Chez Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Is there anything to suggest we couldn't afford those things? Pretty bleak if we had to sell just to finance those deals. Don't know what to think about our financial situation, some still seem convinced we have loads of funds and just choose not to spent big.I have no idea, but we lost £7m in the first season, and maybe (someone will be able to tell us) a similar sum in the second year so we have relied on the owners to find that overspending. The AOC fee will have gone a long way to cover those two seasons of losses. I don't think there are huge huge sums available, certainly not £5m, but there will be some money. Matthew Le God Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 (edited) don't we all, but without his transfer fee would we have been able to afford Cork, Jos, Chaplow and Fox not to mention the new big contracts for Fonte, Lambert etc.? - Chaplow was signed permanently in December 2010. - Cork signed in early July 2011. - Bid of £3.25m for Billy Sharp in summer (confirmed by Adkins and S****horpe). - New deals for Lallana, Adkins, Barnard, Lambert and a few others. All before Chamberlain left in August 2011. You need to re-read the accounts. In 2009/10 Liebherr's put £20.4m into the club in the first season in League One. The debt figure you seem to be using includes this, despite not knowing how or even if it has to be repaid. hypochondriac Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 What do you mean? You seem to be saying that the debt from markus should be ignored. We can't count the debt as definite but equally we can't dismiss it.

Without question our outgoings exceed our income, so the sale of AOC will have helped to balance the books. Whether we really needed that money or not (ie. the Liebherr loans need to be repaid) has yet to be disclosed, but our accounts will look a damn sight better with the sale. I'm also inclined to believe the sale was agreed long before it was announced, providing ample confidence that funds would be available to make all those signings/contract improvements during the summer. supersonic Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 who cares if West Ham sign him? They have enough ****e strikers (hence having 5 on the bench on saturday) I'd rather have 1 goal scorer like us than have 7 strikers who score not a lot between them
Crazy Diamond Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 They've also bid £900,000 for a non-league striker today. The man in question is Jamie Vardy of Fleetwood Town, and they reckon they're expecting a £1m+ bid, which they say they will turn down. They definitely want a striker and are willing to pay stupid money for one...

You'd think any half decent management setup would be able to get all his strikers together (Carlton Cole, John Carew, Sam Baldock, Freddie Sears, Piquieonne, Robert Hall...) and get some goals out of those. It's pretty stupid that they're even targeting a new striker. Look at this article on their OS too....they seem totally comfortable about advertising all of their activity. http://www.whufc.com/articles/20111231/transfer-window-update_2236884_2561946

Sam has made no secret of the fact he expects to get the sack if he cant get them promoted in 2 seasons. They consider themselves a big fish and think players everywhere will be falling over themselves to join them. Wether Sam will select them if they go there is another matter however. I would look at the goals they have conceeded lately before going out and getting attacking players if I was fat Sam.
Crazy Diamond Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 There could be some good to come of this potential Vardy transfer though. Halifax have a 30% sell on clause - imagine what £300,000+ can do for a non-league club!
