Saint Charlie Posted 19 December, 2011 Posted 19 December, 2011 Doing well at Brentford it appears... http://www.griffinpark.org/forums/showthread.php?t=95449&page=4
S-Clarke Posted 19 December, 2011 Posted 19 December, 2011 That's a really nice read. Shows what a great job our coaches have done on him, because he was never a CB before he came to us - he was an AMC.
Crazy Diamond Posted 19 December, 2011 Posted 19 December, 2011 'A lower league Phil Jones' - either ill informed or absolutely brilliant!
sarum saint Posted 19 December, 2011 Posted 19 December, 2011 Leave on loan for rest of season and re-assess in the summer ? Seems a win win for all parties?
Lazlo78 Posted 19 December, 2011 Posted 19 December, 2011 Too many loan deals do not turn out well, and assuming that he's not getting first team action here anytime soon, no need to rush him back. Him doing well at Brentford (presumably gaining confidence and experience) seems to benefit both us and them. Let him develop as a player and the staff will assess his future at SFC later... thanks for the link!
SNSUN Posted 19 December, 2011 Posted 19 December, 2011 Sounds like centre back could be one of our strongest positions in the years to come. Good experience for the lad, and not one negative comment on that site.
david in sweden Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 good to hear, hope it continues for him ..however, to put in perspective..he's doing well in a middling to poor L1 side, but good to hear one of our loan players is actually getting some games .
buctootim Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 to put in perspective..he's doing well in a middling to poor L1 side Bit like Fonte early part of last season then...
JibMcdo Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 good to hear, hope it continues for him ..however, to put in perspective..he's doing well in a middling to poor L1 side, but good to hear one of our loan players is actually getting some games . Harsh, Brentford are 6th. I backed them at 20/1 before the season started to win League 1 but their home form hasn't been good enough.
derry Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 Leave him at Brentford playing games with an instant recall clause if needed.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 I read somewhere that they're buying him for about 25K.
Stu Man Do Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 I read somewhere that they're buying him for about 25K. 25k? Hardly worth having developed him if thats all that comes in! Hopefully this loan is more for experience than from any genuine need to offload him as he sounds like hes doing well.
VectisSaint Posted 23 December, 2011 Posted 23 December, 2011 Very much doubt that we would let him go, he seems to fit in perfectly with our ethos, comfortable on the ball, playing out from defence. I also liked to read that he was cosnidered "level headed", again sounds like the sort of player we are developing now. He should have already made his debut for us, he was really due a runout against Swindon in the League Cup but was thwarted by the fact that we struggled to beat a L2 outfit that night. Would probably be good for his development to leave him with Uwe for the rest of the season and assess his prospects then (will be much more difficult for him to break through in the PL).
Crazy Diamond Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 He's extended his loan at Brentford until the end of the season.
Window Cleaner Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 He's extended his loan at Brentford until the end of the season. Good for him, better to be playing in League 1 than scrubbing about in the "development squad"

All I remember of him is coming across as a complete tool on Twitter when Gary Speed passed away. Good to see he will continue to get games.
Crazy Diamond Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 Brentford fans seem to be excited anyway.
Andy Durman Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 He was on loan to Bishop Stortford for a while that was a baptism of fire
SuperSAINT Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 Excellent news. It's great when the loan system works. Be good for him to stay there 'til the end of the season.
VectisSaint Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 He's extended his loan at Brentford until the end of the season. I would read into this that we will be bringing in another CB in that case.
sammysaint Posted 5 January, 2012 Posted 5 January, 2012 I think its great for him and us that hes playing in league one, he seems a decent prospect and hopefully can do a job for us next season if we dont go up and if we do, would be a good back up, if hes improving and keeping up the good reviews.
Lazlo78 Posted 20 February, 2012 Posted 20 February, 2012 Scored Brentford's first today against Carlisle. Haven't been following his progress though!
Crazy Diamond Posted 20 February, 2012 Posted 20 February, 2012 A friend of mine is the son of the kitman at Brentford, or rather was, he sadly died last year. I asked him about Dean and he said he's been a load of crap. Interesting!
Lazlo78 Posted 20 February, 2012 Posted 20 February, 2012 "son of the kitman" Now where did I hear that before?....
RonManager Posted 21 February, 2012 Posted 21 February, 2012 My word, the boy's over the moon. http://www.london24.com/sport/southampton_loanee_speaks_after_scoring_first_senior_goal_1_1215477
JRM Posted 21 February, 2012 Posted 21 February, 2012 My word, the boy's over the moon. http://www.london24.com/sport/southampton_loanee_speaks_after_scoring_first_senior_goal_1_1215477 i was there last night and thought he played very well, looking very comfortable at the back and good on the ball, however Carlisle were dreadful so hard to judge him on that. He is a big lad, similar to Martin in a way.
saintbob40 Posted 21 February, 2012 Posted 21 February, 2012 Take a look at Jack Cork’s career progression and loan experiences. The best thing these young lads can do is to get out and get experience playing in front of crowds in games that matter with experienced professionals. Much better than hanging around in the reserves/development squad playing once every couple of weeks against players their own age. Good for him for having the nuts to do this and I am glad he is doing well.
Alanh Posted 21 February, 2012 Posted 21 February, 2012 I've spoken to a mate who is a Brentford season ticket holder and he says Dean is doing OK. Has made a few howlers, but is obviously now adding goals to his list of achievements so he is contributing more. This sort of loan is ideal for a young player and I hope it stand him in good stead for his career either with saints or another club.
Lazlo78 Posted 21 February, 2012 Posted 21 February, 2012 Thanks for the updates. It's suprisingly difficult to find stats and discussions about our various loanees, so much appreciated. Did we ever consider a "loan watch" thread where we could gather discussion about the handful of players we chronically loan out?
itchen_dan Posted 30 March, 2012 Posted 30 March, 2012 He's revealed that we're not offering him a new contract in the summer. Bit of a shame IMO, looked good when I've seen him play for Brentford and might have developed into a decent player but he seems to be a victim of our success. Good luck for the future Harlee! Southampton Defender Eyes Bees Switch He said: “It's a massive step up playing first-team football rather than being stuck in the reserves, but I've really enjoyed it. “Southampton won't be offering me a new contract so if the opportunity arose to stay here I would love to.”
EBS1980 Posted 30 March, 2012 Posted 30 March, 2012 I think there may be a few like that. If we were still in the championship they might have been kept on but if we get promoted the reality is more will be let go to make space to others.
SFC Forever Posted 30 March, 2012 Posted 30 March, 2012 We will always let a few go as the season ends. Normal practice.
RobM Posted 30 March, 2012 Posted 30 March, 2012 We will always let a few go as the season ends. Normal practice. Indeed we do. But one of the nicer, probably the only nice thing about the dead wood we've kept over previous seasons, is getting rid at the end of the season is a positive move. Now we're looking at letting go of talented players with big potential, it's just not as fun
