Dan Harding and Kelvin Davis were sat close to me and there were two scouts from Cardiff City sat behind me making notes throughout. Listening to their discussion they were extremely impressed with Saints, as you would expect really given the scoreline and one sided nature of the game.

Were they wearing badges that said "Cardiff City Scouts"?

My guess is they were really from Arsenal in disguise.

Thanks for all the reports. Having watched the Man U game earlier this year I it is great to see the youngsters playing the same passing game as the 1st XI and looking comfortable on the ball.

Makes transition up through the ranks easier when they are used to the same style and approach to the game.

I went to this game have to say I was very impressed with the level our youngsters are at all very very comfortable on the ball Ward Prowse bossed the game & scored a cracker Sinclare looks very lively up front 2 good finishes.

They played some lovely stuff played out from the back switched the play quickly some very nice 1 touch pass & move at pace the 2nd goal was quality they pressed very high up the pitch it was good to watch the future looks bright in red & white

While there's no doubt that this is an impressive result, it's also worth bearing in mind that only three players from last year's final were in the Sheffield United side last night. Jordan Slew, their top scorer, was sold to Blackburn in the summer, and a number of the others have - perhaps a year or two early - been pushed into the first-team squad after they were relegated to League One.

That said, you can only beat what's in front of you, and 7-0 is a pretty rare scoreline even at that level. :toppa:

Steve

I think it is right to put a sense of perspective on this.

To win 7-0 against any side is going some but, as you say, Sheff Utd are not as strong as last year and suffered a few injuries before the game so weren't at their strongest

Would quite like to see us drawn against Pompey next round to test our full U18 side against their's rather than the weaker side we had to field in the recent 1-0 defeat

This is important IMO... it's a very real indication of the work that the club have been doing from top to bottom, to get the teams to play in a similar way, thus making any transition up to the reserve or first team squad that much easier.

It starts from the ages of 8 as I know someone involved, what a future we are going to have which I predict will be in full swing for everyone to see in 2014.

They beat Middlesbro last weekend so they're not too shoddy.

They were both wearing jackets with the Cardiff badge on, speaking with Welsh accents, making large amounts of notes and had lots of paperwork with them. I'm no policeman, but the clues started to stack up! ;)
Much too obvious a disguise to be real. Bet they threw a few "boyo's" in there for extra effect!!

Perhaps that is why Cortese is so keen, reputedly, to want to increase the stadium size.

Plans for the future are in motion ...

Highlights are now up on official Saints iPhone app. Looked a little damp. Negatives; Sheff United keeper let a couple of soft goals in and there were two deflected goals. Positives; the passing and movement looked fantastic, possibly helped by the slick surface, the confidence is already with this group of players, the goals kept tumbling in and our future looks fantastic.

I think it also shows that any young lad that is chosen to join the academy has a good chance to make it to the first team if they put in the effort and have the right attitude. That's got to help on the recruitment side for decent prospects and how many other teams can do that?

Thanks for the reports.

ah now, don't go taking the joy out of it, Steve. After all 7-0 is good - even if it was against Hythe U12 girls team. You spoil all the glamour of it.

Yes, good shout, I also think that Cortese is planning on expanding St Mary's as a result of a couple of good youth team results.

As I teach over 100 students now I've began to get a wider network for gossip etc now.

One guy claims his wife used to really know NC as she worked for him at St Mary's.

He claims that the money setup in the fund by Marcus is over 300m and will only be touched once we reach the Premiership.

Not sure on that one myself but who knows?

Could have been a lot worse. Bolton aren't exactly renowned for their youth system and are bottom of their academy league this season.

True, I said tough not worst possible draw :) They're away against a premier league team it's never going to be easy, there's also the mental aspect to consider they're kids after all.
