The respective sets of fans may be baying for this one but the players will be warned and will have to keep focused on the football. The outcome could go either way but Saints have taken their foot of the gas for a few games and there will be a change in formation. Pompey's players will know how important this match is to both sets of fans and will raise their game too. It should be a cracker. All we can hope is that the fans, unlike some people on the News threads, keep their cool and don't go looking for trouble. This could be the last local derby for a long, long time.

Well, at least they have one realist amongst all of the thickos. Regardless of the outcome of this match, it is only one match. With the possibility of points deducted for the Skates or even liquidation, there is also the possibility of either us being promoted, them being relegated, or indeed both simultaneously. Although not impossible that we both remain in this division next season, the likelihood will be that there is one, two or even more divisions separating us.

My favourite comments from here:

Agreed, Lambert's only effective when the opposition defenders get scared of him running at them and buckle. Rocha won't do that at all, he knows what they're like. Shut Lambert out enough times and he'll run out of ideas.

Their main threats will be Lambert, Gully and Lallana. Shut those three out, and you're pretty much home and dry as that's where the scum's drive comes from. Of course it'd be foolish just to focus on those three, but I get the feeling that if the rest of their team see those three struggling, then things will start unravelling for them.

My only regret is we don't have O'Hara any more, he loved battering them.

I think we're heading into an opportune moment to face them. Their charge at the top has stumbled (as I predicted it would) and they'll need to dig deep to get it back on track. Adkins strikes me as quite Cotterill-esque in that respect - get it right and everything's rosey and lasts, get it wrong and it all falls apart from the seams and takes him a worrying amount of time to fix. Chances are we're the one team he'd probably want to face the least right now, as it's clear they're not firing on all cylinders.

As long as the fortress gets back to the good old days (wish I was going but alas, money won't allow), and we get straight on the backs of their players and support ours with every voice we have, then I can see the BBC having a landmark game on their hands.

I'd love it if we turn out to be the final nail in the coffin of Scum's run to the top, and they start tumbling down the league after we maul them.

and

Lambert will be ineffective once Ricardo clogs him a couple of times , where`s Herman when you need him.

Hypo that poster pretty much sums up my feelings about how to stop us being effective; put two men on Lambert, one on Lallana and threaten Guly with a big of aggression and we don't really have the ability to get results. We've some talented players but when Lallana or Lambert have been out we've struggled. I'm cautiously optimistic we'll beat the skates on Sunday but am concerned. COYR!

I agree, I just love how easy he makes it sound. If that is so simple to do, why have more teams not managed it? Also to suggest that Lambert will be ineffective if he is knocked about a bit is nonsense. Lambert is big and physical and doesn't wilt under physical intimidation like some players might. To suggest that Adkins is cotterill-esque is ludicrous in the extreme.

So, let me get this right, if they can stop the League's top scorer, one of its most talented players, and the unpredictable bloke who occasionally scores a few goals himself, then they might have a chance of winning? Well duh. Though that would leave 7 other outfielders unmarked.

My favourite bit is the misconception that Lambert runs at players with the ball.

Well yeah Rickie looks like Maradona in his prime as he runs at terrified defenders with his pace and tricky ball skills..............
