Boris Karloff Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 Much as I hate to overreact, I think it might be the last time he plays for us. It wasn't just the one mistake, he was all over the place today, and you could see the defenders had no confidence in him.
kwsaint Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 Agreed - simply not up to it today. We need to get a backup for Kelv in January and move Bart on.
the saint in winchester Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 Don't agree. He needs MORE game time, not less. He is a confidence player and needs to be playing. Pulling out of the Reserves league has meant he has spent games on the bench. I wouldn't give up on Bart, he just needs to get his confidence back. Remember not so long ago when he came in for an extended spell, and when KD was ready again, may fans wanted Bart to retain the jersey. He can still play at this level IF he can get his confidence back, and that means playing more regularly than the odd League Cup game.

buctootim Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 Get rid is too harsh, but it is true to say Bart hasn't developed in the way most thought he would. jampot Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 With every will in the world I wanted Bart to put in a decent showing today. SaintAndy14 Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 He looked awkward when kicking... is he carrying an injury? I thought this. Shocking performance yes - almost seemed as though he had never played in goal before and didn't know what to do - but he's put in some great performances for us in previous seasons in very brief and limited spells and shown loyalty. As someone above said, he hasn't been allowed much game time at all, especially with no reserve league. Coming in for the odd game must be difficult. I like Bart and think he deserves another chance. Prior to this match, many people were happy to have him in goal instead of Kelv - suddenly he's wanted on the scrap heap! Perhaps there was an injury problem which prevented him from kicking properly and affected his performance, or perhaps it was just a one-off shocker. Either way, I hope Bart stays and gets the chance to prove his critics wrong.
bpsaint Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 I hope to never see him in a Saints shirt ever again. All the people saying he needs games, he'll get better with age blah blah blah bull****! There's a reason he has been here nearly 6 years and still isn't number 1, he simply isn't good enough. The amount of games I've been to where he has been so shaky is beyond a joke now, he has not improved ever since those infamous performances against Lazio and Palace. If we have serious aspirations to be a decent club then GK is one position we HAVE to strengthen.

alpine_saint Posted 10 December, 2011 Author Share Posted 10 December, 2011 Expected this thread. Depressingly predictable. Felt bad for Jin, looked so nervous. Couple of years wi no league games can do that. Clearly shown the ability before but his nerve has gone. Definitely think he's capable but he needs to play every week somewhere and get his confidence an experience up. Not sure what we should do. Kelvin has been fine. Replace him or sign back up? Experienced back up is better IMO. tough one, not sure of many good potential keeper signings. Everyone banged on about Lewis but whenever I see him he's rubbish! Why dont you read my words ? I chose them very carefully. I havent said he isnt capable of being a brilliant goalkeeper, just the way its worked out with us hes never got an extended run as first choice and now we have resources he wont get it either; he needs to go elsewhere, be first choice, and work out his mental issues during an extended run. Saint 76er Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 It's really hard to know what was up with Bart today. It was seriously like they had brought a bloke down from the crowd and put him in goal. I've never seen a goalie (at any level) dive and chest the ball away rather than use his hands, simply bizarre. Bart stood and watched a shot hit the post that he could easily have claimed, it was true rabbit in the headlights stuff. I know it's not easy sitting season after season on the bench but Bart is paid big money to be professional and that performance was pure Monty Python. I have truly never seen a worse gk performance ever and it wasn't just the 'blind venetian' goal but the whole 95 mins was utterly bizarre from Bart. Reason Blackpool almost won it was because they had Gilks in goal and we had Bart ...

SaintNik Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 I always try and give our players the benefit of the doubt, but with Bart today, I'm not sure. Let's potentially fast forward to next Sunday. How will he cope in front of 20,000 Pompey fans on his back, who would have probably seen his frailties today? I think that wil be significantly more pressure than today!
S-Clarke Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 He will be a good keeper at a club where he's playing regular. That will not be here, and his time is now up for me. His opportunities have been few and far between, but when he's given a chance he makes horrendous errors. Remember the goal he concerned earlier in this season in the carling cup...? Move him on and get an experienced backup. I wouldn't trust him at all after today.

Is he our longest serving player at the club and think how little he plays. Apparently very good in training - I'm sure that if he was needed for a string of games that he'd pull it out the bag and be a good keeper. As a goalkeeper myself I was actually impressed that he got himself together after the goal to claim a cross and keep going for the rest of the match. Clearly made a mental decision to put it behind him after it had happened. I guess I'd just say I'm still a Bart fan and I hope we keep him. I'd be happy for him to play regularly based on what I know of him so far after Kelvin has to retire
