Not the point, the medial ligament obviously wasn't healed sufficiently to withstand any sort of strong strain.

Ligaments are buggers to deal with, they feel OK and you don't feel any reaction until they've gone again.

Which is why many ligament injuries are surgically repaired immediately.

****er. Adkins is going to have to be a little braver and pick de Ridder for the next 5 games even if he is not great in any one of them

Or go back to the team that started the season so brightly -that team picked up more points than the one with Chaplow in.

with Guly wide right? It's a good option, especially if he brings in another striker.

Yep-and Connolly up top until we bring in new additions. Despite his goals, I dont really rate Guly as a striker - his runs off the ball is pretty predictable and is better from a deeper position. While we have problems at RM, the left hand side is less balanced in some ways. While Richardson always provides width -regardless of who is at RM, Lallana and Fox dont gel in the same way. Lallana naturally cuts in a lot and we look less effective when the fullback isnt overlapping. Harding does that; Fox doesn't.

Yeah, from what I've gleaned from taking to a few people today - it's just a tweak, nothing more serious than that - and just another week or 2 added to his recovery.

I'd expect to see him in our home game in the middle of January.

It's certainly not an ACL, so don't start fretting over that.

It has just been reported on SSN that Richard Chaplow will be sidelined for a further few weeks !!! Not what I wanted to hear as I believe he is central to our hopes of pushing for an automatic promotion place

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has revealed that Richard Chaplow will be sidelined for a few weeks due to a knee problem.

Chaplow had been hoping to be fit very soon after returning to full training, but suffered a setback ahead of Friday's home game against Bristol City.

Adkins has now confirmed that the midfielder will not be back in action for some time, and admitted it is a blow to lose such a key man.

Adkins told Saints' official website: "Unfortunately Richard has had a setback in his recovery.

"He was back in full training the other day and looking great guns but he slipped in the turf and opened his knee joints a little bit so that is a bit of a setback, but I'm sure he will come back stronger than ever.

Shame

"He will be out for a few weeks, it's a shame as he was really close and back in training with the rest of the group, but the ground gave way underneath him two days ago and it's a setback for him and us.

"He has worked really hard to get back into contention so it is a shame."

Southampton, who have a three-point advantage at the top of the table, ended a run of three games without a success with a 2-0 home defeat of Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

Widely-travelled striker David Connolly came off the bench to figure in the victory and could be pushing for a start again against Bristol City.
