FreemantleSaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Apologies if this is being covered on another thread, but if so I couldn't find it, I was just wondering how our travelling fans found the policing tactics etc today. Were the police stopping drunk people getting on the coaches? Were the travel club coaches as dull as usual or was their a bit of fun for once? And did the Pompey fans try to break the bubble at all?
Um Bongo Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 It worked really well. I don't think anyone can argue with that - Got there with plenty of time, nowhere for Pompey fans to even try and get to us. Bus 5 was a good laugh.
Bourno Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Bus 1 was good from Bursledon, plenty of singing, felt very safe the whole trip, I know I will be shot down but it was quick and efficient and should be used in future. Just a shame we had a crappy brijan tours double decker.
hypochondriac Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Tbh I think it was a really good idea now I've actually used it...
FreemantleSaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Author Posted 18 December, 2011 Sounds ok then, seems like the day was relatively trouble-free, compared to our previous visits there. Presumably it's a lot easier for police to escort coaches to the ground (I nearly wrote stadium until I remembered which cess pit I was writing about!) on time than fans on foot from the train station. Nice to see our skint friends have actually got round to putting a roof on their away end too!
Nexstar Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 A slick process (on the day) by the police/stewards. Being on the bus was a bit of a laugh, especially when rolling through Pompey. It worked excellently in terms of keeping the sets of fans apart before and after, just a shame that it makes you feel like a criminal, being constantly surrounded by police. Not to mention the amount of cameras that filmed us.
70's Mike Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Bus 3 feom Bursledon was great laugh, do not object to the OB filming us but press were everywhere to. Good bit of banter on the way out where a few skates had gathered behind the gate of the North Stand will be interesting to see how the bubble works at SMS
saints_is_the_south Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Superbly organised tbf, thought we'd be waiting a lot longer to leave than we were too. Did anybody manage to smugle any booze on? With hindsight now I reckon it would have been very easy as there were no checks when getting on.
Huffton Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Thought it was a very slick run operation once we finally got going. Can still see why people who have to travel miles are against it, and the ticket office could have made it easier if they just posted the bloody tickets out, but that aside well done to Hants police.
Crab Lungs Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Tbh I think it was a really good idea now I've actually used it... But where are the FoB's to confirm this? They all told us it was going to be a disaster. No, they assured us.
Toomer Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 We had a round of downstairs upstairs over here on bus 15.
Huffton Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 We had some burberry clad idiot manage to break the front window on ours, what the dickhead didn't realise is he was sat right in front of a cctv camera:rolleyes:
Bourno Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 We had to have our names ticked off on a list when getting on the bus for both legs. The list of passengers was not in alphabetical order which was crazy, and 2 people sat in our seats on the way back which meant i couldn't sit next to my 9 yr old - minor blips.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 According to the BBC South news the 'bubble' operation seems to have been a outstanding success, with only one arrest (for the flare) and a pleasing lack of rioting among PFC's over excitable fanbase. Like it or not, this operation will surely become standard practice from now on I'd have thought. The pictures did show however some local parents hurling hateful abuse at our bus convoy while cradling little babies in their hands - displaying all the class we have come to expect from our fishy friends.
2.3 Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Was really well done, didn't take my nipper as I thought we might be sitting ducks but no hastle at all, will definitely take him if they are around in future seasons and the bubble is used
Graffito Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 But where are the FoB's to confirm this? They all told us it was going to be a disaster. No, they assured us. They told you it would infringe your civil liberties.
Scarface Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Was excellent, efficient and well managed.....
Baj Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Thought it was very well run. There did seem to be a bit of a holdup before leaving, which made us a bit anxious, but had we realised that we would have an escort the whole way, including jumping every red light, I wouldnt have minded. Took about an hour from "door to door". Going back was even better, couldnt believe how quick it all happened, was expecting to sit there for at least an hour. All in all, a great success. (but £18 for that, seriously?)
Michelle Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Worked perfectly in terms of ease of getting in/out Portsmouth, much smoother than the last two trips on SWT! Will still argue the toss that £12 was too much, but other than that no complaints - probably helped by the fact that after the aforementioned train hassle, I was gonna get the coach/bus anyway.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 We had some burberry clad idiot manage to break the front window on ours, what the dickhead didn't realise is he was sat right in front of a cctv camera:rolleyes: Someone on the bus or a skate?
Michelle Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 All in all, a great success. (but £18 for that, seriously?) If you paid £18 you were more robbed than the rest of us!
Baj Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 If you paid £18 you were more robbed than the rest of us! Ah, to be honest, Ive no idea how much I owe Ali for the ticket and coach... thought the coach was £18, heheh
hypochondriac Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 But where are the FoB's to confirm this? They all told us it was going to be a disaster. No, they assured us. TBF I don't think you could have predicted how easily it actually was. We were quickly in and out with no holdups.
Bevans Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Someone on the bus or a skate? Someone on the bus, I was unfortunately sat next to him.... he was a prat..... just kept on getting his arse out, not a treat.
Crab Lungs Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 TBF I don't think you could have predicted how easily it actually was. We were quickly in and out with no holdups. ... or they could at the very least now concede that it was a good plan executed well. I doubt it though, I'm sure they'll slip off quietly into the darkness, awaiting the next "drama" to unfold, returning once more to offer their pearls of wisdom. Well done the police btw.
70's Mike Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 TBF I don't think you could have predicted how easily it actually was. We were quickly in and out with no holdups. as a council tax payer in hampshire , how much did it cost
Ashley Grute Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Top deck of bus 3 from burseldon was really funny- great atmosphere there and back
70's Mike Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Top deck of bus 3 from burseldon was really funny- great atmosphere there and back totally agree me and 2 lads sat 3 rows from back
hypochondriac Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 ... or they could at the very least now concede that it was a good plan executed well. I doubt it though, I'm sure they'll slip off quietly into the darkness, awaiting the next "drama" to unfold, returning once more to offer their pearls of wisdom. Well done the police btw. I do think some of it was over the top though. Quite a few of the police were just hanging about not doing anything and things like the helicopter were just pointless.
Saint_clark Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 We had a real gem of a driver, we were flying past the rest of the coaches on the way back.
kpturner Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 I was totally ******ed off with the idea beforehand, but having experienced it I would definitely not be in the least bit bothered about doing it again. Very well organised and painless experience.
kpturner Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 as a council tax payer in hampshire ' date=' how much did it cost[/quote']Dunno - strange question. We had to pay for it - we didn't get a free coach ride. Do you complain about the cost of policing every match?
harwellsaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 well run and a good laugh, even had every bus ripping the **** out of the skates into the ****hole, would defo use again, and yes have been twice before and nearly been killed
LGTL Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 It did work annoyingly well. I fully expect this to be the norm now, which will make Pompey away the 2nd safest away day after Millwall.
aintforever Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Worked OK, only drawback apart from those inconvenienced by the extra travel was people having to p!ss in a bottle and empty it out the window.
harwellsaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 We had a real gem of a driver, we were flying past the rest of the coaches on the way back. bus 3 from winchester?
warsash saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Bus 1 from bursledon - good banter and certainly added to a great day
Torres Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Worked OK, only drawback apart from those inconvenienced by the extra travel was people having to p!ss in a bottle and empty it out the window. One of the guys on bus 29 did this on the way into Skatesmouth and managed to pour it over one of those runners in lycra. Pretty rank but rather amusing. Quite why they couldn't go an hour without having a **** though was beyond me... Overall I thought the bubble took the edge off the away trip and made the whole thing feel safer and thus more muted.
JB Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 It was like going on a school trip but with more helicopters and less vodka.
forever a red and white Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Thought it worked really well. Stops the unwanted trouble gets the fans in and out quickly. Can't complain
Pat from Poole Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 One of the guys on bus 29 did this on the way into Skatesmouth and managed to pour it over one of those runners in lycra. Pretty rank but rather amusing. Quite why they couldn't go an hour without having a **** though was beyond me... Overall I thought the bubble took the edge off the away trip and made the whole thing feel safer and thus more muted. I was on bus 30 and saw the bottle of pee being lobbed at the jogger from bus 29, had to admit it was funny at the time, albeit not for him obviously. Shame it hadn't been lobbed at some of the mongs hanging out of their front doors near the ground giving the usual signs.
Pat from Poole Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Meant to say in addition, I thought the bubble was actually pretty good. Not as much fun as the train obviously, but safe and well-organised.
errol_slymm Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 I moaned like f*ck about the bubble trip but it turned out ok. Like Pat said not as much fun as the train but I did actually get in the ground in time for kick off, which is a first. Twice before we've been "kettled" outside for the first 20 or so mins of the game..
Orange Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 It was boring. But i'll admit, well organised.
Saint_clark Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 I was totally ******ed off with the idea beforehand, but having experienced it I would definitely not be in the least bit bothered about doing it again. Very well organised and painless experience. ...as long as the actual ticket purchasing process is a bit smoother, I agree.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 Was really impressed. Went really well and for once I didn't come into direct contact with a copper the whole day, which is far from what I was expecting. Are there pics of the convoy?
saintscottofthenortham Posted 18 December, 2011 Posted 18 December, 2011 It was boring. But i'll admit, well organised. Agreed. It did take the fun out of it.
