"There was a time when I could have gone to Portsmouth on loan, but I had to say no - my dad's Southampton and I grew up supporting them. Dad would never have spoken to me again.

WE SCUMMERS HAVE STANDARDS YOU KNOW!!!!

Seriously, if Bridgey wants to start playing regularly, what better than a return to his roots?

I know it flies in the face of our age limit..

Also flies in the face of Danny Fox, Dan Harding, and I guess Ryan Dickson and the Academy lads.

Love Wayne Bridge to death and his father is a Southampton nut...

But the whole financial package would not allow for a transfer to Saints....

Unless City paid him off and gave him a free transfer and or took Dickson and Holmes in part exchange.

AND then we got Wayne match fit......he would help us win this league..

Which we are going to win anyway if NA sorts out our team selection...starting with the Palace game...

WIFM

FORGOT TO MENTION..........WOULD HAVE HIM BACK NOW........

Would be a good signing if fit and motivated. Don't really need a left back though so won't happen.

I'd like to think he would be pretty motivated to play for his home town club again, and from the interviews it does sound like he's in good shape. It wont happen though. Slight chance I suppose next summer if we do go up and he's prepared to take a pretty significant wage decrease.

why..?

Silly question when he is one of the best left backs in this country... Chelsea, Man City didn't pay mega bucks for nothing... Can you think of a better one in this division????

Yes his wages at Man City are a problem, but if he is genuinely keen to play, it's worth seeing how keen he is. For us at our stage of rebuilding Wayne Bridge would be a

coup, and no other Championship side would have the pulling power that we have for him....

Bridge would be v useful left midfield. Doesn't hurt to have experience, quality and Southampton supporting added to the squad.

I'd welcome him here so long as he didn't want to be top earner.

WHy wouldn't he be? If any of the others have a problem with it Nige could ask them to show him their England caps and championship medals.

Was a very good player but his spark seems to have gone. To have one mistake sitting on the sidelines like City is excusable, but including Chelsea thats two - 6 or 7 years of not playing and drawing his wages. He should have left Chelsea five years ago and gone to a mid table premiership club, he would have been a big success - but its probably too late for him now to get back what he had.

Did you actually see him trying to perform for West Ham last winter??

Bloke has given up on football.

Not strictly true - yes he did take some time to get back into the first team flow of it with WHU, but that's only to expected when you have been out for so long. I did see him perform for West Ham last season - he won man of the match.

Perhaps football has given up on Wayne Bridge.

I noted in his quotes that he said that his Dad is a Saints fan. He used to say he was and wanted to end his career here, seems to have changed his tune now, no evidence of him still being interested in Saints other than for the sake of upsetting his old man. My old man supported the Skates, I had other ideas.

I give up.sometimes. I assume none of you have seen him play in the past four years? He's been utter gash for ages. Would rather any of our current left backs

Yep but you know how it is, once a player has spent any amount of time with Saints or comes from anywhere near the eternal city he becomes a folk hero, a cross between Robin Hood and St Francis of Assisis,no matter how gash he's been, what he's done or

how many months he's been without a single game he is always the instant answer to problems that we don't actually have, you only have to read the recent bullsh*t about Beattie to know that.

You obviously don't get it. There are two compelling reasons to sign him. Firstly he was brilliant for us 8 years ago which means automatically just like Beattie, he would roll back the years and perform even better. It's imperative to our promotion hopes we sign them both, come to think of it what are Matt Oakley and Niemi up too these days? TCDAJFU in the positions we are lacking cover.

Secondly and most importantly, Bridge is a Saints fan. We all know that playing for the club you support, especially when it Saints turns you into a footballing god. Remember it's vital to have a team of Saints fans for our champions league hopes. FEt him Sam Vokes, Brian Howard and Wade Elliott along with the return of Beattie we're as good as champions I reckon. It's at

Times like this we need a FOTB and he'd really earn his coin by telling that clueless twonk Cortese where he is going wrong.
