Man U and Man City both out the Champions league

City can rightly point to having a tough group, and they got 10 points and still missed out - I'm not sure that's ever happened before.

United have absolutely no excuse, they had a ****-easy draw and should have had qualification wrapped up with games to spare, but Fergie's decision to treat the group stage like the Carling Cup by picking reserve sides for the early games, showing a complete lack of respect to the other teams in the group (fair enough, pick reserve teams when you've already qualified, but don't be so arrogant to just assume you'll still do enough), means they thoroughly deserve everything they've got tonight.

I'll take this opportunity to state just how delighted I am to see MUFC crash out of what should have been a easy enough group. It's always a pleasure to see the mancs fail, but to see them **** it up so spectacularly at this early stage is like Christmas has come early.

Even that utter barsteward Roy Keane put the boot in to them - priceless.

This will mean only the top three will qualify for next seasons CL, with the team finishing third having to go through the early qual stages. It`s a crap rule that they should get a go at the Europa league, IMO if you are out it should mean OUT !!!

Fergie's responce...? "Well, he's had opportunities to prove himself as a manager too" - Had to LOL.

Dont think it does. Papers earlier this week said we would stay in the top 3, who get 4 places, next season and who is to say that Ar se and Chelski wont make the final making our position stronger.

No it won't. It'll take a number of years of crap performances by English teams in Europe, coupled with one of the other leagues who currently get 3 CL places (most likely Italy or France) improving consistently over the same period, for England to lose a CL place.

The Bundesliga has outperformed Serie A for years, and it's only this season that they've taken the 4th CL place from Serie A

Think it happens quite a lot actually. In 2005 when Liverpool won, they had 10 points but still needed Gerrard's late goal (and associated insufferable Andy Gray commentary) to get them through on goal difference.

Olympiakos went out of the competition with 10 points. So did Dynamo Kiev in Group B.

Apparently the French betting council are looking into the 7-1 Lyon win last night. Routine say some but a Zagreb defender

gave the thumbs up and winked at the Lyon player when he scored their 5th goal.

What would the odds have been on both Manchester clubs not making the knock out stages?

Pretty heft but doubt if there were many bets on it.

oh the irony of all my mates who are "real fans" of Liverpool laughing at the 2 manc teams failing...I said to one "even though they lost out, they're still in a competition you failed to qualify for"...to which his response was "you're so bitter and jealous towards us"....hmmm what a delude ***** he really is
