Saint_Randell Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Basically just wanted to know if you took away Lambert's penalties this year would he still be top scorer in the league? Was having an argument with a skate who said he's only top scorer because he takes penalties, which we all know is bullsh*t but wanted to prove to him wrong. He's 6 goals ahead of McCormack (in all competitions)...
Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 one thing is for sure...if lambert carries on like this..he will be playing premier league football with or without saints next season
Marsdinho Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Hope he wins Championship top goal scorer this season. I've got 50p e/w on it at 20/1 !!!!
pap Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Lambert is a legend in my eyes already. That's why I chortle so much when the anti-scouse brigade talk about "bin-dippers", etc. We'd still be in League 1 without his contribution. Bearsy Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Well you've got to take off the penalties because well anyone can take a penalty. And his first against against Blackpool was deflected so you can't count that, and the one against us he was climbing all over the defender and in any case it was more about the cross, in fact take off any in the six yard box - my nan could score from six yards. And I've seen a couple of others which I thought were offside and another where there was a clear foul in the build up. If you think about it, really, fatty hasn't scored yet this season. Southampton Goal Machine my arse I'd sooner have Huselklepp any day of the week.
suewhistle Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 What an apposite user name: "Skate Logic". I'd sooner they had Huselklepp too!

Well they can keep faith in Huselklepp and we will keep faith in Rickie - I know which team has a better chance of promotion !!!!!!
Saint_Randell Posted 19 December, 2011 Author Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Haha, this is what I have to put up with: ' Fir the record most of Lamberts goals that go towards his title 'seasons top scorer' are from penalties, if you're the penalty taker you're obviously going to have more over all goals, yeah he's a good player but you're making him out to be... amazing, his skills aren't that good, he knows where to be at the right time and he's got good ball control, but when I rewatched the saints goal he proper smashed Pearce out of the way, he uses his size to a big advantage sometimes, doesn't make him as amazing as everyone's making out, he was highly doubted in division 1. ' Some Skates are so stupid it's laughable.
Dr Who? Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Still part of the game, and still got to stick the ball in the net. Pen or not, he is a class acted, his all round play is fantastic, as well as his goals. You do not have to be in the premier league to be a legend. There are plenty of players at clubs that have never been anywhere near the premier league who are legends. Look at Steve Bull, I think he may have retired the year that they went into top flight? ant Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 (edited) And his first against against Blackpool was deflected so you can't count that Obviously the quote above is fabricated (or at least I hope it is!) but even if anybody does try to say that about the Blackpool goal I'm pretty sure the official stats don't count it as Rickie's - he'd be on 16 strikes in the nPC if they did. McCormack's on 10 in the league, surely we've not had more than 5 pens? Edited 19 December, 2011 by ant
Appy Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 I forgot that penalties don't count as goals.
redder freak Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 I wonder how many of the penalties were for fouls on Rickie when he was in a goal scoring position? And how may penalties has Huselklip won and converted?
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Lambert is IMO our best and most important player. He is already a legend in my eyes, especially having now scored at Nottarf. I think he'll get the golden boot.
Whitey Grandad Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Every top score is usually the one who takes the penalties. That's what makes them top scorers. Ian Wright, Alan Shearer, Ruud Van Nistelroy....
doddisalegend Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 I like this one from one of the skate forums In fact there was a much better line to follow, which was Lambert and his duel with Rocha; for example, "Lambert is needed in the box, not out on the left" should have been "Lambert is being forced into unproductive areas by Rocha's intelligent positional play" which becomes a discussion on the relative roles of physique and intelligence in the game of football; i.e., the battle between brain and brawn (result today Brawn 1 Brain 0). Ermmmm yes Lambert never goes out wide ever........It was all Rocha's fantastic defending..............
revolution saint Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Pompey fans still think Matt Le Tiss was rubbish and we had exactly the same debate - he only scores pens, his shots are deflected etc, etc. Fact is RL is worth more to us than their squad combined twice over and if they can't see it then I don't really care. SNSUN Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Nearly every other team we've played this season has said they'd kill to have Lambert up front. The Skates just can't see quality when it's right there in front of their deformed noses.
supergoose Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Even the dumbass Skates know how good the legendary Lambo is but they're certainly not going to tell us.
scott_saints Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 The fact that they are trying to find reasons as to why he isn't good is a sign that they know how good he is.
