Olympic GB football team: Lallana and Lambert?

Obviously with our red and white tinted glasses, is there a possibility we could see one of these in the GB squad after the FA have confirmed no players participating in EURO 2012 will not be allowed to play for team GB.

Who would you have?

I suppose Cork might be considered, but would need to shine in 2nd half of season. Are France participating? If so Spiderman may be involved. Both have represented their country at every level so far except full international, and are both 22 (I assume the u23 rule is at the start of this season).

Your allowed three over the age of 23, I was lead to believe.

Make that 2 then, Old Man Beckham will take the ball home if they don't let him be in the squad.

Only Cork has a realistic (and even then not very realistic) chance of being in the GB group.

It will be stuffed full of Scots and Welsh, 'bout time they'll only get into a major(?) international competition.

Possibly Lallana if he were still 23, as we know Pearce does seem to rate him. However he'll be 24 by then, so I can't see them using one of the three over 23 places on him. If we take for granted Beckham has one of them, I'd guess the other two would be from one of the other GB countries, possibly Charlie Adam & Giggsy (clubs/countries permitting!).

One of the 3 over-age players will almost certainly be a goal keeper. Its virtually standard practice to have experience between the sticks.

Have you not read or heard the news for the last 2 years the Scots Irish and Welsh will not be part of a GB team incase it erodes there own standing in FIFA as independent countries so the GB team will only contain English players

I don't think you're quite right there, it has been recently stated that Pearce will send out letters to players of all home nations that he considers desirable for his team. After that I think it's down to individual players whether they accept or not.The other Home Countries federations might not be all for the idea but that won't stop their players being invited to participate

Thats not true, they dont want the players to compete but will not stop them. A couple of Welsh players (I think Bale and Ramsey) have already been pictured in GB shirts and want to be picked.

I doubt there will be any jocks or NI players as they are just too crap.

To put a bit of meat on the bones of this one I had lunch with someone well placed in the footballing world today and he said that the FA had written to 300 players to see if they would be willing to play!!!!!!!!

Nothing like spreading your net wide!!!!!

Olympic football is a load of utter nonsense.
TBH I'd rather have a right old go at this than the second rate European Championships. I reckon it's got a lot more kudos than any of the continental titles, which is why the likes of Brazil and Argentina always field their strongest sides (age limits allowing).

Lallana should tell Pearce to poke it if he's offered - Pearce had the opportunity to pick him for England but instead went with a horrifyingly insipid midfield of Rose, Muamba, Rodwell, Henderson... Premier League nudgers and nurdlers... not one of them possess the kind of talent Lallana has. Plus, we could do with him being "fresh"

My concern is that if the FA , or the moron Pearce, are seeking squad members they will already have the England Euro 2012 team out of reach as they will be tired after all the in-fighting and humiliation of an early return from Euros. The Jocks, and other 'home' nations will declare it a 'no go' leaving a bit of scratching around to do.

So, looking for players, it will be easier to call up from the likes of Saints than others as they will not wish to upset the mancs,l/pool,Arse, etc by calling their precious players. Rickie Lambert aged 30,embodies the "true olympic spirit" etc to fill one place.

Surely as England are pretty good at football (top 10 in the world so I hear) and we have the best league in the world (arguably) and every other nation will be following the same rules as us, our set of players (once those above 23 and already involved in the Euro's are taken out of the equation) should in theory be just as good as or better than any other country entering this competition.

Therefore, our chances of winning the thing must be pretty decent.

I'm not a big fan of the Olympics personally btu I enjoy football, and would think that most people would be cheering on England and following our progress should be actually do ok and reach the final for example. There must be a lot of good players on the fringes of Prem teams and playing regular football in the Championship who are 23 and under, and as the Championship is probably of a comparable level with the mid-lower sections of many other countries top flight divisions, then I would agree with Junior Mullet that we'll do very well.

You do know that England aren't in the Olympics don't you?
