Pilchards Posted 12 December, 2011 Posted 12 December, 2011 Cheers MLG for that information, top class as usual.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 December, 2011 Author Posted 12 December, 2011 Any news on Lloyd Isgrove? He is too old to play for the under 18's.
Colinjb Posted 12 December, 2011 Posted 12 December, 2011 He is too old to play for the under 18's. A lad moving on, that's fair. I rate him, hope he breaks through soon.
Papa Shango Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Have written a report for tonight's game if anyone's interested: http://www.thesaintshub.com/saints7-0sheffieldunited.html. Very enjoyable night of football, James Ward-Prowse will be a star
trousers Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 James Ward-Prowse will be a star ^this Can't believe he doesn't secure a regular place on our bench yet...
LostBoys Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Well done the lads. I would like to have been able to get there in time
Give it to Ron Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Who is this McQueen? Not a name ive heard before. Local lad left Mountbatten school last year - source my lad who goes there he reckons he is quality,
ericofarabia Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Dan Harding and Kelvin Davis were sat close to me and there were two scouts from Cardiff City sat behind me making notes throughout. Listening to their discussion they were extremely impressed with Saints, as you would expect really given the scoreline and one sided nature of the game. Were they wearing badges that said "Cardiff City Scouts"? My guess is they were really from Arsenal in disguise. Thanks for all the reports. Having watched the Man U game earlier this year I it is great to see the youngsters playing the same passing game as the 1st XI and looking comfortable on the ball. Makes transition up through the ranks easier when they are used to the same style and approach to the game.
david in sweden Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Nil is another way of saying zero, so they didn't get any goals at all (i.e. Southampton got 7 goals, but Sheffield United got 0). thanksja willwill ..but I did know that. Perhaps my " late night humour " was a bit too much for you.
St_Tel49 Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 thanksja willwill ..but I did know that. Perhaps my " late night humour " was a bit too much for you. I think that his response may have been tongue in cheek too
West End Saint Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 I went to this game have to say I was very impressed with the level our youngsters are at all very very comfortable on the ball Ward Prowse bossed the game & scored a cracker Sinclare looks very lively up front 2 good finishes. They played some lovely stuff played out from the back switched the play quickly some very nice 1 touch pass & move at pace the 2nd goal was quality they pressed very high up the pitch it was good to watch the future looks bright in red & white
stevegrant Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 While there's no doubt that this is an impressive result, it's also worth bearing in mind that only three players from last year's final were in the Sheffield United side last night. Jordan Slew, their top scorer, was sold to Blackburn in the summer, and a number of the others have - perhaps a year or two early - been pushed into the first-team squad after they were relegated to League One. That said, you can only beat what's in front of you, and 7-0 is a pretty rare scoreline even at that level.
Danbert Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Respect to everyone who went along to support them and thanks for the info / report.

To win 7-0 against any side is going some but, as you say, Sheff Utd are not as strong as last year and suffered a few injuries before the game so weren't at their strongest Would quite like to see us drawn against Pompey next round to test our full U18 side against their's rather than the weaker side we had to field in the recent 1-0 defeat
Matthew Le God Posted 13 December, 2011 Author Posted 13 December, 2011 Were they wearing badges that said "Cardiff City Scouts"? They were both wearing jackets with the Cardiff badge on, speaking with Welsh accents, making large amounts of notes and had lots of paperwork with them. I'm no policeman, but the clues started to stack up!

It starts from the ages of 8 as I know someone involved, what a future we are going to have which I predict will be in full swing for everyone to see in 2014.
dellgirl Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Took my grandaughter and have to say it was a fantastic evening, they played so well that the evening was over in a flash, really impressed,no negatives and well worth the 70 mile round trip in nasty conditions. Well done Jason, well done the boys !

Perhaps that is why Cortese is so keen, reputedly, to want to increase the stadium size. Plans for the future are in motion ...
NY Saint Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Highlights are now up on official Saints iPhone app. Looked a little damp. Negatives; Sheff United keeper let a couple of soft goals in and there were two deflected goals. Positives; the passing and movement looked fantastic, possibly helped by the slick surface, the confidence is already with this group of players, the goals kept tumbling in and our future looks fantastic.

I think it also shows that any young lad that is chosen to join the academy has a good chance to make it to the first team if they put in the effort and have the right attitude. That's got to help on the recruitment side for decent prospects and how many other teams can do that? Thanks for the reports.
jawillwill Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 thanksja willwill ..but I did know that. Perhaps my " late night humour " was a bit too much for you. Sorry lol. I thought you were being serious.
Sour Mash Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Perhaps that is why Cortese is so keen, reputedly, to want to increase the stadium size. Plans for the future are in motion ... Yes, good shout, I also think that Cortese is planning on expanding St Mary's as a result of a couple of good youth team results.

After all 7-0 is good - even if it was against Hythe U12 girls team. You spoil all the glamour of it.
Pilchards Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Yes, good shout, I also think that Cortese is planning on expanding St Mary's as a result of a couple of good youth team results. As I teach over 100 students now I've began to get a wider network for gossip etc now. One guy claims his wife used to really know NC as she worked for him at St Mary's. He claims that the money setup in the fund by Marcus is over 300m and will only be touched once we reach the Premiership. Not sure on that one myself but who knows?

spyinthesky Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 I have heard from another source that Marcus's daughter has plans to sell the club as and when prem status is achieved as the vslue will be maximised Who knows?
Saintandy666 Posted 14 December, 2011 Posted 14 December, 2011 Pilchards was always pretty reliable. He wouldn't lie, though the originating source may be wrong.
Pilchards Posted 14 December, 2011 Posted 14 December, 2011 Pilchards was always pretty reliable. He wouldn't lie, though the originating source may be wrong. If anyone knows the history of Cortese's PA's then PM me as I will reveal her name to check it. Thanks.
Minty Posted 14 December, 2011 Posted 14 December, 2011 even if it was against Hythe U12 girls team. Oi, careful, I used to play for them. Oh, no, sorry, my mistake... I used to play LIKE them, that was it.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 14 December, 2011 Posted 14 December, 2011 Sounds like the master plan is coming to fruition very nicely indeed.
eelpie Posted 15 December, 2011 Posted 15 December, 2011 Yes, good shout, I also think that Cortese is planning on expanding St Mary's as a result of a couple of good youth team results. Yep. He'll need to expand the ground if only too find enough room for benches for our talented youth teams.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 December, 2011 Author Posted 16 December, 2011 Draw was done today for the next round. Saints are away to Bolton Wanderers in the 4th round.
farawaysaint Posted 16 December, 2011 Posted 16 December, 2011 Draw was done today for the next round. Saints are away to Bolton Wanderers in the 4th round. Tough draw, do us proud nippers!
Matthew Le God Posted 16 December, 2011 Author Posted 16 December, 2011 Tough draw Could have been a lot worse. Bolton aren't exactly renowned for their youth system and are bottom of their academy league this season.
farawaysaint Posted 16 December, 2011 Posted 16 December, 2011 Could have been a lot worse. Bolton aren't exactly renowned for their youth system and are bottom of their academy league this season. True, I said tough not worst possible draw They're away against a premier league team it's never going to be easy, there's also the mental aspect to consider they're kids after all.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 16 December, 2011 Posted 16 December, 2011 Excellent - I'll be going to that game.

Pilchards Posted 16 December, 2011 Posted 16 December, 2011 The two top dogs play each other Derby vs Man yoo according to a website I saw. Should win this!
ericofarabia Posted 16 December, 2011 Posted 16 December, 2011 Excellent - I'll be going to that game. Depending on exactly when they play it I might be back in UK and in that neck of the woods ... I may well be there as well.
