thorpie the sinner Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Signed til 2015, we must be going places!!
St.Patrik Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Hell yeah - thats really good news - now lets get that striker in that we so badly need.
Lighthouse Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 No complaints about that. Congrats Jose.
thorpie the sinner Posted 29 December, 2011 Author Posted 29 December, 2011 Like the fact there is no messing about, shows the clubs and players serious intent for the future!
St.Patrik Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 And no rumours about it either - no ITK claimed this would happen. So whoever we might Sign in Jan - It will be an interesting time now once the window opens.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 And no rumours about it either - no ITK claimed this would happen. 8 days ago... http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/110153-Fonté-about-to-sign-new-deal.
NickG Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Hell yeah - thats really good news - now lets get that striker in that we so badly need. Badly need?! Top scores, top of table - hate to think how badly the other teams must need one!
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Badly need?! Top scores, top of table - hate to think how badly the other teams must need one! yes we do...to stay there
St.Patrik Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Just in case our star Lambert gets injured - Connolly are not 100% yet I guess?
St.Patrik Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Must admit - Ive never seen that site before : /
Window Cleaner Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Badly need?! Top scores, top of table - hate to think how badly the other teams must need one! Strikers are important but the creators that make them score....that's what we have that the others don't. Anyone who thinks that Mr New Striker will take the place of either Rickie or Guly on anything other than an occasional or part time basis is deluded. That's why we need someone with a bit more to him than sticking easy ones into the net, we have the players to do that already, they don't get injured often and they don't like being dropped or even subbed.
ThreeSixty Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Read it as Forte when it first popped on twitter. Glad for Fonte though, stepped it up lately after looking abit shakey earlier in the season.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Great news indeed - let's hope it's the first in a short but extremely sweet list of signings between now and the end of Jan. 2012.
Benali Saint Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Great news. Lets hope we can follow it up with a few signings
SuperSAINT Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Excellent news. Is that everyone signed up now?
trousers Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Re-signing a Championship / League One defender when we're on the cusp of Premier League and Champions League stardom? Where's the ambition FFS? (This was a statement by the Bad-attempt-at-parodying-certain-forum-members Party)
Chez Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 with Pardew's talk of the need for a CB this puts any links to Fonte to bed.
Chez Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Excellent news. Is that everyone signed up now?Morgan not signed a contract as far as I recall.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Morgan not signed a contract as far as I recall. Schneiderlin signed a new contract in August... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2426115,00.html
Colinjb Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 with Pardew's talk of the need for a CB this puts any links to Fonte to bed. Or at the very least raised his price significantly.
St Chalet Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Cracking news. Saints retain key talent of Lambert, Lallana, Fonte, Hooiveld, Schneiderlin and Cork. Add in the decent length deals for Chaplow, Hammond, Harding and Barnard and we have a really stable squad for next 2-3 years.
SNSUN Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Good news. Everyone's on the bus, but we have three empty seats.
Seany S Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Fonte drove past me this morning - on Paynes Road just past Clarence Hardware in Shirley. He was driving a sporty black thing - may have been a Maserati - and the license plate says F8NTE. Second time I have seen him when driving, I am approaching stalker-like levels here :/
um pahars Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Just as when Lallana signed a new contract, news like this is as warming as a new signing!!!! That said, I'm still hoping for a few new faces being brought in during the January transfer window.

Saint_clark Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2560081,00.html José Fonte has given Saints some early New Year cheer by signing a new long term deal with the club. The Portuguese centre back has been a key figure in the team's rise out of League One to the top of the Championship, and has now extended his stay at St. Mary's until 2015 following on from a number of other key players who agreed new terms in the summer. Fonte joined the club two years ago from Crystal Palace and settled quickly into life at Saints, establishing himself at the heart of the defence which reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final where he turned out at Wembley just three months after his arrival at the club. Consistency has been they key word with his performances. In last season's promotion winning campaign he played 48 times and notched seven goals, including a dramatic last minute strike to earn a 2-1 success at Brighton. José made the step back into the Championship this season, and has been one of the first names on the team sheet as the team has risen to the top of the table. He has been an ever present in the league so far this season, partnering each of Aaron Martin, Dan Seaborne and latterly, Jos Hooiveld with whom he has struck up a solid understanding with in the heart of defence. Executive Chairman Nicola Cortese has moved to tie the defender down to a new deal before he entered the final year of his contract, which was due to expire at the end of next season.
the wedge Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 "It was a very easy decision and I am extremely happy to have signed," Fonte told BBC Radio Solent. "This is the only place I want to be and is one of the happiest days of my life." "The chairman is doing a great job, the manager is doing a great job and all the staff are doing a great job. We are having a great season and this is the place to be," he added. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16354197.stm Absolutely thrilled.
SNSUN Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 With Hooiveld signing permanently, we definitely have the centre backs we need in place for this season. Fonte and Jos are going from strength to strength, and with Martin as a back up, and not forgetting Seaborne when he's fit and even Harlee Dean (who's been getting rave reports on loan), we're quite strong in this department. If we go up? Yes, sign a new CB in the summer, but I'm very pleased with what we have. It aLso seems that Jos and Jose like playing with each other too, which is inmportant.
Raging Bull Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 It's an audi R8 Followed it out of town once or twice.... Tiz true also has a white Audi Q5. Followed that one myself.
sussexsaint Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 "This is the only place I want to be and is one of the happiest days of my life." Absolute quality - can't express how happy I am being a Saints fan at the moment when solid players come out with quotes like this. My Crystal Palace mate is still gutted about Fonte leaving always considered him Prem quality
RobM Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Great news for many reasons. It shows our best players want to be here long-term, it shows the club is looking to the future, it shows us impatient fans that things really do happen behind the scenes (not all deals are done in the press!), assuming this new deal was at a better wage it shows we're sound financially and it shows that NC and NA are doing what's best for the club now and in the future. Good times.
dronskisaint Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Fantastic news - real statement of intent and vote of confidence, loyalty and belief for all the players who have been signed on to long contracts - happy to be a Saints fan and how!!
Badger Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Timing of this is a remarkable coincidence as Pardew has today said he is likely to be in the market for a defender.
Colinjb Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Great news for many reasons. Good times. The only worry for me. I know i'll get shot for saying this but without progress the contracts we must be offering, even with our crowds, will be unsustainable.
SuperSAINT Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 "At the moment we are doing very well so we want to take this opportunity right now, but we have plans and the Chairman has his ideas on the future of this club, and we all just want to be a part of it."
RobM Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 The only worry for me. I know i'll get shot for saying this but without progress the contracts we must be offering, even with our crowds, will be unsustainable. I hope you don't get shot as it's a very reasonable concern. Let's hope that this isn't a risk, but a sign that we will back our own chances of success and invest to make that happen. It starts with getting the foundations in place (all key players signed up) and hopefully continues with strengthening the first team to help us progress. Or, perhaps, my half-full glass is now overflowing...
Turkish Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Got to laugh at yet more gushing praise of our chairman. It seems no one can help but mention what a great job he is doing when a press release is made on the OS.
Dig Dig Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Got to give a big mention to NC. Press releases like these really show what an outstanding job he is doing
suntouched Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 Got to laugh at yet more gushing praise of our chairman. It seems no one can help but mention what a great job he is doing when a press release is made on the OS. You have to wonder why the Manager doesn't get mentioned as the one involved in the deal. Anyone would think the clubs's media dept have to mention NC in all the major releases to help massage the massive ego..........Just a thought......
VectisSaint Posted 29 December, 2011 Posted 29 December, 2011 The only worry for me. I know i'll get shot for saying this but without progress the contracts we must be offering, even with our crowds, will be unsustainable. Not sure why. Surely the contract would be such that it provides different remuneration depending on where we are. Much like Lowe (spit) inserted a clause in most players contracts to reduce pay if we were relegated, so would NC if we are promoted. It really is not difficult to budget based on various outcomes.
