I remember Lowe's (perfectly reasonable but not especially diplomatic) comments after it fell through when Bierhoff wanted £35k a week: "Oliver has to realise we are not Manchester United and he is not 27 anymore"

If my memory serves me right we had Drogba at st marys talking over a move too, fell through due to high wage demands i think

I thought it fell through because Lowe thought Drogba had an attitude problem. Still we had Brett Ormerod so no worries.

What amazed me most about Lowe appointing wigley was the fact he clearly hadn't learnt from the stuart gray fiasco.

Been thinking back to the lowe days reading this thread and it reminds me of how lucky we are with our owners / chairman now,i haven't felt this good being a saint since the Lawrie days.

Going back some, but I was thinking the other day about some of the players we've turned down....Gazza for example; just imagine him and Le Tiss as 2 attacking midfielders behind one Alan Shearer. But then as I pointed out to a Blackburn fan friend of mine the other day; It all really boils down to how the manager can utilise them a-la Branfoot struggling at the bottom of the premiership with the bases of a team that won the league. :s
