DT Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 It makes my blood boil when Spurs fans sing 'Oh when the Spurs go marching in'. I mean, how unoriginal can you get. North London oiks. Does anyone get quite as upset as me on this? We should sue...

Ewell Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 The only thing that annoys me about it is they do it better than us. We still have mongs who don't get it and want to speed it up to the 200mph version.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Spurs song used to be sung to the tune of John Brown's body. Don't know why they've changed.
Golden Balls Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Seems most clubs are singing it now. Liverpool, Stoke, Chelsea, QPR, Wolves, Bolton, Swansea and even Leicesetr tried singing it when we played them. Where we've been out of the top flight for a while, its lost its identity of being our song.
Sour Mash Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Both Spurs and Stoke (and others) sing it better than us. Now thats annoying.
Appy Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 As above, the fact that they sing it better than we do is annoying.
dune Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 We sing it too fast AND too slow. I dislike the really slow version with a passion. What's wrong with the traditional speed as played by the RLI aka "the Saints"?
beatlesaint Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Its not that many years ago it was sung at the right speed - whats so difficult about it ? The slow version is like a funeral march, the fast is manic.......and yes it does annoy me that Spurs sing it. The only thing Lowe got right - North London yobbos !! dune Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Its not that many years ago it was sung at the right speed - whats so difficult about it ? God knows. I dont bother singing it anymore because of the planks who sing it too fast or too slow.
Orange Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Slow version sounds great when lots of people are singing it. When its just a few trying to start it up it sounds terrible.
krissyboy31 Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 God knows. I dont bother singing it anymore because of the planks who sing it too fast or too slow. We used to sing it at the correct tempo at the Dell because it's a march (NOT a funeral march) and the fans in the upper stands (both East and West) used to stamp their feet on the wooden floorboards like a metronome. We still have the metronome but it's the Northam backrowers banging the backboards at 200 miles an hour.
latter day saint Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 God knows. I dont bother singing it anymore because of the planks who sing it too fast or too slow. thats not helping.we need more people to be determined to sing at the correct speed to educate the others, not set there mumbling their disgust under their breath. Wes Tender Posted 11 December, 2011 Share Posted 11 December, 2011 Well, when we play them next season, it will give our players a lift to hear the Spurs support singing along with us to gee them up. It will be just like us singing Pay up Pompey when we play the Skates.
John B Posted 12 December, 2011 Share Posted 12 December, 2011 Spurs have been singing for over 50 years especially in Europe There is even a book relating to it And the Spurs Go Marching on: Official Centenary History of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (ISBN 10: 0600346641 / ISBN 13: 9780600346647 ) Phil Soar
DT Posted 12 December, 2011 Author Share Posted 12 December, 2011 wikipedia: This tune and often the words are often used as a popular theme or rallying song for a number of sports teams (see When The Saints Go Marching In in sport). It is the main anthem of Southampton F.C., St Kilda Football Club, St George Illawarra Dragons and the St Helens RLFC That is, the SAINTS go marching in. Not the bloody Spurs. They can go and cry about it if they like. Must be all the Saints players they've bought over the years...
Turkish Posted 12 December, 2011 Share Posted 12 December, 2011 This is an outrage and i think we should send a strongly worded email to Cortese to get other clubs banned from singing it. Pointless things to moan about number 348932.

But Spurs fans have sung 'Marching In' for many many years. And btw OP, it was the Stoke fans who were singing it so well and loud on the tv this weekend, not the away Spurs fans. charlie saint Posted 12 December, 2011 Share Posted 12 December, 2011 For what it's worth, I know that some Spurs fans get upset because so many other clubs have 'stolen' their song (Glory glory Man United... um, I mean Tottenham Hotspur). Which ever club it was who orginally had 'Oh Southampton, Oh Southampton FC - etc' must be really angry. Also, for what it's worth - I thought it was A Thing now, singing your visitors' songs back at them but much louder, to kind of let them know their place (probably wouldn't work with Gillingham, no-one but them knows the words to Englebert Humperdink's 'The Last Waltz')
