Needed a win after our recent form. Congrats to Guly on a strong comeback from the Pompey game and De Ridder, who sounded like he put in a blinder.

On to Bristol on Friday.

Happy enough with that. While it would be nice to see a couple of the chasing pack slip up, a good day for Saints fans regardless. 3 more points we don't have to find.

Nice .... and 10 points in the prediction leage ... will it be enouigh to get me back on page 1 of the league table though.

Good proffessional performance and added bonus of a clean sheet and none of the players on 4 yellows got booked.

SDR seemed to have stepped up to the mark and improved his defensive side of the game and of course created the 1st goal.

Guly once again produces the goods at home.

Another round of matches at the top of the table still.

Just to add:

Pompey lost

Leeds lost

Cardiff drew

Boro play Hull later, so at least one of them will drop points. Draw there would be brilliant

Reading play Brighton, so again points will be dropped.

West Ham have a trip to Brum in the late KO

Basically we could well be the only team in the top 10 to win this afternoon. Merry Christmas indeed.

Sounded like Morgan had a cracker as well

Probably doesn't want to play on the right wing any more.He sees himself as a playmaker really, probably the first chance he's had this season in that role.

Just sat in car. Pretty much dominated. First half was all saints.

The whole team were very very good.

Palace came for a point and did very well to keep lambert quiet.

Some of our passing was excellent with cork and Morgan running the midfield. Morgan was my MoM easily

Special shouts to Richardson an de ridder

Guly was frustrating at times but stepped up and got the goals

Great day and a good performance

I just can't understand how Guly keeps scoring.... It sounds and probably is the most ridiculous thing to say....he scored 2 goal..but was ****ing awful!

Thought MS was superb today and Steve DR played well too.

Hopefully can pick up at least 7 from these 3 games though.

I have to admit that I was a bit too smashed to listen to the game properly. What with that and Eric's wife distracting me all the time with offers of naughty favours..........I don't remember hearing of of any heroic saves by Kelvin. Did he have anything to do at all?

Just back, Morgan MOM today, best player on the pitch by a mile. Cork had his best game for a while. Very good first half hour from both sides. Two very good headers from Guly, he put an extra shift at right mid when DeRidder went off.

First (home?) Boxing Day win since 1977

According to Nige

probably about some technical definition of "Boxing Day" though couldn't be sure I'd have to look it up,but I'll let someone else do it for me.

He actually said "in the second tier of English football" so he was technically right, although that's a bit of an obscure stat.

Great response to a recent poor run. Very pleased.

Hopefully Boro and WHam will screw up today and normal service will be resumed.

Our fixture schedule looms like a big black thundercloud though...

Cork and Morgan in the middle ran the show, and De Ridder showed alot more promise from the start and what we've all been wanting to see!

The front two seemed a little flat, but Guly got himself into the right positions twice....and got us 2 goals, so that'll do for me from today.

A pretty bog standard win really. Didn't think Palace offered a great deal, but their RB Clyne was their best player by a mile.

I think we really have to let the cup go this year though.Need to send out a team similar to that that we used against Palarse in the League cup, minus Morgan and Guly . Not sure if we will though.

More like our early season form,I thought the midfield were superb,De Ridder on the whole was excellent and Jos was magnificent. Guly [ a player I really like, but has frustrated the hell out of me,for the last month or more] was in the right place twice to score, despite having a pretty off game. So all in all well pleased.

Love to know what you think are difficult games. Apart from Birmingham (away) there is nothing in Jan/Feb that should really cause us any real concern. West Ham are average at home, better away, Leicester and Cardiff at our place (won 5 away games between them), Forest away (3 home wins), Burnley at home (OK, Clarets have a decent away record), Derby at home (3 wins) and Watford away (4 wins out of 12). Just leaves Brighton away, and they have not even won half of their home games this season. Actually a pretty good set of fixtures, apart maybe from Brum who are unbeaten in their 9 home games. I know it can look reasonable when we are top of the league, but really we should have nothing to fear playing anyone.

I see that Nigel has confirmed ther exactitude of the information that VMAN gave us about Chappers yesterday.

Sorry mate, you lost me. What did I miss?

that Chapper's injured knee had given way in training again and that his return to the side will be set back for another few weeks.

It's in the build up thread somewhere or other.

Coventry away really shouldn't be all that, even for our 'B Team'. If we get through that, maybe we'll get a League 1 side, or another disinterested NpC team at home. Who knows. I'd rest our key players, but you can go quite far in the FA Cup these days just by turning up.

If we rest our first team we've still got Bart, Butters, Martin, Harding, Connolly, Holmes and one from Cork/Dean/Morgan. Even without our injured players that's not a bad start to a team.

2 great crosses saw us through really although we looked very comfortable. Palace had their first shot on about 31 minutes and can't remember Kelvin making a save after that.

Joos and Fonte dealt with anything down the middle and both full backs were well supported by SDR and Lallana to sniff out Zaha and Clyne. If I was a Palace fan I would be a bit ****ed off at managers tactics as they never really had a go.

Morgand and Cork ran the midfield and always available for a pass - only real issue for me was Fox crossing from so deep...Frazer showed him the way...awesome cross.

Guly is deffo marmite - I thought he did Ok today and his 2 goals were both well taken but the crosses were oustanding.

Lallana had no end product again sone great movement and ball control but then no finish.

I don't think Ricky had a shot or header on goal but kept them busy all game with his hold up play and bringing in others.

We still need a good right winger and good, quick forward to push sides deeper - promotion will happen if that happens as not sure we can maintain it with our current squad.

Just waiting for the compulsary weekly "Guly is ****" thread to be started. Can`t understand why it hasn`t.

I hate posts like this. Guly was awful last week and scored two good goals this week whilst still being poor in patches.

Getting two goals this week doesn't make any of his previous poor performances any better, just as playing poor last week doesn't take anything away from the two well taken goals today.

Good win against a decent side! One negative for me today was our support. Completely outsung by the 3K Palace fans, it was embarrasing. About 5 minutes after we went 1-0 up. The ground was deafingly silent, as it took them a few more minutes to get back behind their team. Embarrasing that the loudest song (sung by the most peole at one time ) was STEEEEVE wen SDR got on the ball. Our support although good in numbers, was awful in terms of noise and support for our team, Like we were 2 nil down and bottom, not 2nil up and top. If this is how its going to continue as we progress as a club on the pitch, Id rather be abck in League one with 17k fans turning up to vocally support the team..from today's noise, we do not deserve a team playing as well as ours is at the moment. Please everyone prove me wrong on Friday and sing your ****ing hearts out for the lads! FFS COYR!
