Dr Who? Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Very happy with that, if you had offered me that at start of season would have taken it happily Yes and we have just had our wobble with a great away point today and two home games coming up..... of course if we balls these 2 home games up I may start to worry. Think we should sign Billy Sharp, as he could be brilliant with better supply! Him and Lambert would be brilliant together.

LA77 Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 well done lads. A Saints team that have achieved great things in such a short time. You gave it your all today, that's all I would ever ask. onwards and upwards
Lazlo78 Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Liking the view from the top. We've gone through different phases (honeymoon, home win record, away troubles, key injuries, stuttering) and now we're top of the league at christmas! Excellent chance to consolidate and push for the 2nd half of the season...
saintmatt Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 You can sit and critizise and analyse but be honest who on here thought we would be where we are at start of season This. All the wrist-slitters need to take a step back and just look at the table; their credibility when moaning is justified (i.e. when they'll be at their happiest) will be nil. SaintAndy14 Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Good thread! It's easier to notice/comment on the negatives but overall this season has been superb so far and everyone has contributed to that success. Would be delighted and rather confident if we now get a top striker in in January, certainly someone like Sharp if we can't convince the guy himself. That may be the difference between automatics and playoffs come the end of the season!

teamsaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I know its only stats.........but this is BHAs worst run of results last season. 29 DecemberBrighton & Hove Albion1-1Charlton Athletic 11 DecemberHuddersfield Town2-1Brighton & Hove Albion 23 NovemberSouthampton0-0Brighton & Hove Albion 20 NovemberBrighton & Hove Albion2-2Bristol Rovers 3 NovemberHartlepool United3-1Brighton & Hove Albion That was 2 points from 5 games. They seemed to recover pretty well !! With a quality reinforcement or two we have every chance of a fantastic second half of the season. I am very confident that we can win plenty more matches, and that our defence will improve as time goes on. Saints top of a league for 3 months, and top at Xmas. How great is it to go into games thinking about whether we will still be top, or what our lead is? Happy days.
S-Clarke Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 To go through the dip we have had recently, which has been a pretty poor haul of points, yet still be clear at the top shows how good we've been. Lambo had it spot on today in his post match interview how he said we've been amazing in the first half of the season, which we have been. Beyond anyone's expectations. All I wanted from this season was a good solid showing and a potential push for a top 6 place, now sitting where we are at Christmas I'd be gutted to miss out on a top 2 place! And even if we don't make it this year, which I'd be gutted if we didn't, everything is in place for us to go again next year. It's not like our championship promotion push under Burley which was just a 1 season wonder, if we don't do it this year we'll be there or there abouts again next year. We'll be back in the premiership before long.

sussexsaint Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Well as I was singing ' we are top of the league' early on I certainly ,in my heart, never believed in my wildest dreams we would still be there at Christmas, and also to be disappointed by a run of form, how quickly expectations change. Make a few quality signings in January and we should go up one way or another I'm sure, which is an incredible thing to be saying after just one season
doddisalegend Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 (edited) Never thought we would be top of the league for one week let alone most of the 1st half of the season. Considering my expectations at the start of the season I couldn't be happier. The only problem is that having done so well a lot of peoples expectations have gone up which is building up pressure among the surpporters The crowd at SMS seem far more edgy and quick to get on the players backs than they did at the start of the season. LostBoys Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 I did hope that we would be top 6 but top was unexpected. I think we have been a bit 'lucky' with other teams results when we have frequently stuttered and there will be weeks when all other results will go against us but otherwise a good half season - it is difficult to argue otherwise. Three players in January are needed to be top at the end of the season in my opinion.
London Saint Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Two winnable home games coming up followed by a trip to Brighton should see us through nicely into 2012 at the top too... Still need to strengthen the squad though - and a new striker would be top of the list Cortese will realise this might be our only chance for many years to get back to the Prem so he should really pull out all the stops to give Nige the money he needs

Bit in bold is however critical in my view if we are to regain momentum as we seem to be 'running on empty' recently.
St Marco Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 If you had said that on the first match day this season we would be top at xmas i doubt many would of believed it. We have done very well and the players/manager/chairman/staff etc all deserve huge credit for it! However.... Regardless of where we are in the league, no matter what league we are in. Going 3 weeks without a win is not good. The next 3 games are massive.
South City Si Posted 21 December, 2011 Share Posted 21 December, 2011 Got to say didn't exepct it at all at the beginning of the season, scrape 6th place by end of season but not top at Christmas!
Under Weststand Posted 22 December, 2011 Share Posted 22 December, 2011 What a year, promotion followed by a storming 1st half of the year. So far this season has been way beyond expectations hoped to be in a position to challenge for play-offs but top is just fantastic. Lets go & finish the job now Saints. Every team has a dip in form, its how you respond to it that counts! I have belief in the team & NA, 7-points from the next 3-games we are back on track. Yes we need a little extra gas in the tank couple of new faces in the team to freshen it up & maybe give us a different option. Happy Christmas! Badger Posted 22 December, 2011 Share Posted 22 December, 2011 just like WBA and being bottom at xmas in 2004.... That was an analogy that crossed my mind when I first heard this "top at Christmas" being trotted out.
