norwaysaint Posted 23 December, 2011 Share Posted 23 December, 2011 There is a butchers in Lyndhurst that do good venison. Venison steak is very nice. We eat quite a lot of venison, but cut out the middleman. It is shot by my father in law in the family's own forest and butchered right there in a small hunting lodge, then driven home to rest before being put in the freezer. We get a lot of elk the same way. Fills our freezer and theirs for the year. It's friendlier and kinder to the animals, who get to lead an idyllic life before the lethal bullet, and the meat is far better quality.
John Boy Saint Posted 24 December, 2011 Share Posted 24 December, 2011 Dull as ditch water in our house! I fancy Goose for a change but all I get is upturned noses. So for our first Christmas in our new house the four of us will be having the usual Bird with all the trimmings: Pigs, Stuffing, Roasties, Fart pills(Sprouts) with bacon and Chestnuts etc etc Finished with trying to burn the house down with a flaming Christmas Pud with strategic coinage secreted about it. All washed down with a choice of a very pleasant Cote du Rhone, a tasty Sancerre, possibly a nice Prossecco picked up on a recent trip to Venice. dubai_phil Posted 24 December, 2011 Share Posted 24 December, 2011 I know you're all dying NOT to know, but anyway we just did the 12 course thing... 1) Nobody told me they have no meat on Xmas Eve 2) I REALLY did not need all those Veggie dishes 16 hours before Sprouts. OK my contribution was Mulled Wine They had some strange thing with like the "bread: that you get at Communion where you offer a piece to someone, they break it off, do the same to you, you exchange Xmas greetings/wishes & kiss (shake hands with the guys). That part was good, FMD_P invited two of her cutey single chick friends around Anyway Borsch, Wild Mushroom "Ears" (sort of a Pilimini) to dip in, 2 types of Pirogi (one with Sauerkraut & Wild Mushrooms, one "Russian" style with cheese), Bean Soup, Groszek Ptysiowy (sort of mini round croutons), Mushroom Soup, White Fish (sort of fried in breadcrumbs), Sauerkraut with beans mixed in, Carrot, Apple, Celery, sort of Puree/Sauce and finally a Polish Cheesecake. Then because someone brought it we had Stollen (sort of a German style fruit cake) And THEN future Mrs D_P's friends had also insisted on a Black Forest Gateau B'day cake for my better half. All washed down with a fruit complait Don't you all wish you were my stomach right now...... Still, the GOOD news is. One year 'til I have to do that again. Might have a LATE lunch tomorrow
