Really hope we are about to address our long-term goalkeeping problem. Someone solid and reliable please.

It would be really interesting to do a study on the use of the forum from a psychology point of view - the need to appear ITK even though you're clearly not, the quick switch from mild opinion to full-on textual assault, the humour, the profile of the users etc - I expect someone is working their way through a full PhD thesis on it as I write - OMG this might even become part of it (in which case I said it first before anyone else heard about it and everyone else is a moron, COYS, HTH, FACT, His Nun CDAJFU if seen at Costas, when's Skatchel signing, WHP, Wer'e going up, Were going down, were going to 17th place, LOL etc)

Don't know if something is happening or not??

@jordansibley: This crazy world of football never fails to amaze me!

Celtic rejected another bid for Hooper perhaps?

Nah....can't be that because we would never go in with another bid, would we....

Appart from Lallana, Falque, Holmes, De Ridder and Fox there is litterally nobody who can play there.

Or Chaplow. Is it me or does no-one else believe that his absence since beginning December is the key reason we are not putting sides under pressure in MF and getting results? He was definitely doing a brilliant job in MF (L/C/R) before he got injured.

Sibley always drops little titbits like that, but generally it could mean anything.

from the basis of the reports last night about Puncheon, it could be that the PFA have sided with Puncheon and are not agreeing to the fine?

wouldn't surprise me, some industrial tribunals might see it as a case of restriction of trade.

What's the point? If true, why are we wasting our time with these targets?

True, why should we be ambitious and try and get players that will improve our team. Let's think like you and try and sign mediocre players that won't improve our first team, pointless transfers if you will.

I'm glad our team show a lot more ambition and backbone than a lot of our fans.

When asked about saints news, a sky reporter wrote

@gregvul I understand there could be some Saints news today...

I guess the likely news if we get some today is Lee being formally unveiled by the club, but you never know...

Sibley is an attention seeker, why bother putting it there? He's the clubs spokesman why not just write official news or not bother.

Let's be fair here, it is understandable that he tweets something like he has today when something out of the blue happens that is to be announced later. I mean, just imagine if it was something like Lee coming over here and then rejecting us after all this time. That would come under a "crazy world" never ceasing to amaze.

I do see where you are coming from but on Monday night Nigel was actually struggling to get 11 fit players that are good enough on the pitch so that's different. To get players as good as Lallana, Lambert, Fonte and Chaplow would cost a lot of money but we'll need to do instead is to pick up some good players that have gone a bit off colour, like McGugan has at Forest, that we can re-invigorate and sell on for big money. We've got a history of doing that too - Lawrie was great at it, Dean Richards, Beattie was stuck in Blackburn reserves etc. We also might have to look at players with potential - Daniel Powell at MK for example - that we can develop if our top targets are too pricey.

I don't want the club to spend money we don't have either. So we need to go for players that we can develop or rehabilitate and Nigel is a manager capable of doing that if he's given the freedom to buy who he needs within an agreed and affordable budget. What we can't do is pitch up at any NPC game with an first XI and bench like that again - we'll get stuffed 7-0 next time, most League 1 sides would have battered us too.

Punchon is like a new signing really! Never thought i'd see him back in the team, but on Monday I thought we needed someone like Puncheon out there - someone who has the confidence to take on and run at the oppo.

IMO Punch would get into most teams in this league, so we've done well to get him to do a u-turn and issue an apology like this.

What a fantastic Transfer window. An international striker, OK, none of us have seen him play, but he did score a goal in an international match. OK, so it was against Australia, and OK it was a year ago, but we can be confident he'll be great because we've been told he is exciting. And then there is the Spanish u-21 international. Came here raring to go and immediately impressed the manager in training. OK, so it is only a loan, and OK, he was anonymous in the Leicester game, and OK so he was subbed, but he'll be great! And then we've got Puncheon back. OK, so no one else wanted him, but never mind, he'll be OK. And then we've got all these players coming back from injury or suspension. Its like signing half a new team. OK, so the manager did say he wanted to sign two or three new players of quality and maybe we haven't, but we are second in the league so whats the need? A great transfer window, best since last summer.

We have tried for Hooper and its not happened because Celtic will only sell at a price too high...

What do you want then - Pompey style money transfers ??? It worked well for them did'nt it.. Oh wait !

The point is, we were never going to realistically get Hooper - there are targets out there who were achievable and would have improved the squad but we seemed to put all our eggs into one basket. Now we're desperate enough to bring back one of the most temperamental players in Saints history, who was told he'd have no future at the club as a back up.

Nobody wants Pompey style transfers, but I have to admit I'd expected more than a loan signing who didn't look impressive, an unproven striker and the return of Puncheon!

with puncheon now back in first team squad we're more than ok on the wings and although another striker would be good we're probably got enough, for now, there as well. I think what we need is another keeper, how about Lee Camp from Forest? they're desperate for the cash and over the last couple of seasons he's been the stand out keeper in the Championship

I disagree - I honestly think Hooper was a realistic target for us and well worth pursuing as he would markedly improve our squad now, and also was fit for purpose for the Prem should we get there.

OK we hav'nt landed him this time but neither have West Ham or Cardiff landed their targets either..

Why settle for a "fans opinion back up" that might just not fit in with what Nigels plans and what he wants to achieve and not been any better than what we have ( I'm thinking of Jutkiewicz here BTW)...

Also Puncheon now has a point to prove. he now has an opportunity to rescue his career and impress putting himself in the shop window in the summer ( should he wish) - Without this he was heading tpwards oblivion but now he will be anxious to show what he can do for any number of reasons.

We have money to spend but you can only spend each available pound once - So it makes sense to buy what you want rather than buy a "makeshift" !

Dont disagree, but it is a risk to only have one target who we might not even get our hands on if promoted. It would be irresponsible not to have other options in mind (ones which I'd argue more achievable). The fact is we haven't been promoted yet, Puncheon may have a point to prove but it doesn't disguise the fact that we've clearly failed to land the players required for the promotion push and in my opinion this news stemmed from the panic surrounding the shambolic showing on Monday. If today concludes our business then I'll be very disappointed as I don't think we've done enough.

January window is a tough one to buy what you want - Unless you are very lucky you tend to pay over the odds or sign players that others don't want/need - This Might not be a bad thing everytime of course, but clearly all of our targets are wanted/needed and would take an inflated wedge to land them.

Like you I would feel more comfortable with another centre back and another striker but if they are not available ...!

Was probably from football rumours.

Its being discussed on Northstand Chat at the moment - not from football rumours but a lot of talk on Twitter. Could be a load of rubbish though, I can't see any reason why they would want him!

West Ham have had a bid for Jelavic rejected by Rangers. HA! The Scots really don't want to sell, do they.

Things are starting to hot up. I wish I were able to follow the deadline day goings on on Tuesday.

Probably because it's too late for Rangers to get a replacement.Rangers and Celtic only live for one thing, beating the other one in each of their 4 matches each season.Perhaps West Ham need to up their bid a bit though.
