The Majestic Channon Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 I picked up the band of brothers box set for a bargain 12 quid recently, just finished watching and was even better than i remember when it was first shown on tv, recieved the pacific box set for xmas , never seen it , how does it compare to band of brothers? Really looking forward to watching just hope it's as good.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 Watched both - very similar genres obviously. Hard to pick the best. Band of Brothers probably edges it, but you will be absorbed by the Pacific if you enjoyed Band of Brothers. Both epic.
petermcpete Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 I've watched both and personally thought Band of Brothers was a cut above....the characters in the Pacific weren't as engaging imo. Still well worth watching though.
Thedelldays Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 bob easily...probably because we can relate to the characters in a way...IE. closer to home etc
View From The Top Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 BOB is simply the greatest series ever made. Ever.
Block 18 Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 As has been said above both are brilliant, I did however have a bit more empathy with Band of Brothers above Pacific purely because you got the interviews with the real men after each disc and were able to relate more to them than the guys from Pacific. That said the reason was because most of the real Marines from Pacific has died prior to the films making. Both box sets are played in this house on an annual basis, brilliant film making and a great insite into the desperate hardships of war.
Suhari Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 Pacific is very poor compared to BoB: very disappointed viewing. I felt no affinity at all to the characters in Pacific - didn't care a hoot about them in fact. BoB is simply amazing.....
SuperMikey Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 Band of Brothers is fantastic, much better than The Pacific.
niceandfriendly Posted 29 December, 2011 Share Posted 29 December, 2011 Agree with all said here. Band of Brothers is wonderful, clearly the better of the two. The Pacific is well made obviously but just nowhere near as good. Hardly felt any affinity with the main characters like I did in BoB. Only just finished watching Band of Brothers for the second time recently and I had forgotten how magic of a series it is.
SuperMikey Posted 29 December, 2011 Share Posted 29 December, 2011 There's such a huge gulf in the empathy you feel for the characters in both series' - when Muck and Pinkala were killed off in BoB in Bastogne, it really tugged at your heartstrings. When John Seda's character was killed off in The Pacific, it came nowhere close, even though he was a main character and you were meant to see this all through his eyes, unlike Muck and Pinkala who were really just auxiliary characters in the series.
