CB Fry Posted 9 December, 2011 Share Posted 9 December, 2011 If we were turning away 10,000 fans every week in the Premier League as our resident computer gaming div is trying to make out, why on earth did we not sell out of season tickets (I think the max we could sell was 25,000 and I don't think we got near that) and why wasn't there a season ticket waiting list. At the Dell the reason we knew we needed a bigger ground was because we had a season ticket waiting list and the only way to guarantee seeing regular games was to get a season ticket. If there really was 10,000 additional fans desperate to get in to see Bolton then I am sorry but they wouldn't all just shrug their shoulders and give up, they'd get a season ticket. That's what demand for tickets is, that's what demand for tickets manifests itself as. And anyway, I don't understand why these 10,000 fans only thought about buying a ticket on the morning of the game? Just fairyland. If there was 40,000 fans fighting for 30,000 tickets there would be tangible, regular, visceral demand. Queues round the block. 30 minute sell outs. And, crucially, loads and loads and loads of season ticket sales. There wasn't, because there wasn't.

Torrent Of Abuse Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 I thought the argument was that many "so-called fans" deserted the club once we left the Premier League? Surely if you can point the finger at those fans then you have to also accept that those people would actually come back in the Premier League. I don't think a Championship game v Blackpool is any measure of what an attendance would be in the top flight. Sure we are not a big club - but surely the idea is to build something bigger, milk those fans who only seem to turn up against top six sides, give away lots of tickets to kids and then build the sort of support that will be here in a generation. No we're not ****ing Barcelona but I can't have a go at people who would like to see us expanding the club. If we can't do it now with wealthy owners when could we? After all, the key to any sort of success now has to be through increasing incomes? If we don't we will always stay the same size club. Is there that much harm in wanting more? Saint-Fred Posted 10 December, 2011 Share Posted 10 December, 2011 Surely if you have the situation where it's difficult to get tickets then you will never grow a fan base further as the same 30000 supporters will come every week. You need a ground which is over your regular capacity to be able to bring in new fans...If they can easily come along and not have to book months in advance you will hook some and your attendance may grow?
