A former work colleague

I used to have a work colleague who would do next to nothing, but would claim he was excellent and that everyone/thing was against him. Despite the fact he did no work he would give himself lots of things to say at meetings (often the same thing each time) and would be very arrogant about how right he was on every issue, often calling people who didn't agree with him "stupid".

It turns out he was a tw at. But luckily he went away.

Was it almost as if he thought people really wanted to know about his life and that he was inwardly much more important in his own head than his existence actually suggested?

I think you have hit the nail on the head there. He used to think people cared about what he thought and did.

I think I know the sort. Would he have an opinion on everything and wish to publicly tell the world "how it was" yet when it was proved that the world "wasn't like that" then he simply gave short replies and decided the whole thing was now beyond discussion?

Yes, that does sound about right. He would also claim that he "wasn't being serious" and "it was just a joke, don't you realise" when things went against him.

What about blatant lies to prove his point? Maybe lies about knowing someone, as a friend, to help justify a point he was making?

Yes, he would often claim he had spoken to, or knew, several people he did not in order to make his point seem valid.

You can't.

You haven't been there 12 months ;)

I can, apparantly, although 12 months is the guideline, there are exceptions.

Basically, they are trying to move the office to Birmingham, but won't pay out redundancy ( not that it would be worth anything to me )

My target was doubled last month, with no notice, which I duely still got on with and hit.

They are now looking at not paying me the bonus I earnt.

They have also placed me on performace review, which means if I don't hit a target set this month, I will be sacked. ( the target is going up again this month )

So I have hit target every month and done what is expected of me, but they are placing me on a performance review.

This and lots of other smaller reasons amounts to constructive dismissal in my view, and on seeking advice, as it involved non-payment of bonus and setting unrealistic targets, can be made an exception.

Just waiting for the big-boss man to give me the all-clear to go home for another bout of 'gardening leave' . :-)

Stu, did you **** the bosses wife or something?

Or have you done something to upset someone above you?

Nah, all other sales staff from print advertising have been made redundant and their jobs re-deployed to Norwich and Birmingham in recent months, only 3 of us left here because we work in new media sales seperate to print, so I guess they want us gone too.

Not bothered about any pay-out, as long as I get a couple of weeks free holiday.

Gonna be a bit of a mission trying to find another job in this current climate though.

Haven't told the missus yet though and the mortgage goes up £200 a month this month. Woops, wish me luck. :-(

How?! The interest rates have only been moving in one direction in the last year, and it's not up...

end of fixed rate period. I guess.

Yup.

Hazarding a guess, I would say he has a mortgage in the region of £170k, maybe Interest Only on a rate in the region of 4.60% - 4.80%.

My mortgage is £135k, 4.89% repayment and the fixed rate comes to its end at the end of Nov. Im moving to a tracker rate .89% above BOE as when rates fall next year to between 3 and 3.5% as they are predicted to, I will fix it for a lengthy period then.

I just feel sorry for those whose rates ended around May - Aug time. Best fixed rates without £stupid set up fee's were about 6%! A lot of people fixed it for a long time thinking economic instability would push rates right up.
