When Chappers is back surely he fulfills that role.....having said that not sure how long he is out for.

Yep he does, but the prob is he's not fit. We need similar quality players in the squad so we don't fall away performance wise when 1 player gets injured.

I thought Chappers has been at his most dynamic for us down the flanks, actually - So I eluded to Cork/Morgan/Deano as being the players not having the goal scoring touch as centre-mid's.

Let's not forget...we were at our best this season when Chaplow wasn't even in the team. Don't get me wrong he was absolutely superb once he came into the side, but with the Guly/Lallana/Rickie/Connolly combination working so well, Chaplow was just our 4th choice CM.

That just shows what competition can do for a player. I'd like to see a better reserve goalkeeper so that Kelvin practiced catching long range dipping shots a bit more... ;)

Kind of agree with Adrian, I don't think short-term players is what we're after. He'd be terrific at this level, no doubts about that, but he'd go in the end - we won't be able to keep him for ever, just 3 months.....when possibly you'd be better placed putting the loan fee and the 3 months wages towards a long-term option.

Because those 3 months will not come cheap.

What do people reckon to Lewis McGugan as a goal threat through the middle? Apparently Forest are considering selling him to raise some funds and although he has gone off the boil a little this year, he clearly has something about him.

He'd be excellent, can also play out wide right and has a bit of pace - so perfect really.

He has a bit of an attitude problem though, but clearly has talent.

You could only have him for two (?) I think becuase of his US commitments, so it gets around the whole kissing badge here forever nonsense....

he's a class act, great touch, ability on the ball and just the sort of talent that would give Adkins options. Not sure where you'd play him. Like Lallana did, he'd have to find a wide role really, but I think he prefers playing in the hole. Form wise, he was dropped earlier in the season and many Forest fans couldn't understand why. Since returning to the side he has been very hit and miss. Needs a move.

He's chased money. How many signing on fees does one man need? Thought his effort levels looked appalling at West Ham, and his finishing. Didn't look half the player second spell at Spurs, struggled at Liverpool, so when is the last time he did well here? I don't think he'd go to the championship anyway. Seems villa want him.

Brilliant international record, can't fault him for that, but I think it's because he loves playing for Ireland and it's one team he's never been able to leave! Wolves, Coventry, Inter, Leeds, Spurs, Liverpool, West Ham, Galaxy...have I missed any?

Spurs again and Celtic

lol at someone thinking that we have a chance of signing Holliet !!

Yep, that's unrealistic actually, I'll give you that one. Although I'd have said going after one of Blackburn's better players is distinctly 'underwhelming' when compared to Owen, Shakira and half the other silly rumours I've read on here.

What about Jelavic ? Ambitious yes but apparantly being sought by liecster and WHU would be a class act

Speaking of SPL strikers, what about Kris Boyd? Terminated his contract with the Turkish side he signed for as they did not pay him so he would be a free agent. Didn't fare to well at Boro, but scored 6 in 10 on loan at Forest last season.

So here's the latest bijou from L'Equipe concerning Maynard, isn't it strange that a French paper, albeit dedicated entirely to sport, knows more about what's going on than the Tabloids cos L'Equipe is rarely wrong,by the way apparently Onze was talking about Lee weeks ago .

Anyway back to Maynard. Cheapskate Wolves had apparently offered about 1 million £ for Maynard and quite understandably Brizzle have told them to f*ck off,so Wolves are now running after Piquionne who I guess they see as a cheap option and Maynard is still available.

Heard a whisper that Maynard wants a 1 million signing on fee which is why we were put off the deal.

It's what he'll certainly get in the summer, clubs will queue up to give him that. Thing is Brizzle want money for him now as well so I guess clubs are just offering them their valuation less Maynard's demands.May still be with Bristol until the summer, cos 4 months isn't very long to wait for a million quid.

Unless in those four months you get a serious injury.

I understand we have enquired about Gary Hooper. Obvious connection from S****horpe days. But he is happy there and probably wont move

Im pretty sure on the BBC gossip column it was stated that he had turned down offers from the premier league (Sunderland?) to fight for his place at Celtic so I imagine it would be unlikely that we would get him, although it would be fantastic if we did!

more likely his money-grubbing agent has convinced him he's worth it ! No thanks !

And so he is, if he was worth 5+£ million last summer (debateable) and he's available in 4 months time for zilch he's obviously got to cash in a bit. What would be the problem as far as I see it is that Bristol City won't accept that their player will be totally worthless to them in a few months and are probably holding out for far too much. I mean if Maynard was available right now for just a million £ signing on fee and a comparable wage wouldn't you be amongst the first in line if you were a football manager.

1 million £ is nothing in todays football, not for a decent player on a freebie.

I'd love a decent keeper signed but can't think of any. Far easier signing to make when you're top flight. I'd rather it wasn't 'one for the future' either. Keepers can play til 40, so someone over 30 would be sensible, IMO. I like Kelvin, it's hard not to after all he's been through with the club, but he just has too many weaknesses. People seem to forget them or argue against it when he plays well and makes good saves, but he's always done that, and the weaknesses remain.

If Blackburn go down I think we could do worse than Paul Robinson, still a good keeper with a huge amount of top flight experience and England caps.

Perfect signing for me in this position would be Fraser Forster (At Celtic, on loan from Newcastle) great height, great ability, young too with potential to play even better than he currently is... which i would dare to say is better than Davis at present (definately based on the last old firm game) i'm sure newcastle wouldnt be too sorry to see him go when they have Tim Krul on their books and harper ahead of him! If not now(obviously he's still at Celtic) then i'd get him when we go up, as Kelvin will surely only have a couple more years at the top level in him, unless he really pulls something outta the bag, which he's more than capable of!!

Let's face it,we have absolutely ZERO chance of getting any player on loan from Newcastle and they have next to no chance of buying any of our players. Looked at them for about half and hour yesterday and I'd have to admit that AP is doing a decent job there. He's signed some decent players for not so much money and has them playing decent football.Mind you Man U...what a joke.

I heard the same about the Jemal deal, that right at the end, either the agent or the player wanted a big dollop of cash..... No idea wether it is true or not, but prior to that the deal was supposed to have been all agreed, with a green light

Yep. His place is not an issue - is a hero with the supporters. He has a new agent and apparently the new guy is seeking a much better contract at Celtic for him.

Bet the same thing happened, Gemmel. Makes sense why it suddenly went dead. I reckon we could go back further to that mysterious Elliott Ward deal as well.

Just in from Ewan Murray of the Guardian:

"Southampton interest in Kris Commons but no more than an inquiry so far. Intriguingly, Rickie Lambert just the sort of striker Celtic want.."

UPDATE:

"I'm well aware of Lambert value to Saints, of course. Commons had great value to Celtic not so long ago, sharp fall from grace"
