may be a candidate for a new poll

Overall been a fantastic season so far, exceeded most of our expectations, with the hind site of the first 22 games, the pack behind us closing in, what position are you now expecting us to finish

Myself i feel West Ham will end up winning the league (no change from what i thought in the summer) 2nd i think will go to Middlesbrough, but I'm quite certain we will make the play-offs (which i wouldn't of expected in the summer)

between 2nd and 4th too, makes a big difference what we spend in jan as i think west ham will definitely win it & can see a good run from 'Boro. Hope i'm wrong and we finish top two but i'm just not convinced our away form is good enough.

if we don't sign a striker who is good enough to start in january then I think that would be the difference between playoffs or auto...

Equally though Middlesbourghs home form has been nothing great won 4 drawn 6 at home. Can't personally see how they will suddenly do any better than us.

Absolutely, people forget in the summer we all agreed playoffs was a fantastic achievement this season. Top half would be good.

yep, top 10 would have been a good effort...playoffs would have been excellent..

you just know if we don't go up..many (probably on the uglies) and a few lunatics here will start some sort of campaign against something at the club....tis our way

To me they look like the kind of solid team that grinds out results and gets up, there's normally one a season that does it the boring ugly way and i can quite easily see it being them.

As has been said if we don't get another striker (and i actually think another box to box midfielder) we're going to fade.

I hope i'm wrong and anyway top 7 would still be an incredible result in our first season back but i've just got a feeling what we have now has been found out to an extent.

many (probably on the uglies)

Funny i think the posters on the ugly are actually a lot more informed about football than those here. Less inclined to swing from best team ever to pile of ****. I'm guessing cause it's an older crowd who've been going longer (and less of the new fan/spreadsheet football lot).

This thread should be closed on the basis that it's dealing with hypothetical situations. These have proved to be far too confusing for some on here.

That said, 1st or 2nd (the bookies are usually not too far off).

17th?

Aah another kindred spirit. At least you have the courage to give an exact figure unlike some posters who say things like 2nd to 12 th !

It'd be a good effort thinking back to the start of the season, but wouldn't you be a tad disappointed given our current position to finish outside of the playoffs?

Seriously, I am not allowed to review my prediction of 17th !

This does seem a bit severe in the light of our good start.

I think this thread should be revived after the Jan transfer window as this will be very telling in terms of our ambition, intent and our ability to win promotion this season.

I'd like to finish top two. I'd be disappointed to make the playoffs but satisfied. I'd be suicidal (not quite literally) if we didn't make the playoffs.

If we can't get 30 points or so from 24 games I expect the chairman will be "disappointed" as well, manager sacking disappointed even perhaps. Our start is too good to accept anything less now.

I think the next three games will give us a better idea of where we will end up.

We have had a good 3 months but the december month we have some issues. Ones which teams have been exploiting. I doubt none of the other teams top of the tables have failed to win a game in over 3 weeks.

If we can change it up and get back to how we were then i think we still can win the league. But if we continue in the same way we have the past 3-4 games then we will fall fast down the table.

On the contrary to what some others have said i would now think anything other then promotion would be bad. Especially when you think we were 9 points clear of 3rd place going into the 2 games against the two bottom teams in the league. I am sure if we fail to go up now most people would say we would have blown it. And i would tend to agree.

The next few games will show if it is a blip or something more serious. If it is more serious and Adkins is given funds to fix it then it will show what Cortese wants. But you have to remember he has actually backed him quite a bit this season already (Fox/Cork/De Ridder/Jos etc) That is probably £4m-£5m already spent. If we add one of these expensive strikers everyone is talking about then chances are we could of spent £10m this season. If that is the case then again i think if we are not promoted that would be seen as failure.

Agreed with most of what you have said. Surely though splashing out another 5 or 6 million is good business if we get promoted.

what i find odd....really odd (and I have done this in the past) is micro analyse 3 games (or so) and say "that is is....there is our season"

around mid december last season we lost at home to brentford and some wanted adkins out...etc

then we went on an amazing run, yeah we dropped a few points on the way but huddersfield went on an amazing run and still lost out...

we could lose the next 3 and win the 10 after....

why fall in the trap of saying "the next 3 will tell us if we are going up or not"

+1. I think a decent xmas period could see us extend our lead slightly going into the new year then we really do need strengthen with 2 players I'd say. Plus Chaplow and Connolly back, I'm confident we can win the race and be champions.

A fit and in form Connolly can make a major difference. Don't know when we can expect him back ?
