Who remembers the crowd of men and boys outside High ST TV shops on a Saturday afternoon at 5;40 ish? Waiting for the Saints score.

I remember stood outside watching Hillsborough unfold, live.

One of the oddest experiences of my life.

Yep, just up from the corner near the Bargate. near where Primark is now, used to be Marks and Spensers.

Spent many Saturday afternoons waiting for the scores. In the shopping centre in Fareham they used to have Teletext on in the window..... oh the good old days before mobiles.

I remember rushing around trying to find a TV shop in Stamford, finding one and then seeing...

"Norwich 4....."

Me: ****! ^&^&*( useless ****s etc

"....SOUTHAMPTON 5"

Me: YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! WTF!!!! GET THE **** INNNN!!! Never doubted ya Saints

Yeah, outside Rumbelows in Winchester High St waiting for that telex typer thing to print out our score. That was the first indication in them days. We never 'ad radio or footie coverage on the telly, just the telex on the telly at Rumbelows while out shopping with your mam and dad. Aye, tell that to the kids of today, with their smartphones.

Same here actually... walked past slightly earlier to see that it was a delayed KO but knew nothing more at that time, then walked back past to see events unfold.

I also used the one near the Bargate before jumping on the number 58 or 59 bus home.

Mum would be banished to use the last of her Green Shield Stamps in the shop on the corner whilst dad and I would watch the giddy printer. I reckon it's where Vodafone now is.

Memories!!!!!!

Deffo west ham away. Stadium announcer said there had been a death (and a delay - no abandonment) and the initial thoughts were of fighting and maybe a stabbing.

It was only on the drive home that we learnt of the full tragedy

It seems a long time ago watching rugby league or whatever on Grandstand and the scores flashing up at the bottom of the screen when there was a goal.

It's even longer ago that we were sat watching Mick McManus on Saturday afternoon wrestling.

It was a always a race from The Dell through the crowds to get to the tv rental shop (or may have been Electricity Board) before they came up. Vague memories of it being opposite Plummers, same side as Tyrrel & Greens near where cafe Parfait is now
