An Interesting Question?

Now that we're somewhat unexpectedly sat at the top of the League at Christmas, would you take a guaranteed play-off place now (3rd to 6th only) or fight on for an automatic spot with the risk of dropping to 7th or below?

Not being pessimistic, just thought it was an interesting conundrum.

Gamble. We have been the best team in the league so far and now Lallana looks fit again (fingers crossed) I think we start winning again and this midseason blip will be just that, a blip. Not going up now will feel like a failure even though it wouldn't be.

Gamble...

It's a valid hypothetical question.

A bit like 'Deal or No Deal'....you've just been offered £10,000 (= a play-off place) by the banker but the £100,000 and £250,000 (= automatic promotion) are still up on the board. Do you take the £10k now or gamble that the big numbers stay on the board for the remainder of the game (= season)....?

I thought it was too.

We only have to drop 11 points on the following pack over 24 games which is by no means impossible.

not very interesting as it is not possible to take a top 6th place

I would be disappointed to finish in the play-offs. I didn't think we had a chance before the start of the season, but we've shown we are capable of beating any team in the league when we are at our best and fully deserve our top spot.

Expectations have naturally changed and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If we do tumble down the table, you will have to question what the hell went wrong.

what is the point of this hypothetical situation, because whatever I chose you can't guarantee it would happen. So what's the point in asking or corresponding? It's like saying, what would you prefer, an STD or £1m? Whichever you choose, it's pointless.

Better close all the transfer threads and any other thread discussing hypothetical future situations, because you can't guarantee they will happen either.

Or here's an idea: If you don't think it's worthy of comment, ignore it.

Thank you Mr 'Voice of Reason'.

I can't guarantee you we'll sign a striker in January so lets close all those threads. Best not talk about the game at Palace, or any other game for the rest of the season either for that matter. Better close any threads talking about the Premiership, or how far we'll get in the FA Cup, or any thing else that we can't GUARANTEE will happen.

Why talk about these things? It's pointless.

**** PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER COMMENTING ON THIS THREAD. IT HAS BEEN DEEMED POINTLESS BY TURKISH AND IS AWAITING CLOSURE BY THE MODERATORS. THANKS ****

Rarely does a team have this sort of opportunity. Top of the league. Look at teams like Forest who have been close but then faded having not taken their opportunity.

It is a good question to ask and one the Club and NC must be engaged on. The answer is simple: WE MAY NEVER GET THIS CHANCE AGAIN - INVEST AND FIGHT FOR AUTOMATIC PROMOTION. FIGHT FOR THE HONOUR OF GOING UP AS CHAMPIONS. INVEST! INVEST! INVEST!

What he said.

Jesus christ, it's not hard guys. I avoid giving infractions because I think it's fairly pathetic, but if anyone tries to be an utter c*nt again i'll quite happily chuck them out by the bucket load.

Seeing as what happens in the first half of the season is largly irrelevant, the real business only starts in January and given that at the moment we cannot win away even at poor teams like P*mpey, Doncaster, and Bristol City, and given that is unlikely that even we will be able to maintain the superb home form we have shown so far I would take the play off place that most of us would have bitten your hand off for at the start of the season.
