Sheaf Saint Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 The Spanish Francoists are banging the Nationalist drum ever louder. http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=24876 And hardening the resolve of the Gibraltarians for another generation. http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=24866 All very interesting dune, but what exactly does this have to do with the Greek economy? dune Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 All very interesting dune, but what exactly does this have to do with the Greek economy? Everything. If and when Greece leave the EURO, and reduce their debts by adding a few noughts to the Drachma, then Spain, Italy, Portugal etc will follow suit. The bureucrats talk about contagion, but their real fear is Greece's exit being a success. And therefore the beating of the Nationalist drum in Spain is a clear sign that Rajoy could well continue wit this tactic with much flag waving as they default and leave the EURO without warning. Spain is really in a mess even IF they tried to stay in, the Greek issue has made everyone re-look at what they are owed by the PIIGS - your local banks are owed over a Trillion across Europe,so when Spain tries to borrow more they are getting slaughtered at what are Ocean Finance Rates for Governments. Just a reminder that one of the UK's big banks is Spanish. Spansih Banks are wobbly, what could that mean to the average saver article. I've got a Santander current account (not through choice, I was with Alliance and Leicester who they took over)however I'm currently overdrawn so if they go bust it's their problem. I actually rang them up yesterday because i noticed that the charges to be applied were 20 quid (which is double the 10 quid going o/d used to be) so they've put that up pretty quickly obviously trying to call in their debts. After i'd explained that i'd not been informed of the rise she reduced it back to 10 for this month. I don't mind paying a tenner but 20 quid - fook that! According to Santander, their UK operation is insulated from events in Spain. People are protected up to £85K anyway, right?
Thedelldays Posted 4 June, 2012 Share Posted 4 June, 2012 It seems we are edging to Germany taking control of weaker nations. Just utterly mental really. Germany tore up Europe twice last century for dominance. It seems hell bent on doing so again but with different methods
