The official unofficial January transfer targets thread..

Did very well on loan at Cheltenham.

I'm not sure we could sign him now, but if Brum don't go up and they are struggling for cash then a summer bid should be made.

agreed, but an eleventh hour bid in January might work if all the other players they are trying to shift don't happen.

Totally agree, any deals need to be done asap! Anything on last day would be desperate and would mean we havent got our main target!

But its normally a jigsaw puzzle isn't it...one club won't release a player until they have a replacement.....its normally one desperate club that starts it and we are not desperate yet.

Ummmm! where did AOC play, remind me?

we are not talking about the same product.

AOC is a developing teenage talent, and in the long run even £12 mill.may seem like a steal for Arsenal bearing in mind what they are used to paying for their "stars".

Rhodes has been good -even very good, for one and a half seasons in L1 - BUT he's still there . If he was SO good why hasn't he gone before?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good player - and I think he'd be a good buy for us - but not at £8 million ! NEVER !

still when he eventually goes (somewhere) we'll see...eh?

Nothing, just getting into internet slapfights with people who point out that he was wrong about some stuff in the summer.

TBF no-one has suggested that he is the big ITN.). It takes a lot of small ends to be tied before a deal is actually done.

Over the years, we've seen a lot of verbal agreements disappear into thin air before the pen hits paper.

I just hope we get on and secure our target(s) early and dont poove around until 6mins before the window closes a la Rupert Lowe.

Agreed we fannied around all summer and ended up missing some key targets. We need to be more decisive and aggressive. I said it before and i'll say it again, we need to take a leaf out of Norwich City's book when it comes to being decisive in the transfer market. They were done and dusted by July while we were still faffing about.

I would like simple answers to these questions:

1. How did we 'fanny around'? In what way?

2. How should we be more 'decisive and aggressive'? Tell Bristol City to lower their ridiculous asking price for Maynard? Hold a gun to Billy Sharp's head to convince him he really should move? Ignore Fontaine's failed medical? Hope he doesn't end up like Delgado?

In the absence of any semi-reasonable responses to the above I will take your silence as conclusive evidence of the total invalidity of your 'arguments', and the fact that you are simply a wind-up merchant.

In that case how come Norwich did act decisively both ths summer and the summer before. If maynard was too expensive, Sharpe never lkely to move and Fontaine have a dodgy knee then we were going for either the wrong players or the one we were not prepared to afford. Smacks of bad planning and lack of decisiveness. Also, we left the signing of these players to very late so we could not then move on others when they went wrong !

There's the evidence mate, so put that in your pipe and smoke t !

But those aren't answers to my questions, are they? And, by your logic, we should go for players and, if we can't get them, go for other players who, by definition, must be second choice and therefore inferior. How is that decisive? Your proposal simply advocates the Lowe approach you roundly criticised in one of your earlier posts on this thread: lots of substandard players rather than a few quality players.

Pipe on standby; will await proper answers to my original questions.

If saints have definite targets I have a feeling there won't be any pussy footing around while there are points to be won or lost. If we have serious intentions of going up this season then I have a feeling the main signing will be in the bag before the 3rd round of the FA cup is played.

Nothing to back up my hunch, but I think you may well end up being right......

No, we go for our first choice, but would it not be wise to have GOOD alternatives as well ? , who may be of the same standard and make sure that acting early we still have time to check them out and sign them.

Seems to have worked for Norwich don't you think. Now light up your pipe !

Christmas 2010 Norwich, 5 place. 36 points. 8 points behind QPR, 4 points behind Cardiff in 2nd/

Christmas 2011 Saints, 1st place, 44 points, 3 points clear of 3rd.

We have started the season much better than Norwich did last season.

Perhaps they should have used our pre-season and transfer's timings policy?

Good grief, you're all still biting on Dalek's troll posts. :|

I can't believe the number of people who still try and construct a coherant argument with him when it has been apparent for years he is a complete retard. THERE IS NO POINT TELLING HIM HE IS WRONG. HE KNOWS!!!! He's just pretending to think these stupid opinions so he can pass away the time with endless pointless arguments. Put him on your ignore list and don't respond to his posts. It's that easy.

you do realise that Norwich continued to sign players on loan throughout the season. Shouldn't they have sorted everything out on the first day of the two windows? Seems like really poor planning to need to constantly bring in additional players.

If the right player at the right priced is not available then no signing should be made just to appease little cry baby fans. The squad IS big enough. It might not be good enough, we'll see about that, but the financial stability of the club is paramount and bringing in a host of average players on high wages ****s that up.

Bring in players only if they improve the side. If we have to wait till the 11th hour to get that man, then that's fine with me.

My Burnley oppo has just got back to me and I quote. "The club have head nowt from your lot since your visit but anyway, we've heard you've got Sharpe so you're not having our lad as well you shandy drinking southerners".

Make of that what you will.

I would imagine, no matter how hard we try to keep deals quiet, the football world will get wind of impending deals before they're announced as chairmen, managers et al probably all talk to each other. Here's hoping this news is true because I think Sharp would be the perfect foil for Lambert. Is there an "oppo" you could ask at Donny who could confirm this?? ;)

Diouf has signed an 18 month contract at Donny, they've also signed another striker and a winger/striker on loan till the end of the season. Preparing to sell Sharp I wonder?

Their chairman was whoring him out in the press last week. He'll definitely go, just hope it's down here. Great striker.
