Viking Warrior Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 NA does not wash his dirty laundry in public. Yes we lost on saturday. Its not the end of the world its a blip Nigel will be preparing us well for saturdays game. Keep the faith instead of moaning. We should get behind the players . Why are a few booing Guly for instance?
doddisalegend Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 I agree WC, but dont you think if you play a certain way, and a player gets injured AKA lambert. You should have a simular style / better substitute waiting, Because we havent!! Guly/ Barnard just dont fit that mould at all!!! No I think instead of trying to find a Lambert clone (and lets face no one who is coming as back up to Lambert will be better than him). We should have a plan b,c, and d and play to the strengths of the good players we have. Lambert is not an easy player to replace so why try? why not have other ways of playing instead? damers Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 Not too encouraged by Adkin's hint that the way to solve the away form is to play more defensively away from home. Steve Bruce (of blessed memory) is quoted as saying that a team is only as good as its strikers. That makes us good when we have Lambert and Connolly in the side in which case we need two more front players of equal quality. May be not play more defensive away from home, but stop trying to force the issue, we seem to get caught out when we go narrow trying to force a goal, I think if we keep the ball and work their players our better players will win out in the last 10 mins (If we are not chasing the game). Doncaster seems a unique case, they set up with very little attacking options, relying on us to over extend ourselves so they could nick something. It worked perfectly for them because we were no consistent threat. There looks very little that we could have done differently to engineer a result, we were just not good enough on the day. If Doncaster had tried to open up and make a game of it I would believe they could have lost. The error against Doncaster comes in believing we were good enough to force a result, whereas if we had played for the point we looked odds on to get it. Should Doncaster then feel the need to chase the game in the last 1/4, then we may have won with the extra space afforded us, as it was it worked blindingly for Donny. Against Bristol it was different, they had two of the leagues on form players doing their stuff and we were unlucky to concede those two goals, but the same logic applies, whether to stick with what you have or chase the game. We are suffering at the moment due to injuries and form, resulting in seeing Schniederlin up front. It does not seem that poor from Adkins given the position we were in. Thinking about it, maybe Fonte up front would have worked out better. But Adkins sees these guys every day and he has done hell of a lot of good things. RobM Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 Yes Rob i agree. Why does NA think he can get Guly/Barnard to do that job when they clearly cannot, I would like to have a pace option. As thats what we clearly lack at the mo! I don't know. I really don't. My simple brain says you play to your strengths - if we lose Lambert, we've lost his strength and link-up play. We don't have an out-and-out pacy striker, so we can't just lob balls into their box and hope for the best. What we do have is Guly's creativity and through-balls and Barnards finishing and composure. Neither have pace but both can work wonders with a good supply into the box. We have some pace on the wings and some great crossers of the ball in our fallbacks. We also have Lallana's creativity. To me, that suggests we shouldn't be asking our forwards to drop deeper and do what Rickie does, but get them forward higher up the pitch and get the ball into them as much as possible. Trying to play through them won't work, IMO, so play to them higher up the pitch. But then, I'm not a professional football manager.
Dr Who? Posted 5 December, 2011 Share Posted 5 December, 2011 IMHO, Away form will be the deciding factor come the end of the season, and at the moment, Saints have the worst return of the current Top Five Saints 12 points WHU 23 Boro 20 Cardiff 14 Leeds 17 St Mary's is a Fortress ATM, but the law of averages say that we will drop some points at home sometime NA has done wonders for us, but I do question his away tactics. The points return should tell him that he's got it wrong somewhere along the line Now lets take a look at the home form. Saints 30 points West Ham 17 points Boro 15 points Cardiff 23 points Leeds 17 points IMO We will start to drop points at home, but also improve are away form, of course we would find the right aproach play for home and away games, as at the moment it is ust not working away from home. It is lucky that Cardiff are also rubbish away from home!! just shows how inconsistent everyone is, and we are very lucky to have excellent home form... long may it continue.
