SNSUN Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Would've rather had a draw in the Cardiff/Boro game, but a good win for Doncaster today. West Ham drag out a result again though, but we'll be top at Christmas barring a catastrophic defeat tomorrow. (Which won't happen. Touch Wood). Jordan Rhodes now 4 goals. alpine_saint Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Not the worst results in the world for us. Highly unlikely we lose the Xmas top spot now.
LGTL Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Possibly the least appealing set of Prem fixtures at 3pm today. And they didn't disappoint it seems, not many goals, not many surprising results, not much quality. Hopefully all saved up for a brilliant boxing day set of games. Football league show will be better than MOTD again tonight. I'd say those 3pm Prem fixtures are the worst set to be played together at any time in its history. That league could do with getting rid of a few noddy clubs.
Dr Who? Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Did not catch it on the radio, but we are hot favourites to sign a Peterborough or Coventry player.... any idea who?
Dr Who? Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Boro are nowhere near as good so I'm glad they won, Cardiff seem more likely to challenge so best to keep their points down. Glad West Ham were unimpressive. A 4-0 or 5-0 win could have really put the pressure on. Hopefully, barring a collapse ourselves it's top at Christmas. Everyone would have been surprised at that achievement I think. Cardiff are not all that, they will slump again at some point as Boro will muddle along around the top 3/4!! I'd imagine they're still on about the Cov player, Lukas.
VectisSaint Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Dunno Cardiff at home, Boro away for us yet to come. Boro's home form is very poor (although they draw most of their games W4 D6 L1), their away record is excellent. Cardiff's away record is average (W3). St Marco Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 At the start of december we were 9 points clear of 3rd place. Now only 2 points. Have to win tomorrow no excuses.
VectisSaint Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 True. We've been lucky the way we've played last few weeks that we are still top. Nothing lucky about it. We are top because we were so much better than everyone else (so far ahead) that even a mini slump (4 points from 4) has not allowed others to overtake. But we do need to get back to regular winning ways, preferably tomorrow.

Surely you must understand that to keep our early season form consistent would be nigh-on impossible for a club recently promoted from L1. Can't expect us to be that consistent in a competitive league like the Championship.
Window Cleaner Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 I see Doncaster beat Leicester today, 2 goals from Sharp, kept telling you all that with their new (and no doubt temporary) recruits Donny don't have a bad side at all. Now if we'd signed M-A Fortune to plug our wide right hole for a month or so it wouldn't have been such a bad thing. As for Beye.....far far better than any defender we have. S-Clarke Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 they were not top all season though...they also had dodgy results They lost their first 2 games IIRC, and didn't pull up massive trees until the final third of the season when they went on a terrific run to secure second. St Marco Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 they were not top all season though...they also had dodgy results Of course they did. But they actually only lost 4 away games all season. To match that record we would not be able to lose anymore away games. If we are serious about going up then we need to start picking up away wins. One win in nine away is not good enough no matter what league your in. A win tomorrow could/should really spur us on. A loss could be really really bad for not only the teams confidence but the fans too. That is why i say it is a must win not because of the rivalry or anything like that but because we need to get out of this away rut we find ourselves in. And what better place to do that then at the **** hole down the road.
NickG Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Norwich seemed to do alright didn't they? Yes, Norwich had an excellent start in the Championship, for a team just up from league 1. It set them up for automatic promotion. At Christmas, after 22 games they had 36 points. We will have 43, 44 or hopefully 46 - so maybe 10 points ahead of their total after only 22 games. I think you missed the point Nick....the point being that they were consistent home and away. Saying we don't need to match that is laughable. Norwich were 4th at xmas with 36 points as you say. But if you look at the OVERALL Points per game they had for the entire season 1.95 ppg. We currently have 2.05ppg. Let's assume we continue to lose the rest of the away games and win our home games. That would mean an additional 39 points from our home games and obviously none from our away. Meaning we would have a grand total of......82 points. If we put that into the table last year would see us 3rd and Norwich ahead of us. Again saying we don't need to match them or be close is not quite right is it. 13 home games left with 13 home wins on its own will not get us promoted. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 Out of interest, what did you make of Ched Evans? Seeing as we were kind of linked with him. Pretty lively, but to be honest (on this evidence anyway) none of the 22 I saw today would get anywhere near our 1st team.
31cc Posted 17 December, 2011 Share Posted 17 December, 2011 I was at the Cardiff Boro game today, I didn't think Cardiff were all that. Boro were much the better team, though their keeper was a bit 'Bart' today. We should finish above both of them - guess that puts them 18th and 19th
