if we finish 7th should Nigel be sacked for "****ing it up"?

That's a toughie. If it is because NC didnt support getting in the players needed, then clearly the answer is no.

If its because he failed to identify what he needed, or got what he needed but the team choked, then there is a case to be made.

TBH I haven't seen anyone say that we do not need reinforcements !

The argument against Alpine is that he reckons that nothing is happening behind the scenes and now that we have reached the 2nd of January it's already a bleeding disaster !

What proof do you have that any significant ground work has been done ? None, I suspect.

The transfer window officially opens for business this week too, and Adkins explained that progress is being made as he looks to strengthen his side.

"We have been working hard behind the scenes.

"It is going to be a long month and I think a lot of business gets done at the end of the month.

"We are going to get loads of speculation with plenty of names linked to us, we have been doing our work and we will continue to see if we can improve the group that we have got by adding one or two extra ones to it."

OK Alps?

I think those of you being abusive are the foolish ones. Other teams have already signed players.

A window from 01.01 - 31.01 means exactly that. Not 24.01 - 31.01.

We could have had one player in by the weekend game if we really had wanted to.

The window is for transfers not for negotiations.

Alpine you are a lunatic. You know NOTHING about football as has been made evidently clear over the years now. You always go off the rails after a defeat, it's like ground hog day on here sometimes.

No New Year's resolution for you then, Alps. ;)

I must be imagining Blackpool signing Danny Wilson from Liverpool already then....

Stop trying to justify yourself Alpine, you look an idiot from that comment and you're making yourself look even more stupid if that's possible.

I dont need to justify myself. The fact is the other teams in this league have already started addressing their issues whereas we have clearly established weaknesses and are going to ponce around about sorting them out, as we always do.

Clearly Brighton have more weaknesses and holes than anyone else. I am stunned by the amount of players they have signed so far.

Seriously, the sort of posts you're making should be made on the 1st Feb after the window has closed. You are pre judging what will happen. If we haven't signed anyone by then or you don't think we've got the right players then fine, but give them more than a day of the window to make their move...

Well, I dont want to wait another month of crap form to discuss this, to be honest. Do you think our promotion campaign can afford another month of mediocrity ?

After today there isn't another league game until 14th jan. I'd hope Adkins would have spent yesterday preparing for today, not worried about transfers. We then have a nice little day break from the league which seems like a better time to be trying to bring in players and letting them settle in before the Forest game. If you engaged your brain, you may have been able to see that as well rather than rushing to post just one day after the window has opened...

I agree with Alpine. There is a worrying lack of urgency. This equates to drift and complacency that will utlitimately lead to a midtable mediocre finish.

Mind you, I'm not surprised, the pattern was set last summer.

How will you feel if no-one has come in in advance of the game on the 14th, especially if we dont win today ??

Brighton are in disarray. Are we ?? I thought everything was hunky-dory down SMS...

Get a grip Alpine, nobody is unaware of the fact that we are having a difficult spell, but to suggest that NC and NA are sitting on their @rses finishing the last of the mince pies is ridiculous !

These guys have guided us to the top of the league and will do everything possible to stay there (do you honestly believe that they either don't care or are just plain useless ?)!

And no, I cannot prove that they are working their b@lls off but plain common sense suggests that this is the case !!

We have never approached the transfer market with any urgency. Under Lowe there was always the suspicion that he was simply being a tight-fisted clever d*ck.

Dont understand the reasoning now though. Are we broke ?

The point is, why are you telling us what other clubs are doing when they are signing kids on loan which is an easy deal to conclude quickly. Do you want us to sign quality or just sign players for the sake of it?

Football isn't as simple as waving a magic wand, signing a couple of players on 1st of Jan and then start winning again immediately.

It makes you wonder. This begs the question of the commitment of the Liebherr's. I hope they are still with us for the long run, because if they are we will be even without promotion. Without them we could be in for a much more uncertain future.

THAT IS EXACTLY MY POINT. If we leave it to the end of the month, by the time those hard-fought for players have integrated, it will be the end of February and our promotion campaign will be a dim and distant memory.

Have you ever noticed that if your outlook or opinion flies in the face of the cosy consensus on here, you get told to support someone else, like having a different opinion makes you an inferior, unworthy or dishonest supporter ?

Well, it comes as no surprise that supporters have blind faith in their team, but to ignore certain realities is stupid.

We have had a cracking start to the season, better than i thought we would, but, I said back in August that the squad was too lightweight for the whole season. I can't see what is wrong with that idea.

Also, on the transfer issue. I live in Norwich in which my local team have been very canny and very decisive in the transfer market. This seems to have worked and seems the opposite to Saints, yet the clubs are very similar in profile.

Listen to any manager and they will tell you that January is the hardest month to do business. If you want to sign top QUALITY, clubs are reluctant to let players go, fee's are OTT and players themselves don't want to uproot half way through a season.

Sticking the boot in to NC and NA from your ivory tower in Austria on 2nd January is just bizarre.

According to our fans, doing everything ball-achingly slowly and complex is the right way forward.

Right, then we f*cked up royally back in August as Dalek claims then.

Just taking the striker issue, Connolly was already a known risk and Barnard already had legal issues hanging over him.

Not really, no one has more points than us and no one has scored more goals. Their faith in the squad until now has been repaid. Complain all you want come 1st Feb but there is nothing to suggest that they won't be working hard to bring in a couple of players in this window. The fact that we've been working on the signing of the Japanese striker for some time disproves your point anyway.

Alpine, serious question: Why do you continually misrepresent what others are saying in your attempts to make your own point? You do it all the time. If your point can't stand on its own merits without that kind of nonsense, perhaps you don't really have one.

I dont think I am mis-representing it. I have made the perfectly valid argument that the negotiations could have taken place weeks ago so that a signing was announced this week. Only two other posters have said something similar today. According to all the abuse I have received, thats the not the way to do it, transfers have to be made at the end of the month (after another 3 or 4 games have gone). It seems most of our fans accept that transfer activity has to be complex and drawn-out.
