Maynard

his finish for the offside goal was different class. I thought he looked dangerous, but he had a couple of other half chances that he spurned badly. I guess it depends on how much Bristol City want for him. We need some pace up front as a different option. Connelly is not a match winner from the bench.

I wouldn't sign anyone from Bristol City going by tonight because lets be honest... They were sh*t.

they weren't **** tbf. totally deserved the win.

Maynard was decent, loads and loads of pace as you could see, but we did manage him quite well defensively.

His shooting was poor first half, great finish for the disallowed goal and missed a sitter for their goal (but great save by KD but shouldnt have had a chance) before it rebounded to Pearson. Didnt look like a player quoted at 5m tbh. We need pace upfront for sure though.

No way in hell but their number 27 was rather good. Can't pronounce his name but if you could turn that chap into a striker he would be rather good. quick feet, pace and well a nice eye for a cross.

that was mr adomah, we really should have snapped him up when he was at Barnet.

Bristol were NOT better than us. They won - but it was smash and grab in every sense of the word. Other than the goal and the offside goal they didn't pose a huge threat and even though we were off form we created the better chances.

Adomah and Maynard would do well for us - unfortunately we won't sign either.

We were playing chase-ball from the first minute. They were better than us. Defensively and Offensively. James hardly had anything to do

We were in the first half - not in the second. As for James having nothing to do - were you in the toilet when he saved a Morgan screamer, at the feet of Steve when clean through and then from Lambert on the volley?

They were most definitely NOT better than us.

They were better than us. Ok he made a few saves and the one from Morgan was a good save. but Davis made one from Adomah in the first half too. On paper we should have won, but they played better than us and won. #FACT

they had the more clear cut chances, but we were the more dominant side.

Back to thread, who on Solent said we are not interested? Having said that, have we ever been interested? Lots of rumours but nothing remotely concrete to link us unlike Sharp in the summer.

agreed about Adomah, his pace is scary. SDR has some pace but just doesn't look up and his final ball is very poor

So was Adomah's in the main thought they look much of a much both SDR and Adomah have pace and skill to get in dangerous postions both didn't put enough quaility balls at at the end of it

After the game there was an pre game interview with NA talking about 2011 in general.Just before the interview they said "sources" from the club confimed we were not interested in Maynard and one other player (the other I cant recall.) NA never talked about this. He did say that "purchases would only be made if the player is better than we have.....

As noted above, Adomah was the eye-catcher. I'd offer silly money for him, and I mean really silly. So silly they would have to sell.

As for Bristol City - very physical, a bit too much, I didn't appreciate the constant clambering over Lambert and Guly ... but as someone said above they had a game plan to stifle us and hit us on the break, and it was a sucker punch. We huffed and puffed, but created few clear cut chances. Once they got the goal, I knew that was the only goal to be scored. Smash and grab, yes. We were mugged, but we could see it coming!

Really? How good was his first touch? Not great. Did he look an intellegent striker, one to come of the line and play out wide, we dont play a stlye that gets us in behind so a player who plays on the shoulder of the last man is no good, especially at home where most teams defend deep. He is a good finisher but his all round game isn't suited to our style. It's a no from me, unless we are going to change out patient passing game to accomdate him.

TBH, we never got enough bodies in the box to trouble them- we were always outnumbered. Think of De Ridder's chance in the first where he got behind them, looked up and waited and could only see Guly surrounded by a sea of yellow. Tonight was made for one of the CMs to get forward and provide more options. Contrast this with one of Bristol's best chances in which the midfielder ran from deep to collect the ball. As it was, we were hitting crosses from here, there and everywhere and it would have needed a worldie to bypass their superior numbers in the box. Hard to fault SDR solely for that.

Maynard will leave in January, they'll want to get a few mil for him now rather than keep him on unhappy and lose him for free in the summer. They're not going to do anything this season and can use the money to rebuild.

I was thinking that Adomah would be a quality striker - imagine him in a 4-3-3 with Rickie and Adam up front...that would be quality.

I liked the look of him, has rapid pace and always looked to get in behind the defence.

Rumours about Sharp are that he has a 1.85mil release clause activated on Jan 1st.. so I think it will be a case of who does he want to go to!

The release clause is 3m though, not 1.85m - their chairman has confirmed that. He'll go to Leicester imo, we're not going back for him. I reckon we'll see this Trotta guy come in on a short term loan instead.

I wasn't that impressed with Maynard, but perhaps that was the performance of someone who knows they're not going to be at the club much longer.

Far more impressed with Adomah; it seemed that the ball was attached to his right foot the entire match, we couldn't get near him!!

It was always going to be a one-goal match last night, and I have to say that we had no lucky breaks/bounces all night, whereas the ball went straight to their players not once but twice for their goal.

We should be a bit more ambitious than signing him. He didn't impress much last night. We're top at the halfway stage, so should cast an eye towards signing a striker who would help us get to the Premiership and shine there. Considering the financial returns for being there, we ought to make an investment of some of that Chamberlain money to help ensure our automatic promotion.
