Mr Saints Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 All credibility in that article was lost when they stated his release clause as that. It's £3m, confirmed by their chairman. Apparently it is in fact 1.85 mil, according to Talksport anyway .
Chez Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Perhaps we could sign McCarthy their young GK as well then.Reading could still win this league. They aren't going to sell anyone near their first team squad in the window. No chance.
supersonic Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 oh god no not Kebe, anyone but Kebe. Awful player, no better than what we have. Reading fans I know would be pleased to see him leave. More luck than judgement. Would rather have Puncheon than Kebe
DrunkenSaint Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Sordell (watford) and Butterfield (Barnsley) both young and scores goals and Butterfield can play anywhere in the midfield would be great and will give us plenty of new options. CWD Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I've just written this on the Lee thread, but for £1.85mil, Sharp is a steal. Lambert, as a proven league 1 striker, cost us a million. Surely we can't miss the opportunity to buy a proven NPC striker for less than 2 mil? I also think, like Lambert, he will gain fitness, lose a bit of weight and generally become a better all round player with us, so that he may be ready for the PL should we get there this year. I agree, I think Sharp is a decent player at that fee if it's true. I cannot see it happening though because we decided in the summer it wasn't for us, and he also decided the same - our current management don't seem the sort to backtrack on decisions. I think we'll end up seeing this Japan guy sign, as well as the guy currently on loan at Wycombe from Fulham (Trotta). Wide right is also an area that needs strengthening, but we could kill two positions by buying a general attacking midfeidler who can play central and score goals, and also provide pace and guile down the flank if required. Without chaplow we are painful in the middle of the park, no penetration or dynamism at all.

We got out of league one by buying the best players in that league and some from a league above. It looks like we need to do the same again, its not a time to take such a risk, in the summer maybe but not now.

hypochondriac Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I think we will sign a keeper and he wont be back up to SKD, he'll be signed to challenge for a starting place. You mean like Harding is meant to challenge fox? Butterfield challenging Richardson? Lambert is challenged by? Fonte? Jos? We have a number of decent players but lets not pretend that we don't have first team starters who will play in the majority of games when fit, because we do. In pretty much every team in the country there is a first team goalkeeper. Or do you think that the likes of Joe Hart are competing every week with for a starting place? aintforever Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Yet without Chaplow early season and many times last season we were brilliant. I like him, he's been great, but I don't buy this simplistic explanation of the loss in form just being his absence. Just seems to be setting it up with disappointment when he comes back and isn't Messi. I disagree, one player can make a big difference. Chaplow gave us great balance. EBS1980 Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 If we go down the loan route, i'd love us to sign Michael Kightly from Wolves, who is currently doing well at Watford. Chez Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 Corluka of spurs was at the west ham game yesterday. If they get him on loan they really are going for it IMO I know the Championship is way below the standard of the Premiership, but every time I see Corluka play at fullback he looks the slowest laziest waste of space so don't see him as anything special. david in sweden Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 I bet we sign a keeper though, me too on that one, Window Cleaner. Bart out on loan meantime. BUT it's TWO strikers I'm after. I know we've lost Lambert for3 games, thankfully it's not an injury, but Connolly has only just finished his first 90 minutes since the game at Derby (Oct.15th) ...Barnard has disappeared into the history book (at least for this season..) that makes Jonno Quick our only established striker. Still think ONLY one is enough ? I do hope NA doesn't use the option of using Schneiderlin as a second striker....one goal every three seasons doen't exude confidence in me, anyway. .
