CanadaSaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I'm starting to get concerned that we've become a "style over substance" team in the past month - especially without the direct aggression of Chaplow. Just when we create an incisive opening, we stop, turn back and try to do it again, as Lallana did with his clear second half chance (one of many examples). And there's a special hell reserved for players who turn in a disinterested - never mind gutless - performance in a derby game. Guly may never be forgiven for that. raucebysaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I just don't get Guly at all, looks lazy and uninterested.. If we don't get someone else up with Rickie we won't be going up !
Dig Dig Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Overall I'm sure that NA and the lads would take a point in Hindsight. There is no way they will get anything at St Mary's so 4 points off the skates won't be bad! Just feels like **** as we should have seen that out. No wins in December but we're still top, transfer window round the corner and players to come back from injury. COYS!
alpine_saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 1, He was slow to attack the ball 2, He turned his back to the ball 3, He had no interest is getting his head to the ball in case he got hurt Have a second look tonight. I've had a second look. I thought Kelvin's reaction was p*s-poor too.
MOSaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly is just too inconsistent to be a regular first choice player and on his off days he is atrocious Hammond has been poor as of late too, just doesn't contribute anything. Would definitely take him out of the side when Chaplow returns.

Thedelldays Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 odd game...very scrappy in the 1st half for large parts of the 2nd half we were far far better....again, we messed about with the ball around the area...lallana tried a turn too many instead of shooting. shneiderlin missed a great chance...guly brought a good save.................hooiveld was very good...........richardson was very good...........lambert was very good......lallana was good.......guly was utterly terrible....... Crab Lungs Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly compounded a bad performance with that poor defending and I was wondering why he wasn't replaced at HT. Irrespective, mightily proud that apart from that moment we didn't bottle it and were the better team. Skates as always jammy, but we'll do them at SMS. Hodgey Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Lazlo78 - lots of fair points, but Guly should not have let Ward bully him like he did. He may not have clean won the ball but he sure as hell could have got in the way and prevented the goal, by being so half arsed he also gave Davis no chance. Chance to redeem himself after an absolutely dreadful performance too. He'll get another chance at Palace on boxing day, so I'm not going to get on his back unless he shows the same lack of effort and bottle then. Also having seen the last 3 away days, I cannot believe anyone still believes we don't need another decent forward and right winger - If we spend £8m on those two positions we go up (and collect £100m) if not it's going to be a huge struggle. Chance to see how much Cortsese wants it - we may never get another chance like it.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 (edited) Holmes did as much as guly today! Not true as Guly missed our best two chances constantly gave the ball away and didnt clear on the corner Holmes even though he wasnt on the pitch was therefore much better Edited 18 December, 2011 by Saint Without a Halo

Yate Saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Such a shame. But I would have taken a point beforehand. Guly was very poor today, don't think he liked the atmosphere!! On another note, the BBC coverage was awful, I just wanted to watch the game, not watch individual players for about 15 secs each time and watching needless replays about 4times in slow motion while the game is going on. I'm sure they make it crap because its a CCC game. It was so frustrating to watch.

Disagree End of Nov 5 pts clear of Westham and 9 clear of third Now No win in 3, very poor away form, finding it difficult to make and convert chances, 5 points from last 5 games and no win in December So now, 1 point ahead of Westham, 3 ahead of third and most importantly gving away a win at Fratton when we were in such a good position. Crab Lungs Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I don't understand why peolple don't want us to go up, that's absolutely mental. If we don't go up, there is a good chance of we'll lose a lot of our better players and face the disruption of having to try and replace them. If we do go up, we get £60m and have a fantastic chance of staying up considering the poor quality of the EPL. And if we don't stay up, we go down with £60m in the bank which will give us a better chance than "building" for another season in the NPC. Absolute no brainer. PS: We have enough players in our squad who can hack it in the EPL. 3-4 additions short of being competitive, we're not too far off Norwich's q

We're in a great position, unbelievable really. Bit frustrated by our away results which aren't anywhere near the standard we need, but I'm sure they'll improve. We have 2 good home games to come, and an away match at an injury and a suspension depleted brighton side. It could turn into a pretty good Christmas programme yet. eurosaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Think emotions are getting the better of some - thought Guly was ok, yes, should've done better for their goal, but wasn't as bad as some are saying. As a team we played some good stuff, but just weren't quite able to take the chances to earn the win. Frustrating and on the day disappointing, but in the great scheme of things, we're top of the league at Christmas despite our recent away form. We'll do them at home, and that'll do for me. Well said Minty, as always the voice of reason ! Some of the comments on here are way over the top and we do not need to be making scapegoats after a game like that ! Saint_lambden Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 A little perspective please. Yes, Guly was b0llocks ad bottled the 'header' but Fonte(?) shouldn't have let Thorne have the header back across in the first place. The beauty of Guly is that he'll probably go score in the next game and everyone will scratch their heads in confusion. Pompey were sh!t, and we'll p!iss all over them at St Mary's. They have no money to buy someone who actually knows what it's like to score a goal to replace that donkey Kitson and we're miles ahead of them at the top. Lallana was quality, as was Cork and Hooiveld. Lambert - 1 chance, 1 goal. Not sure why Fox came off, surely a knock?! Onto Palace, but 2 points dropped.
