So who will be leaving?

NA suggested some fringe players would be moving on next month - who?

I really don't know, depends on exactly how many players we need to help out the development squad, what our projects are for the cup etc etc.

I think we're more likely to see some of the young talent going out on longer loans than we are of seeing some of the senior fringe players leaving the club defintively.Forte seems to be capturing sme sort of interest, can't see many of the others moving on unless we're buying position for position replacements in January.2 in 1 out would be my take on the senior players.

How would I know that?...I just have a hunch. Just because he signed a new contract doesnt mean he wont be sold.

If you were a buying club would you sign someone who had just signed a new deal, was injured for 2 months and awaiting trial for a crime for which he could be sent down for??

who is going to buy an injured striker with a court case coming up...?

This is the second time tonight we have responded to a post with exactly the same points within seconds of each other. Brilliant minds Jamie.

I don't understand people's mentality around Barnard saying he can't step up, he has hardly had a chance to.

They were right when they said Rickie Lambert couldn't step up, they'll be right about Barnard too. We're lucky to have so many oracles in one place.

Hang on...;)

Thank goodness you don't run our club, that would leave us with no defensive cover at all and Forecast as our reserve 'keeper!

That could be a good call and worth adding a million or two to JP's nominal value.

The really interesting thing about this window is not so much whether certain players are good enough for the Championship (Puncheon, Barnard, Holmes, Harding etc.) - they probably are; but whether they're good enough for the (more than probable, if the bookies are to be believed) harder challenges ahead in the Premiership. Maybe the summer will bring a harsher clear out than this window, but players who have done really good jobs for us to get us this far might not be up to Prem football (discuss!) - the likes of Fox, Fonte, Do Prado and Hammond for instance. Personally the only ones I would see being likely successes at that level would be Davis, Lallana, Richardson, Jos, Cork, Morgan (in time) and Lambert (probably!).

Turkish did a very well-reasoned evaluation of the entire squad (on another thread) recently, and came to the conclusion that about 14 players in the present set-up were probably OK for Prem. level - taking account of obvious retirement (Jaidi) and OOC players like Butterfield and Connolly..+ a few more...

I agreed with all of his selections - (and although we aren't the Oracle on such things) ..it still left EIGHT uncertainties that must be resolved before next season - on the assumption that we go up... that means quite a change of personnel. Hope he can trace it and re-run it . Very Interesting.

If both Martin and Seaborne leave on loan, who's going to cover for Jos and Jose?

Martin has been told he's going nowhere. My mate down the pub told me.

Down the pub ! must be true then. Apparently Moses got the 10 commandments from a bloke down the Burning Bush public house.

Martin being the first choice to cover Fonte tonight would suggest that mate down the pub is worth listening to!

I watched Lambert closely on Saturday and felt he didn't really put in a big shift, almost as if he wanted to avoid injury and thoughts were elsewhere. Perhaps Newcastle. Really hope not, but just a nagging worry. This is a hugely important window for us. Think we looked very thin.

Interesting you say that. I've watched Lambert closely all season and felt he's really put in a shift and loves being here and is more commited than anyone else.

They can keep looking at him if they want, as long as they don't touch.

Wouldn't sell him for any price, we're toothless without him.

Yes but if we get £4 million offer I am sure we will sell and replace him with our £500,000 acquisition plus the cahp from Coventry for £1million.

Good business.

Players I'd like to get rid of:

Forte

Dickson

Puncheon

Holmes

Jaidi

Connolly

Forecast

The last 3 wont be going anywhere and probably not Holmes either. Hopefully we can get something final for Puncheon. I'm getting pretty bored with players like him and Forecast sticking around and spending the whole season out on loan to 2 different clubs.

Seriously re: Connolly? That's mental.

why do you want to get rid of him? surely what we saw in the first few months of the season demonstrated why we did well to get him to sign last year.

He started the season brightly, 4 in the first 5 games I think it was, but he has done b*gger all else since August. 1 goal since then, a relatively simple finish from that move of the centuary against Boro. He's not quick, he's not strong or good in the air and the last couple of games I saw him in he gave the ball away a lot.

As for "doing well getting him to sign last year" I doubt he was beating away offers from Premier League clubs. Offered the choice of Connolly or someone 10 years younger with a bit of height or pace, I'd go for the latter.
