The fact is in a live televised game, its standard practice to do shots like that. At least you didn't have repeat shots of the moon or planes arriving at Heathrow like there was for Fulham v Odense. It may be standard practice but it's poor practice. We really don't want to see long lingering camera shots of some ugly ginger sod especially when the ball's in play. Too much standard practice all round with that coverage. Very poor commentary and lazy journalism which resorted far too often to cliche. The Skate was the only one that knows anything about the FL. beatlesaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Apart from the fact the main camera appeared to be in Southsea, the two commentators were clueless, the presenter was a class A cock and they showed replays when something was going on I thought they did quite well ;-)

Shame really that they got Shearer as the "Saints" player, because it was quite clear that he has no great affection for Saints and had little or no clue about us this season, whereas Claridge as alwasy was very complimentary to Saints and proves over and over again that despite what many on here think that he is actually a very intelligent and fair summariser. IN MY DAY Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 i think the coverage changed after about 10mins, every piece of action had someone mouthing abuse, we can all lip read. Everytime lalana took a corner in the first half the guy in the wheelchair was 2ft away shouting ''your xxcking xxit'' after that everything went long shot. We are talking mid day on a sunday afternoon. i think the producer was covering his ass, as for the sound filter for the songs, non-existant. But he also made it quite clear that he had little or no regard for us since then and had no idea about us this season. I gather from the coverage today that he was also not very prolific when he was with us. If that was the case why did Blackburn pay so much money for him? 43 goals from when he was 17 to 21 is not a bad return in my opinion. Shearer has one love, the Barcodes. I thought the same thing, the image selection was hopeless and interrupted the flow of play completely. Fortunately we didn't have audio as the Utd vs QPR game took priority in the bar. Having said that I'm delighted I got to see the game even if it was on pixelated and blurry at times. Roll on the return game at SMS. Top of the league! waterlooville saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I thought the choice of picture, timing of replays, etc was often poor and really showed how good Sky are, but there was lots of verbal abuse and hand jestures from the crowd in a lot of close ups which may well have influenced the directors choices. Have to say though they should have expected it.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Well done to Alan Shearer for pretending he's still some sort of Saints fan, but I'm far from convinced. Even accepting that the natural choice (MLT of course) works for Sky these days, surely the BBC could have found a more convincing representative of Hampshire's biggest club - Mick Channon or get Claus Lundekvam over perhaps. I was yelling at the director as well BUT if you watch sky you should know they all do the same. Forever showing replays, sometimes of meaningless incidents when the ball is in play and having to cut back to the live action quickly when the crowd noise tells them that something is happening. After a goal is scored you hardly ever see the following kick off, sometimes they don't show throw ins etc-just too busy showing off all the angles for replays. I tend to think it was the former. Very obvious he prefers the glamour of Formula 1 and it was left to Claridge to place the Saints performance in context, "they've played better than this", which, he's done fairly on the FLS whenever I've seen him. Shearer performed as he does on MOTD, totally anodyne, little insight, and, again, poor preparation.
