Badger Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 Am looking at a number of sites for this. There seem to be a few available so wondered if anyone on here done this, and any recommendations of which site to go for ? Thanks.
bridge too far Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 (edited) My brother uses Ancestry.com. He's got back to the 1600s for one side of the family. He says it's made easier because there's a facility to post enquiries and he's got in touch with quite a few (very distant) family members who've done a lot more work than him. View From The Top Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 I've used ancestory.com and old fashioned legwork. Got one branch back to the early 1600s. It also answered an awful lot of questions and squared off some myths. I really enjoyed doing it.
Minty Posted 22 December, 2011 Share Posted 22 December, 2011 Ancestry here too, although occasionally used other sites on a pay-as-you-go basis for collections that Ancestry don't have. Been doing it for years so if you need any help, I might be able to assist.
ecuk268 Posted 22 December, 2011 Share Posted 22 December, 2011 Take a look at http://freeukgen.rootsweb.com/ If you have local roots, the Library at the Civic or the Hants County Records Office in Winchester are very useful and the staff are always happy to help. W9Saint Posted 22 December, 2011 Share Posted 22 December, 2011 ancestry.com is brilliant, also try findmypast.co.uk, and familysearch.org.
