Mr Saints Posted 1 January, 2012 Posted 1 January, 2012 All credibility in that article was lost when they stated his release clause as that. It's £3m, confirmed by their chairman. Apparently it is in fact 1.85 mil, according to Talksport anyway .
Chez Posted 1 January, 2012 Posted 1 January, 2012 Perhaps we could sign McCarthy their young GK as well then.Reading could still win this league. They aren't going to sell anyone near their first team squad in the window. No chance.
supersonic Posted 1 January, 2012 Posted 1 January, 2012 oh god no not Kebe, anyone but Kebe. Awful player, no better than what we have. Reading fans I know would be pleased to see him leave. More luck than judgement. Would rather have Puncheon than Kebe
DrunkenSaint Posted 1 January, 2012 Posted 1 January, 2012 Sordell (watford) and Butterfield (Barnsley) both young and scores goals and Butterfield can play anywhere in the midfield would be great and will give us plenty of new options.

SB Posted 2 January, 2012 Author Posted 2 January, 2012 I will reserve my knee jerk reaction feelings, however the end of January will show how much desire, funding and ambition is at this football club.
CWD Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 I've just written this on the Lee thread, but for £1.85mil, Sharp is a steal. Lambert, as a proven league 1 striker, cost us a million. Surely we can't miss the opportunity to buy a proven NPC striker for less than 2 mil? I also think, like Lambert, he will gain fitness, lose a bit of weight and generally become a better all round player with us, so that he may be ready for the PL should we get there this year.

I agree, I think Sharp is a decent player at that fee if it's true. I cannot see it happening though because we decided in the summer it wasn't for us, and he also decided the same - our current management don't seem the sort to backtrack on decisions. I think we'll end up seeing this Japan guy sign, as well as the guy currently on loan at Wycombe from Fulham (Trotta). Wide right is also an area that needs strengthening, but we could kill two positions by buying a general attacking midfeidler who can play central and score goals, and also provide pace and guile down the flank if required. Without chaplow we are painful in the middle of the park, no penetration or dynamism at all.

We got out of league one by buying the best players in that league and some from a league above. It looks like we need to do the same again, its not a time to take such a risk, in the summer maybe but not now.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Priority number 1 a new keeper Priority number 2 a new striker Priority number 3 a new central defender .... Priority number 447 ....A purple booted Japanse winger/striker
hypochondriac Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Why do you keep posting about a new keeper? That is nowhere near the top priority.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Why do you keep posting about a new keeper? That is nowhere near the top priority. Of course it is, we are losing points by the shovel-load from goalkeeper error.
hypochondriac Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Of course it is, we are losing points by the shovel-load from goalkeeper error. Yet we have gained points thanks to the brilliance of Kelvin. The keeper does not need replacing and certainly not in January.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Yet we have gained points thanks to the brilliance of Kelvin. The keeper does not need replacing and certainly not in January. I bet we sign a keeper though,
hypochondriac Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 I bet we sign a keeper though, I don't think we will but if we do, it will be for backup to Kelvin. It certainly won't be the top priority.

Gingeletiss Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 I think we will sign a keeper and he wont be back up to SKD, he'll be signed to challenge for a starting place. Hypo's obsessed with backups, but what we need, are better than what we have now.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 A new keeper you are joking ??? he made the save in the first place, our defenders were not in sight!!!!
hypochondriac Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 I think we will sign a keeper and he wont be back up to SKD, he'll be signed to challenge for a starting place. You mean like Harding is meant to challenge fox? Butterfield challenging Richardson? Lambert is challenged by? Fonte? Jos? We have a number of decent players but lets not pretend that we don't have first team starters who will play in the majority of games when fit, because we do. In pretty much every team in the country there is a first team goalkeeper. Or do you think that the likes of Joe Hart are competing every week with for a starting place?
hypochondriac Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Hypo's obsessed with backups, but what we need, are better than what we have now. I wonder what percentage of your posts contain a reference to me? Pretty tragic.
aintforever Posted 2 January, 2012 Posted 2 January, 2012 Yet without Chaplow early season and many times last season we were brilliant. I like him, he's been great, but I don't buy this simplistic explanation of the loss in form just being his absence. Just seems to be setting it up with disappointment when he comes back and isn't Messi. I disagree, one player can make a big difference. Chaplow gave us great balance.
EBS1980 Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Corluka of spurs was at the west ham game yesterday. If they get him on loan they really are going for it IMO
St.Patrik Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Here is the list of all PL players that are out of contract in the summer : http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2012/01/03/2828150/premier-league-bosman-list-didier-drogba-all-the-players
EBS1980 Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 If we go down the loan route, i'd love us to sign Michael Kightly from Wolves, who is currently doing well at Watford. Wide player as we need, although i guess if he is to stay out on loan he will stay with Watford.
Chez Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Corluka of spurs was at the west ham game yesterday. If they get him on loan they really are going for it IMO I know the Championship is way below the standard of the Premiership, but every time I see Corluka play at fullback he looks the slowest laziest waste of space so don't see him as anything special. Maybe he's better at CB?

david in sweden Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 I bet we sign a keeper though, me too on that one, Window Cleaner. Bart out on loan meantime. BUT it's TWO strikers I'm after. I know we've lost Lambert for3 games, thankfully it's not an injury, but Connolly has only just finished his first 90 minutes since the game at Derby (Oct.15th) ...Barnard has disappeared into the history book (at least for this season..) that makes Jonno Quick our only established striker. Still think ONLY one is enough ? I do hope NA doesn't use the option of using Schneiderlin as a second striker....one goal every three seasons doen't exude confidence in me, anyway. .
EBS1980 Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Heard #PNE striker Jamie Proctor is being tracked by #Sunderland and #Southampton. Retweeted by Fourth Official
Crazy Diamond Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 We were linked with Jacob Butterfield not so long ago - he's now out injured for the rest of the season.
SuperSAINT Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 We were linked with Jacob Butterfield not so long ago - he's now out injured for the rest of the season. He'll be available for free in the summer then, I assume?
Crazy Diamond Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 He'll be available for free in the summer then, I assume? Not sure, though I do know that Villa were really keen on him.
SuperSAINT Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Not sure, though I do know that Villa were really keen on him. Read that too. Pretty sure he's out of contract in the summer. Could be wrong though.
Saint Charlie Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Linked to Andrew Driver and Jamie Proctor by journalists on Twitter.
SuperSAINT Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Would rather Butterfield than Kebe, seems more composed. Different players though, aren't they? Kebe's a proper out-and-out winger. Thought Butterfield more of a central play-maker.
Crazy Diamond Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Kebe? No thanks. Reading would want a good few million for him wouldn't they?

Trouble is all three are stuck in relegation battles and I doubt their parent clubs would be willing to let them go in January.

Lighthouse Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 and nor would they come Why? They are looking likely candidates for relegation, whereas we are top of the Championship. Ambitious maybe, but realistic.

Ambitious maybe, but realistic. why would they come and play in the NPC when they can stay where they are and play (and shine in their teams) in the premier league..?
Saint Charlie Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Jacob Butterfield is out for the season with a cruciate knee injury.
beavis17 Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 I'm still holding out a tiny hope that Chelsea splash out on a couple of strikers so we can get Lukaku on loan.
Saint Garrett Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 lol at someone thinking that we have a chance of signing Holliet !!

There were stories linking us with Driver a month or so back, and in the summer. Possibly some mileage. Decent winger.
S-Clarke Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Jacob Butterfield is out for the season with a cruciate knee injury. what a bummer, was hoping we'd get him as he's that goal threat from the middle we lack atm.
SuperSAINT Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 what a bummer, was hoping we'd get him as he's that goal threat from the middle we lack atm. Agree 100%. Never hurts to have a goal scoring/goal creating centre-mid in the squad.
