Too many loan deals do not turn out well, and assuming that he's not getting first team action here anytime soon, no need to rush him back. Him doing well at Brentford (presumably gaining confidence and experience) seems to benefit both us and them. Let him develop as a player and the staff will assess his future at SFC later... thanks for the link!

good to hear, hope it continues for him

..however, to put in perspective..he's doing well in a middling to poor L1 side, but good to hear one of our loan players is actually getting some games .

Harsh, Brentford are 6th. I backed them at 20/1 before the season started to win League 1 but their home form hasn't been good enough.

Very much doubt that we would let him go, he seems to fit in perfectly with our ethos, comfortable on the ball, playing out from defence. I also liked to read that he was cosnidered "level headed", again sounds like the sort of player we are developing now. He should have already made his debut for us, he was really due a runout against Swindon in the League Cup but was thwarted by the fact that we struggled to beat a L2 outfit that night. Would probably be good for his development to leave him with Uwe for the rest of the season and assess his prospects then (will be much more difficult for him to break through in the PL).

All I remember of him is coming across as a complete tool on Twitter when Gary Speed passed away.

Good to see he will continue to get games.

i was there last night and thought he played very well, looking very comfortable at the back and good on the ball, however Carlisle were dreadful so hard to judge him on that. He is a big lad, similar to Martin in a way.

Take a look at Jack Cork’s career progression and loan experiences.

The best thing these young lads can do is to get out and get experience playing in front of crowds in games that matter with experienced professionals. Much better than hanging around in the reserves/development squad playing once every couple of weeks against players their own age.

Good for him for having the nuts to do this and I am glad he is doing well.

I've spoken to a mate who is a Brentford season ticket holder and he says Dean is doing OK. Has made a few howlers, but is obviously now adding goals to his list of achievements so he is contributing more. This sort of loan is ideal for a young player and I hope it stand him in good stead for his career either with saints or another club.

Thanks for the updates. It's suprisingly difficult to find stats and discussions about our various loanees, so much appreciated.

Did we ever consider a "loan watch" thread where we could gather discussion about the handful of players we chronically loan out?

He's revealed that we're not offering him a new contract in the summer. Bit of a shame IMO, looked good when I've seen him play for Brentford and might have developed into a decent player but he seems to be a victim of our success. Good luck for the future Harlee!

Southampton Defender Eyes Bees Switch

He said: “It's a massive step up playing first-team football rather than being stuck in the reserves, but I've really enjoyed it.

“Southampton won't be offering me a new contract so if the opportunity arose to stay here I would love to.”

We will always let a few go as the season ends. Normal practice.

Indeed we do. But one of the nicer, probably the only nice thing about the dead wood we've kept over previous seasons, is getting rid at the end of the season is a positive move. Now we're looking at letting go of talented players with big potential, it's just not as fun :(
