washsaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 that was the first game I got to see this season and my observations were that I hope Saints don't go up this year (albeit based on that one performance as opposed to being able to see them all season). The side is just not good enough.....there is a nucleus of a decent side: Schneiderlin Hoosveilt Richardson Lallana Lambert possibly Davis although he is getting on a bit now However, Prado was an absolute sack of s***e today and had chances to bury them but seems real lightweight, Hammond and Cork don't appear to be all that, Fox/Harding are weak, Fonte is weak, etc. So in other words I reckon going up this season would be a season too early......the squad is not good enough and without a host of new players we would sink without a trace. Having said that, fair play to NA and the squad for being top at CHristmas.....an unbelievable achievement and one none of us really expected. If we make some astute buys in the New Year (striker, defender, midfielder) then maybe my views will change but on today's performance we are not ready to go up. Vershinin Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I think your attendance record says it all.
Deano6 Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I agree mate, today was my first game too (last saw them a few yuears ago). I think that Lambert is pretty good and that Llanna (or whatever his name is) is quite good too. What do others think? I also liked Schneiderlin too, but that's more because of a funny story that happened earlier in the day LOL.
S-Clarke Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 If that's the first game you've seen this year, there is no way you can come to the conclusion that the side is not good enough. I've been to most games this year and this month is our bad patch, before that we were unbelievable and we knew it couldn't carry on all season as that, we were due a blip. Hammond was excellent today and has been a solid captain for us for the last 3 years, and Cork is a tidy player...similar to Hammond and Morgan, which I feel gives us a problem at times in terms of midfield balance. I think we'd hold our own in the premiership.Compare our starting 11 today to that of Norwich last season. Very similar, I wouldn't swap too many of our players....and look at how they've adapted to the league. It's not always about the quality, it's about the team, the spirit and the momentum. We have all 3 of those and that counts for so much. We do need a bit more pace in the team, up front and out wide so we can stretch teams a bit on the break, but I think we're quite a tidy side. sotonist Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Yeah let's stay down and lose those players instead.
Saint_clark Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 As you said, it was only one game - and there is already a thread for reactions.
