Saint in Paradise Posted 20 December, 2011 Share Posted 20 December, 2011 Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra. He is handed a £40,000 fine and an eight-game ban. .
S-Clarke Posted 20 December, 2011 Share Posted 20 December, 2011 An 8 match ban is mental. Worth bearing in mind that the ban is suspended upon the start of any appeal, which they believe liverpool will start asap.
skintsaint Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 shout racist abuse from the stands and see what punishment you would get. 8 matches is too short imo.
syd_barrett_saint Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 Calling someone negrito in Spanish is not racist abuse. It's actually more of a term of endearment where Suarez is from. And Evra, himself a speaker of another Latin-based language, should be aware of that. Though it seems the FA are not.

They're not in a spanish speaking country though. I like to call my close mates ****s all the time, however if i started calling my colleagues and clients the same i'd be sacked in a minute! Hatch Posted 22 December, 2011 Share Posted 22 December, 2011 It wouldn't be a normal season without Suarez getting a long ban for one reason or another.

Suarez is guilty as and using that excuse to get out of it blatently.

Fine, calling a black kid "little negro boy" could be a form of endearment in South America, but in no way was Suarez being chummy when he directed it. Gets what he deserved. Dalgleish is a **** also.
MatthewStiles Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Reading the FA report, they are taking the word of one man over that of another. Evra accuses Suarez several times of abusing him, Suarez denies it. Nobody else heard anything. There is no video evidence that Suarez abused him. There are inconsistencies in Suarez's evidence but there are also inconsistencies in Evra's. For reasons I don't think are fair, the FA panel think that Evra is a more credible witness than Suarez so they believe Evra. Personally, I think the case against Suarez is weak and that is just from reading the FA panel's reasons. Given LFC's initial statement, there is likely to be an appeal I would imagine. Durleyfos Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 What is the difference between what Suarez has done and what John Terry has done? How come the CPS are involved with the Terry - Ferdinand saga, but not the Suarez - Evra episode?
Red Alert Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Someone in the crowd complained to the police about Terry, there was no other witness to the Suarez incident. I would assume that Evra did not complain to the police about his incident otherwise Suarez could well have ended up in the same situation as Terry. I think this is what will see Terry escape punishment, because the police will find him innocent due to lack of evidence the FA can say that there is nothing further they can prove, so keeping Englands star defender fit for the run up to the Euros. MatthewStiles Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Red Alert is right about the CPS. They would have looked for evidence that proved guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This case really boils down to one man's word against another's so I would imagine the CPS not taking it forward. One of the few pro-Suarez pieces in the media is here: http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-news/liverpool-fc/2012/01/01/comment-liverpool-fc-striker-luis-suarez-s-name-smeared-on-a-hunch-55578-30044683/
