austsaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 A lot of criticism of Guly for not shutting out their goal, but Harding had no need to concede the corner in the lead up - he had time to at least hook it away for a throw.

Edmonton Saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Portsmouth very rarely looked threatening, so to not win after being in control is very disappointing. If we are to go up we need to become far more ruthless and stop dropping points so frequently.
MOSaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly's wasted chance and subsequent horrendous defending really cost us the win, Pompey had offered nothing before that corner and we dominated after they scored. A striker is a must in Jan, not back up for Lambert a striker to play with him.
Saintjersey Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly you piece sack of s***. Never should have started him, he just likes playing at home where all the fans are nice to him. Man up you f***ing p***y
Norm Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Crap game of football! Crap defending by Gully! Crap TV coverage! Crap match commentary! Crap TWO points lost! I'm lost for words as to why Guly was there for that goal, he should have been off 35 minutes earlier!
OttawaSaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 We need 2 Lamberts simple as. Lambo gets out wide and plays some delightful balls in, only for lead boots Guly to **** it up. Lambo would have buried that chance and Spiderman's one as well. As for their equaliser, Guly shouldn't have even been on the pitch at that point, why, when it was clear to all of us he was having a mare, did NA not haul him off and get someone else on there? ****ing ****ed off, a famous win ruined. That and I have been nursing a broken hand and managed to totally **** it up during my goal celebration, in bloody agony now for nothing... Yorkshire Saint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly terrible performance even without the defending - Adkins stop messing with the team nothing needed changing at 1-0 it's no coincidence the goal came from ward who fox had in the bag. obelisk Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Saints were so much on top in the 2nd half that should have been a comfortable 3 points. Joesaint Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 I usually see what Guly can do but NOT today, his control, distribution, and effort was poor. Didn't show any fight at all. He can be good but clearly not in a derby!!! Fox should have stayed on also! TBF we were the better side and should have still won, the ref made some poor decisions also. SaintRobbie Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Come on! Top of the League at Xmas?! We are Southampton, we're top of the league!! I'd never have said we'd be here at the start of the season. But, we need some investment in players… Jay Rod would do us proud for Guly on the bench for example. And a decent 2nd Keeper too of course! We'll then walk this league. Cheque book out NC.

Lazlo78 Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 It wasn't Guly's fault. How was he supposed to get off the line and outjump Ward in a split second? Fair enough that we are frustrated but no need for a scapegoat. Go kick a dog instead... As for the game: - Feels awful to lose a lead - The team has mental strength and didn't seem troubled by the hostile atmosphere. Other Saints teams have folded under these circumstances - The team has discipline - no one went for the obvious red card tackle or red mist punch-up - Lambert is a footballing god. They had no answer to his physical threat down the left wing - First half was scrappy. 2nd half we dominated after the goal and should probably have gotten a second goal. And no, Guly's chance wasn't that big - the keeper was there so he needed some luck to get the ball past him Oh well, no matter how you spin the statistics, we're top of the league at christmas
Pilchards Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly was ****ing **** & we threw 2 points away as we never truly believed we could get a 2nd. Gully was not even playing but i agree our midfield again were lost, apart from Cork who played well i thought, Hammond really needs to sort out his game. SaintAndy14 Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Anyone who has been to even a handful of away games will realise that this was a standard Guly away performance - no fight, workrate, effort or anything else. How the hell he was on the pitch for the whole game is shocking. Cost us the win for sure.
Ade Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Don't often criticise the manager but Adkins should have subbed him before half time. In fact, he should not have been picked (hindsight is wonderful, I know). Guly could not control the ball, could not hold it up, could not win any headers, did not tackle. Should have cleared for their goal. Complete liability today, and cost us 2 points. Ah well, at least we didn't lose.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 poor run of form 3 without a win and poor away form 1 point from Bristol doncaster and Poopey Improvement needed we are only just still on promotion form with our average points per game down to exactly 2 for the first time this season We need to get back to our earlier form and confidence quickly. Minty Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Think emotions are getting the better of some - thought Guly was ok, yes, should've done better for their goal, but wasn't as bad as some are saying. As a team we played some good stuff, but just weren't quite able to take the chances to earn the win. Frustrating and on the day disappointing, but in the great scheme of things, we're top of the league at Christmas despite our recent away form. We'll do them at home, and that'll do for me. Saints Fan Dan Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Guly was indeed appalling but it was also the decision to take Fox off. Had he been on the pitch the entire match he wouldn't have given the corner away.
S-Clarke Posted 18 December, 2011 Share Posted 18 December, 2011 Feel sorry to see Guly being made the scapegoat, but he had a total shocker. Not just the goal, but he wasn't in the game, His touch was poor and he offered no support what so ever. I felt we played well, probably one of our best away efforts for a while. Pompey were utter **** and I honestly felt we'd killed them with that goal, the atmopshere and their players just died....and I felt this could be one hell of an historical day in our history, but Guly decides to wimp out in a derby and that's that. Based on that performance though we need to improve in the middle of the park, too many misplaced passes at times and it got a little too narrow (not enough natural width in the side). and for Pompey, what an horrendous team to watch.
