Dr Who? Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 We have 2 home games coming up to put things right. IF we can take 6 points from these two games against Palace and Bristol City then we have a great chance of moving back to 4 or more points clear at the top. With only us and Boro having 2 home games (Boro at home to Hull City in one of them), where the rest of the top 6 have 2 away games, I really do think that we could go into the New Year right back on track. If we had lost today I think we would have found it hard to pick ourselves up, but as we were the better team and never looked like losing, I really do think we will be back on track in 12 days time, really for our trip to the Amex!!! redder freak Posted 19 December, 2011 Share Posted 19 December, 2011 Not quite halfway through the 2011/12 season. We already have half as many points as QPR, who were champions in the 2010/11 season, and more than Preston, Sheffield United and S****horpe, who were relegated. Onwards and upwards! OfnPanad Posted 20 December, 2011 Share Posted 20 December, 2011 Perhaps Adkins needs a bot of a rethink on his tactics/selection/formation for the next 2 matches. Obviously we are really hampered by the lack of Chaplow, Connolly & Barnard but we have some problems and they are really starting to cost us. This is from actual attendance, by the way....! 1) Lambert is clearly our only reliable source of goals at the moment, which makes us too predictable. 2) The 9 other outfield players seemingly refuse to shoot even when presented with a free shot at the 'keeper. Always looking for one more pass as a first option or a clearly rushed snap shot if there's really no other option. Is this a tactical instruction, or is everyone else lacking in confidence? 3) Even given the above, Lambert still often drifts wide to pick up the ball and cross it. He is superb at doing this but what is the point when no-one else will attack the ball with any confidence? 4) Whatever position Schneiderlin is meant to play, he always seems to end up being the point of a midfield diamond. How many times in recent matches has a good opportunity fallen to him? You could make the point that he has the vision to get there, however as he couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo, it doesn't matter! In the absence of Chaplow, it has to be someone who can shoot in that position. Lallana is the obvious choice but Holmes or of course De Ridder can both shoot too. Even Harding could do a turn there as he has a sweet left foot and Adkins seems to be playing him for the sake of it anyway - he has made that bizarre Fox for Harding substitution the past few matches. 5) Guly does not play well up front with Lambert - he needs to be used differently. Bring him on as an impact sub I guess. He has been both brilliant in flashes and the worst player on the pitch this season...unfortunately it seems once he feels things are going against him, his confidence vanishes. He's there to be a flair player and a flair player with no confidence is not worth his place. 6) Cork, Hammond & Schneiderlin are too similar and when we play all 3 we get lots of nice backwards passing and retaining possession - but no penetration. I like Adkins and he has done a really good job, but correct me if I'm wrong, we are playing the same way as we did when we had our first choice XI. Does he not see that it's just not working with the 'best of the rest'? Anyway that's my 2 pence! We are top of the league so hats off to Adkins for blowing our expectations out of the water so far! Toomer Posted 20 December, 2011 Share Posted 20 December, 2011 We need to find that missing spark in the team, if Chappers is fit IMO he could be it but I see no reason why we can't get at least 7 points out of the next three games.
