influx Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 Cast your minds back to suwhen we were at the bottom of the premier league. Didnt we used to get surprising result against the teams battling for the top? And in some cases the team we beat went on to win the Championship, so why be that surprised that teams are now doing it against us in the NpC?! doddisalegend Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 Well I now remember why being in the PL was so wretched. I much prefer being the team at the top of the table, winning most of the time, slipping up to a team in the relegation zone rather than being the team in the relegation zone beating a top team but losing most weeks.,... Exactly! I find it really hard to be negative about this season so far, but of course that makes me a happy clapper.
RobM Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 I said the very same thing in the reaction thread. Teams raise their game when playing us, just like we did in the Prem, just like we've done recently against Prem teams in cup games. Losing to Doncaster doesn't make them better than us nor does it make us a terrible team. It just means we lost one game, that's all.
Saint Stimp Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 Exactly! I find it really hard to be negative about this season so far, but of course that makes me a happy clapper. It's almost impossible, given how everyone had predicted our season to go at the start. Most expected us to be mid table, a few predicted playoffs, I didn't see any predictions that suggested we'd maintain our home winning streak into December and sit on top of the pile. Big_Bald_Si Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 Good thread. That's the beauty of the championship, anyone can beat anyone else. I remember last season QPR getting an absolute hiding from Sc*nthorpe (4-1 I believe), but they still went up.
Lighthouse Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 If I may attempt to clear the issue up; Losing to Donny - Not a problem Losing to teams in the relegation zone in consecutive weeks - Not a problem Being top of the league - Not a problem. Having much better home form than away form - Not a problem Consistently putting in poor performances away from home, not getting results and if anything we are getting worse - That's the problem. Can people please stop talking about table toppers getting beaten by relegation candidates as if it's the norm. WE KNOW, that isn't the issue. The problem is the big picture. david in sweden Posted 6 December, 2011 Share Posted 6 December, 2011 (edited) Can people please stop talking about table toppers getting beaten by relegation candidates as if it's the norm. WE KNOW, that isn't the issue. The problem is the big picture. Some people seem to be afraid of our " upcoming / impending / likely " Prem. status (that choice of synonyms should create a furore with some) and the likelihood of us getting " canned " by every other Prem.side but I agree with you Lighthouse that we need to have a broader understanding of what Premiership status means nowadays and what sort of players we need to compete. A quick look at today's table shows that , aside from the top 6-7 sides, and a couple more who are holding their own.. the bottom 10 in the Prem. are all likely to fall into the relegation zone if they lose a couple of games, whereas one win can move someone up 4-5 places. We really don't know, to what level the Cortese / Liebherr consortium is likely to commit themselves to - when we eventually go up, but if (as NC has intimated) they will lay out big money to consolidate our new status, then we need to rapidly put behind us the doubts and misgivings than were appparant only 9 months ago as an L1 club, and consider what sort of side we will put out if we get Man.City as the first home game next August ! It needs a visionary who can plan longer-term.. and not someone with " tunnel-vision," or " rose-coloured spectacles ". Let's hope that NC and NA between them can deliver the goods....on time !.
