alpine_saint Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 There, just to prove my point, you did it again. F**king read all the comments and draw your own conclusions then, FFS.
S-Clarke Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Umm, I don't think anyone has said ''transfers HAVE to be made at the end of the month'. It's just that the more educated posters who understand how football works, realise that it's not a case of saying ''I want that player'' and getting him, especailly when you are looking for specifics in our case. Deals are complex and can be drawn out, you are neive and show a lack of football knowledge if you think otherwise. I'm not saying I want us to wait till the deadline, because I don't. I'd love to see us get a player or 2 in by mid month. Your point is flawed anyway as we have been in negotiations for the past month with the guy from Japan. That kills your point dead really. CanadaSaint Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 F**king read all the comments and draw your own conclusions then, FFS. I did. That's why I made the observation, but it's there to be made on virtually every thread you enter, which is most of them on here. You seem to be losing your cool so I guess that one hit home, even if you won't admit it.
S-Clarke Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Why hasnt he signed then ? Because signing a player from Asia is quite complex. I don't expect you to understand that though. In fact you don't really understand much football-wise. Clearly. give it up.

So you clearly werent interested in my explanation.

15saints Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I really don’t understand why everyone gives this guy any credence. He has obviously never played football, he doesn’t watch games every week and gives the impression of being a poopey fan. He works on the premise that if he says someone is going to die he will be right one day. He stated “Very bored with hearing about this, seeing its being top at the END of the season that counts, a fact that seems to be over the head of a lot of contributors on here, and especially when considering our relegation form over the past 6 or 7 games”. This is incorrect on a number of counts, but more relevant is the point he is bored of hearing that we are top of the league (how can any true saints fan be bored of hearing about them being top of the league?). Our recent form indicates that we are in a difficult league, but has still kept the pack behind us. Any mention of relegation when speaking of saints at the moment is plain idiocy, and it should also be pointed out that the pre-season favorites for promotion are still three points behind us. I have to agree that being top, or second, at the end of the season is important, but not more important than the next game. (Unfortunately I cannot attend due to other commitment). At five o’clock today the focus moves to the next game and so on, as watching your team play, or supporting if you are unable to be there, is more important than who they play as has been proven by many thousands of fans who supported us at our lowest ebb. It didn’t matter what league we were in we still turned out in our thousands to support our team and loved it because we were winning more than we lost. The predictors among us must be in turmoil as few would have predicted us being top at the turn of the year before the season started. It must also be difficult or embarrassing for those who predicted us to finish below half way etc, but these people do not embarrass easily and still maintain their ridiculous stance. This nonsense about signing someone on the first day of the transfer window also shows a lack of insight to what really happens in football. The majority of those early signings are loans and as far as I can remember we don’t want loans unless they are likely to lead to a permanent move. It does appear that we have signed this Japanese guy, which would also disprove some of his statements about lack of work in the background, but we shouldn’t need to keep disproving these ludicrous statements, which are always very negative and show little belief in our club. So come on Alpine and your like, let us show a little more faith in those who have been blessed in taking care of our great club and if you must come out with a rubbish statement make it a nice one, which we could laugh at rather than our current mood with the doubters. COYR Where did I say we would be relegated ? I said our form over the past 6 or 7 games is relegation form. And it is. And yes, I am bored of hearing about us being top of the league. I am more interested in talking about what we are going to do to ensure we are there in May. That's what counts. I would rather we'd skulked around the top 6 until New Year then sneaked up like we did last season, than be top for 3 months then fade away.. And sorry, I still dont get why negotiations cannot be drawn to successful conclusions before the transfer window opens, if the targets are identified. Everything else strikes me as b*ggering about. This "end of the month" stuff sounds more like the targets havent been properly identified.
Dalek2003 Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 The trouble with leaving signings to the end of the month are: a. It leaves little time to negotiate and therefore we lose our target because we run out of time. b. It gives less time for the target to settle in (if in the summer). c. The 'best' players are snapped up by more decisive teams. d. It can cost us more as we become desperate and the selling club knows this (esp in Jan if the selling club is comfortable. Also, I think it is better to have the squad in place before the season start to cover injury and fatigue.
RobM Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 You've listed the negatives of starting negotiations at the end of the month, not making signings at the end of the month. The two are not necessarily the same. The club has already said they are working hard behind the scenes, so I don't see where the confusion about that comes from? NickG Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 FACT - we have progressed in every transfer window since Cortese came in. FACT - summer 2010 gave us a side to challenge for promotion. FACT - January 2011 gave us a side to finish the job. FACT - summer window gave us a side that has shocked the championship and took us to the January window at top of the league. FACT - Adkins has already said he has been busy working on a few improvements to the squad. FACT - the transfer window is only just ajar. Not sure of the facts, but guess something like 90% of transfers will be in last two days, and less than 1% in what has passed so far. FACT - Alpine is discussing that Adkins maybe worth sacking if we don't get into play offs. FACT - Alpine has said Adkins and Cortese are not trying and allowing the club to free wheel. Pretty safe to say these two as facts; Alpine is attention seeking and not very bright/ knowledgeable about football/saints.
