If I'm honest, I don't really know what to make of Saints fans these days. When I first started going (70's & early 80's), most Saints fans were always up for it. Very vocal, quite aggressive and not backing down very often. Teams hated coming to the Dell and also respected us away from home. I truly believe that as a result, we got the team we deserved and they were successful. Passion equals success. These days a good number of Saints fans seem fairly quite and could be watching the telly, not watching a great team you'd kill for (not literally). I've done my bit for Saints and now its your turn to show the football world what you're made of. Being a Saints fan means many things but one thing it means equal to if not above all others, is to hate the Skates with a passion. So on Sunday, be loud, be aggressive and be proud to be a Saints fan till you die.

Reading this post just makes me realise how totally different people can be. Ive supported the saints now for I am shocked to say for around 50 years. Nothing clever about that just a numerical fact. I dont feel Ive "done my bit" I simply get great enjoyment out of supporting my home town club but never really felt I played any part in making my team succesful by my support. I am going to come out and say, I do not understand this hate thing we have to have about Portsmouth f.c. I know its going back to the real ill feeling during the docks strikes but come on I think we can get over that now. It seems really childish, but I am interested to know if any one else feels the same.

Any way I m just going to say it again, I dont hate pompey, dont think a lot about them. Definately want us to beat them but no more than any other time we play.

FFS. I don't know if you're really just having a laugh but...THE DOCKS STRIKE IS A F*CKING MYTH...made up years ago in a skate fanzine.

F*cking 'ell, how gullible are some people, the skates are notorious for making stuff up and it becoming fact on their little island in a blink of an eye.

Let's have a go...the reason we hate the skates is after that story years ago of a group of their fans vandalising a sheep up on Portsdown Hill. Even their own fans were disgusted, one of them even went as far as naming himself after the poor abused animal and often posts on here. He's called 'Corp Ho'. Fact.

You obviously don't realise the Docks strike thing is total b*llocks.Tell your friends.......please !!!!

The Southampton Corporate Union Members or whatever it was supposed to be was total made up b*llocks of course but TBF there was a lot of animosity built up between the two cities that had nothing to do with football and strike breaking was probably one of them.

Generations of my family have been dockers and they'll tell you it all b*llocks. The closest to any truth in all this is when Townsend Thoresen pulled out of Southampton when our dockers went on strike and moved took their business down the M27.

The 'docks strike' myth started when people started to question their irrational hatred to anything 'Southampton'. To justify it they invented this fairytale and peddled it as truth. First they said it happened early last century so it would be harder to prove otherwise, unfortunately someone pointed out that although Southampton was a commercial port with very militant union members, back then the p*rtsmyth was naval, so no unions and so no strikes were possible. So they've just reinvented it a few times but there's never been any evidence of the bullsh*t. But still trot it out at any opportunity.

I think if you research the animousity that a lot of the ill feeling does go back to naval and inter port disputes, but excusing my ignorance the point I am making is I do not have any animousity to Portsmouth football club and am just raising my head to see if I am alone in my feelings. I dont want to get into abuse with any one that feels the opposite...... what ever. I just do not get this requirement to show your "allegiance to the shirt" by all this machismo and what seems to me like purile hate filled abuse, to after all supporters that are our near neighbours and who after all exactly like us, loving their home town team.

No I really am not, I if I am not watching saints play am listening to them play, where ever I am in the world and it has been like that for more years than I care to think of. My last word on my, probably foolish post. I dont get all this hate, never have, feels a bit moronic, dont like it, dont get it but every one to their own I guess.

At St Marys it's like a Mexican wave affect *****il you hit either side of the northern or chapel ;) ), however from experience if you’re singing away and being quite vocal with people around you appearing to be asleep it creates a weird atmosphere and you end up retreating..

St.sj - football is a tribal sport, unlike any other. It's tribal nature is the essence of the game and its what makes for a great atmosphere. Its what makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and its what makes you shout your head off for ninety odd minutes. What your describing is rugby. Where people sit politely and clap with little emotional attachment. You've slept your way through the last 50 years. Wake up before its too late.

Feel free to come over and tell me on sunday, you know what coach i am on. xxx

I would love to, honestly... But it would be really difficult to really put across just what your opinion does to me.

Maybe we could just have that chat & cuddle you promised me. And we can be football friends. And we can scream at the skates that we are going to be really mean to them when we get home and on the Internetz. I can't wait, Sunday is going to be such a great day.

Sunday will be a great day. I just hope none of our fans embarass themselves by giving it large inside the ground and crying about it when it comes on top. That would be embarassing wouldn't it scotty.

On another note i dont understand these people who want to watch it in a pub, moan moan, cant get a beer, moan moan, treated like cattle. it's us v them FFS!! It's on BBC1 FFS!! Chance to show the world SFC has as good a support as anyone. Oh no, a lot would rather sit on their fat arses or singing songs at TV screen than actually be there looking at the whites of theirs eyes. At least you are not one of them Scotty son.

For your first part... Yawn. You really are tiresome at times.

As for your 2nd, I'm totally with you on that. If you have bottled it, don't bother with the excuses, just shut up and go hide in a pub in Southampton and spew venom at a tv. I have done 4 away games this year that I couldn't really afford because I was so desperate to get to this fixture and adamant that it would have nigh on every man and his dog wanting a ticket, bubble or not. Yet so many, even a few mates, have bottled it.

Granted, I don't really fancy being pushed and pulled around by a herd of over zealous police, being told how I'm going to get there, being told what time I'm going to leave, but if that's what it takes for the chance to go to Fratton and watch u's turn them over, in there own back yard then by golly what a feeble price to pay. Should Saints win tomorrow, us travelling will have a day we will never forget, and those watching in a pub in Southampton will have a day they will always regret as they bottled it and missed out.

Exactly this. Everyone that was there in 84 talk about it as one of their best days in their football lives. In 20 years time when people say who was at Fratton Park when we turned them over in 2011 we won't say "yeah i was but it was s*it, had to get the bus, couldn't get a beer, wish I'd not bothered moan moan moan" none of it matters.

I've been to every Saints game at Fratton Park including the fifties except the two Premier matches. I'm not going to this one. Even the 1984 FA Cup game I just drove down and went to the match then drove home with no bother. Now because some stupid prats have no idea how to behave we have the cattle truck convoy under escort, The tribal nonsense only really started in the eighties look where it has got us. I can't be bothered with that nonsense.

I know that you put a smiley in after mentioning the Chapel but, for clarity, I'll happily inform you that many of us in there have 'served our time' during the late 60s/early to mid 70s. Yes we're the 'old boys' now and we are obviously sensible (yes we were out of order many times as callow youths) as we have kids to mentor but we still 'hate the skates' with a passion. It's the heart controlling the head in this instance.

The chance to see us beat them at their place for the first time since the 80's makes any annoying travel arrangements completely irrelevant IMO. It's Portsmouth away FFS, everyone should be dying to go, now matter how awkward the OB are making it.

I will be shouting and swearing at the TV no doubt!! Unless my wife goes into labour, and then I will be off to the hospital!!

First one? Takes at least 15 hours, tell the selfish cow to cross her legs if she's that worried.

Congratulations, by the way:D
