Kingsbridge Saint Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 Back from Oz for first game at SMS in 4 years on Boxing Day (travelled up from Plymouth) so maybe have a fresh perspective. I reckon quite a few people were there seeing Saints for the first time in a while, visiting family etc. which might explain why a few think it was quiet? Saints Shop was rammed, which is a pointer. So it was great to win in front of a full house. Thought we looked good all over the park, Cork and Schneiderlin ran the show, but Guly was MoM for me with his two goals, good covering at the back and he was prepared to take the odd risk in possession. Really don't understand why he gets a hard time. Anyone want Jason Euell back? We are Southampton, we're Top of the League. How good did singing that feel!! Anyone else back for a visit want to offer a fresh perspective on the game too?
St Michael Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 It was my first home game since Rochdale last season (have seen TV games and a handful of northern away games since). Fantastic to see a full house and such a convicing performance. Thought Hooiveld was man of the match, Cork also superb. From my position level with goalline in the Itchen, Palace were denied an utterly blatant penalty. That would have made things 'interesting', but apart from that we were more than worthy of the points. Love it.

Matthew Le God Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 Palace were denied an utterly blatant penalty. No it wasn't. It was smacked hard at Richardson from close range, he couldn't move his arm out the way in time if he tried and he wasn't even aware of it coming towards him. That was never a pen, but Fonte jumping all over one of their players in the subsequent scramble may well have been.
positivepete Posted 27 December, 2011 Share Posted 27 December, 2011 Hi KS, sorry I missed you. Glad you had a good time. Should be back to take in a Roar game mid to late January. See you in the Caxton!

It was not close range - there were about five yards in between the player who headed the ball and the handball, and it wasn't struck particularly hard. He moved his hand towards the ball. I had a plum view of it. It should have been a penalty.
