Saints Vs Pompey Match & Reactions Thread

We need 2 Lamberts simple as. Lambo gets out wide and plays some delightful balls in, only for lead boots Guly to **** it up. Lambo would have buried that chance and Spiderman's one as well.

As for their equaliser, Guly shouldn't have even been on the pitch at that point, why, when it was clear to all of us he was having a mare, did NA not haul him off and get someone else on there?

****ing ****ed off, a famous win ruined. That and I have been nursing a broken hand and managed to totally **** it up during my goal celebration, in bloody agony now for nothing...

Leave it out with the Goolie scapegoating, FFS.

The whole team didnt do enough. Our midfield was mis-firing and rarely dominated.

Oh do f**k off. Guly was in a league of his own today. Sad statement about our other attacking options that he gets to play every week. If we do anything in January, it should be to replace Guly.

I usually see what Guly can do but NOT today, his control, distribution, and effort was poor. Didn't show any fight at all. He can be good but clearly not in a derby!!!

Fox should have stayed on also!

TBF we were the better side and should have still won, the ref made some poor decisions also.

Come on! Top of the League at Xmas?! We are Southampton, we're top of the league!!

:)

I'd never have said we'd be here at the start of the season. But, we need some investment in players… Jay Rod would do us proud for Guly on the bench for example. And a decent 2nd Keeper too of course! We'll then walk this league. Cheque book out NC.

It wasn't Guly's fault. How was he supposed to get off the line and outjump Ward in a split second? Fair enough that we are frustrated but no need for a scapegoat. Go kick a dog instead...

As for the game:

- Feels awful to lose a lead

- The team has mental strength and didn't seem troubled by the hostile atmosphere. Other Saints teams have folded under these circumstances

- The team has discipline - no one went for the obvious red card tackle or red mist punch-up

- Lambert is a footballing god. They had no answer to his physical threat down the left wing

- First half was scrappy. 2nd half we dominated after the goal and should probably have gotten a second goal. And no, Guly's chance wasn't that big - the keeper was there so he needed some luck to get the ball past him

Oh well, no matter how you spin the statistics, we're top of the league at christmas :D

Gully was not even playing but i agree our midfield again were lost, apart from Cork who played well i thought, Hammond really needs to sort out his game. I still think AL would be alot better playing off the striker or just behind them like MLT used to do.

********, we controlled enough of the game to win it, cork and Morgan bossed it. Guly was ****ing awful. Lost the ball all throughout the game and bottled it big time. He was so ****ing weak. Could have done with DC out there.

Don't often criticise the manager but Adkins should have subbed him before half time. In fact, he should not have been picked (hindsight is wonderful, I know). Guly could not control the ball, could not hold it up, could not win any headers, did not tackle. Should have cleared for their goal. Complete liability today, and cost us 2 points.

Ah well, at least we didn't lose.

Think emotions are getting the better of some - thought Guly was ok, yes, should've done better for their goal, but wasn't as bad as some are saying. As a team we played some good stuff, but just weren't quite able to take the chances to earn the win. Frustrating and on the day disappointing, but in the great scheme of things, we're top of the league at Christmas despite our recent away form. We'll do them at home, and that'll do for me.

Feel sorry to see Guly being made the scapegoat, but he had a total shocker. Not just the goal, but he wasn't in the game, His touch was poor and he offered no support what so ever.

I felt we played well, probably one of our best away efforts for a while. Pompey were utter **** and I honestly felt we'd killed them with that goal, the atmopshere and their players just died....and I felt this could be one hell of an historical day in our history, but Guly decides to wimp out in a derby and that's that.

Based on that performance though we need to improve in the middle of the park, too many misplaced passes at times and it got a little too narrow (not enough natural width in the side). and for Pompey, what an horrendous team to watch.

Yes it was, he turned his back and stooped down allowing Ward to out jump and get the header on target.

Morgan can't shoot to save his life! Apart from that I thought he had a better game today than recently. AL looked back to his best.

Happy with the draw I guess, but that's only 5 points out of the last 15. A bad month for us. Need to get back on track fast IMO.

Some sanity, at last.

1, He was slow to attack the ball

2, He turned his back to the ball

3, He had no interest is getting his head to the ball in case he got hurt

Have a second look tonight.

I reckon if you went throught the stats you would discover that although we score lots of goals, our chance conversion is f**king diabolical.
