Arizona Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Tough opposition today. Saints haave failed to win in six attempts since relegation. Last season's fixture resulted in one of our 5 - something thrashings. 5-1 with a goal from Saga/o.g. The last meeting was at SMS with 90 minutes of dire football followed by an injury time sucker punch. Mean looking opponent... Team News: Pulis still injured, Gasmi apparently not fit enough for first team action yet, Lallana out with ankle injury, Surman faces late test, Skacel has a slight hamstring injury, but should play. Svensson played 45mins behind closed doors but isn't ready. Perry, Mills and Pekhart apparently have an illness, although Perry is training. Robertson may feature, as might Pearce. I'd pick: Davis Cork - Pearce - Perry - Mills Gillett - MS - Surman -Skacel Robertson - DMG
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 No idea who will play but like most of the games we play now, i am dreading it as i have very little confidence that the system we play will win many games. I hope i am wrong.
Mr X Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 heart = A battling draw head = another three nil defeat at least
saintjay77 Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 not sure who I would go for. Would be nice if the same team that started against Cov IMO as apart from some kamakazi defending I thought they did pretty well. These injurys donthelp though. -----------KD------------- James--Olly--Perry--Skacel ------Morgan--Surman---- Thomson------------Smith ---------Euell------------- ----------Robertson------- Left wing is the dodgy position for me, dont think Mills is good enough there so maybe swap him with Skacel and drop Smith.
Saint Garrett Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Ill go for a draw i think Cork Pearce Lancashire Skacel ------Gillet--Morgan---------- Smith----Euell-----Surman/Mills/DMG ---------Robertson-----------
davefoggy Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 but JP says we are gonna thrash someone soon........
Arizona Posted 1 November, 2008 Author Posted 1 November, 2008 but JP says we are gonna thrash someone soon........ Jan also said he was aiming for 6 wins from 10 games, which is now 6 from 7 I think.
Mr X Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 but JP says we are gonna thrash someone soon........ we are, just not in this division
VectisSaint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 I'd pick: Davis Cork - Pearce - Perry - Mills Gillett - MS - Surman -Skacel Robertson - DMG Would be surprised if Euell was dropped, but then again nothing surprises me with team selections at present. I suspect team is more likely to be Davis, Cork, Lancashire (or Pearce), Perry, Skacel, Spiderman, Gillett, Surman, Davis, Euell, McG (though personally I would play Wotton instead of Gillett, sadly that puts the average age of the team too high and so unlikely to be sanctioned )
davefoggy Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 we are, just not in this division please dont joke

It's There Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Gentlemen...after last year..surely the result can't be worse in terms of goals against! I, for one, would be more than happy with a goalless first half...please don't concede quickly...then I think confidence will begin to grow. I don't expect it to be pretty, but a point or 3 is achievable with a little luck. COYR
St Marco Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Lets hope those with an illness feel a little better today and can play because if not i feel another 5-1 type game on the cards. Today is a must win game for me. We have the potential to either be on the same points as Barnsley and maybe get out on goal difference or we could go to 5 points adrift. Big big game where we have to win. If we lose and results go against us and we are 5 points adrift going into 3 tough games against teams who are 1st,4th and 8th could increase that points gap further which lets pray doesn't happen. Saints must win. It will be a tough game, no games are easy. If Jan has done his job and the players realise what is at stake and put in a display of effort then i think we could snatch it 1-2. I would be very happy with that. 4 points from the last 9 would not be so bad. However if Jan is Jan and plays people in the wrong place and plays a defensive system we will get stuffed something like 5-0. If that happens 1 point from the last 9 and 13 from 45 in total is awful and we cannot go on like that. So it is a game that depends on what Jan does i think. Either we win by a goal or lose by many i think.
dubai_phil Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 I'll go with the Tijuana Tim approach, a big improvement on last year and a sense that we are now moving forwards 3-1 to Preston should cover it
krissyboy31 Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 OS says Mills, Pekhart and Perry haven't travelled because of illness. What happend to the "Killer fit for Preston" story? Obviously not!!
benjii Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 I predict a 4-2-1-2-1 formation, to seamlessly morph into a 4-6-0 formation as required.
Toomer Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 I don't think I care. I do really just hope we are not humiliated.
saintjay77 Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 not sure who I would go for. From the OS squad that has traveled I am going to go for -----------KD------------- Cork--Olly--Pearce--Skacel -------Gillet----Morgan---- Gobern-------------Surman ---------Euell------------- ----------McGoldrick------ Gobern could be swapped with Smith or Thomson but JP likes to blood the youth before the previous youths get settled so it wouldnt surprise me if Gobern gets the nod. No idea on the score but praying for today to be the day we finish a few more of our chances.
saintjay77 Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 OS says Mills, Pekhart and Perry haven't travelled because of illness. What happend to the "Killer fit for Preston" story? Obviously not!! OS say he played in the closed door friendly and wasnt happy with his own fitness so guess he has declared himself not fit. I know we need to treat him with some kid gloves and he will probably make himself work harder than anyone else can but after so many disapointments I think he might need someone above him pushing him to the finish line.
um pahars Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 A battling, backs to the wall draw. 1-1 after taking the lead. Fingers crossed.
Mr X Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 please dont joke We are a joke at the moment so we have to joke about our joke so to speak
SaintRobbie Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 'We're due to thrash someone soon'. JP; Lowe's m(p)uppet I hope we pull something out the bag but... I doubt it VERY much. I feel for the 350 hard core fans... but lads and lasses do us proud and sing the songs loud - especially 'Swing Lowe!'
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 I really can't see us getting anything out of this. From the illness and injuries the already weak defence is creaking even more. No experience there unless Wotton plays, but JP doesn't seem to fancy him as a CB much. Hope Rudi's fit or we are stuffed for LB. I'll be amazed if we score and just hope we keep the number of goals conceded to something respectable.
gjphilsaint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 my prediction league punt was/is 5-1 Preston
Saint Martini Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 OS say he played in the closed door friendly and wasnt happy with his own fitness so guess he has declared himself not fit. I know we need to treat him with some kid gloves and he will probably make himself work harder than anyone else can but after so many disapointments I think he might need someone above him pushing him to the finish line. If only you knew Swedish and you could read the interview with him in the last issue of offside. You'd know that Svensson pushes himself more then anyone and if someone from above needs to push him its a backwards motion and not forward.
VectisSaint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Who?? Sorry, I meant Smith. I preferred it when we had lost of foreigners, it was easier to remember their names
Window Cleaner Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Put them in the right order yourselves Southampton: Davis, Skacel, Surman, Euell, McGoldrick, Schneiderlin, Lancashire, Thomson, Cork, Smith, Pearce. Subs: Wright-Phillips, Wotton, James, Bialkowski, Gillett. OK for me, BWP and Gillett on the bench and we'll see how we are without Lallana. Already a result for me.
NickG Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Davis Cork Lanashire Pearce Skacel Schneiderlin Surman Smith Thomson Euell DMG I reckon
ottery st mary Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Does the coach not want Robertson anymore?
Window Cleaner Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Does the coach not want Robertson anymore? Perhaps he's on appearance money;)
Bromley Saint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Saints: Davis, Cork, Skacel, Lancashire, Pearce, Surman, Schneiderlin, Thomson, Smith, Euell, McGoldrick. Subs: Bialkowski, Wotton, James, Gillett, Wright-Phillips. From OS
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Does the coach not want Robertson anymore? Just more wasted money for a loan
Saint Charlie Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Robertson has been injured and today is slightly too early for him.
Rasiak-9- Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Saints: Davis, Cork, Skacel, Lancashire, Pearce, Surman, Schneiderlin, Thomson, Smith, Euell, McGoldrick. Subs: Bialkowski, Wotton, James, Gillett, Wright-Phillips. From OS Another total fudge-'em-together mish-mash of a back four.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Just more wasted money for a loan Nah not really, he scored against Norwich and they might not have taken Dyer off our hands otherwise. Our side actually looks good today, plenty of experience, no blatant gaps in defence, I expect us to get at least a draw. I like it when Euell is in the side.
ottery st mary Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Perhaps he's on appearance money;) You are so in the know about most things. But in my humble opinion, probably not quite good enough. Although he was worth the punt in someones view. (Not you, I mean Robertson. You will always be good enough in my eyes as your heart is in the right place eventually, I hope.) Lets hope the lads surprise us to-day as whatever happens we want this somehow to turn round. If not I hope you have something up your sleeve before we reach the edge of the cliff. You know you can do it Mikey.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Is there a radio link like last Tuesday and the Tueday before? Works a treat that, should have saved it really.
Bromley Saint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Is it just me, or did Radio Hampshire go quiet during the interview just now? Happened last week as well.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 line up on Sky sports http://live.skysports.com/ScoreCentre/live.html
dannysfc Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Is there a radio link like last Tuesday and the Tueday before? Works a treat that, should have saved it really. I'm listening to BBC Radio Solent but I'm sure there are other links doing it aswell!
NickG Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Another total fudge-'em-together mish-mash of a back four. they are all playing in there best positions. Probably also best for each position available. what's wrong with it? (from current squad)
Saint Martini Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Why isn't SaintsTV working properly? Everytime they have an interview on it goes silent.
Saint_clark Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Why isn't SaintsTV working properly? Everytime they have an interview on it goes silent. F*ck knows. Funny thing is Cope thinking it actually played.
Saint_clark Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 Euell not in the side. James at RB, Cork in midfield. Surman to attacking midfield i'd imagine.
Saint Martini Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 F*ck knows. Funny thing is Cope thinking it actually played. Ah well, I can't listen to JP anyway. I just hate Dutch-English accents. Where's the Matchthread btw?
