Blackpool Build up Thread

Bad Wolf

100% FACT. Saw the above mentioned with Dan Harding in County arms in Winchester tonight. Chappers has "2 weeks left" and RL's response was "no mate" when I asked them if they were fit for saturday

Adkins: "So, how you feeling Rickie? All set for Blackpool on Saturday?"

Lambert: "Yes, boss. The medical team have just given me the all clear. Raring to go"

Adkins: "Hmmm, here's what we'll do Rickie me lad...."

Lambert: "Yes boss?"

Adkins: "Get yourself and a few of the other lads down the pub tonight and make your presence known to any Saints fans there"

Lambert: "Erm, why's that boss?"

Adkins: "Well, when they ask if you've recovered from your injury, pretend that you haven't. Put on a bleak look so that they think you've got a while to go yet. These fans will then let the cat out of the bag on that highly respected Saints internet forum and word will then get round to Ian Holloway at Blackpool that you're still out of action. Bingo!"

Lambert: "Ah, good plan boss. Ok, leave it with me...."

Completely agree with the 2 from 3, also gives fresh impetus when 3 comes on as sub. If Lambert is fit we just go back to normal and hope everything is ok. not am not so sure about Barnard. Adkins should know from the training ground if Barnard is up to it and if not I would be very tempted to play Fonte at CF. Keep De Ridder for the impact and shore up the right or left with one of the additional full backs.

I fully accept the notion of Fonte at CF may well be silly, but we were so toothless against a Doncaster side still favourite to finish bottom, that I fell that the position is desperate enough. Fonte will win you ball up front and be a threat from crosses such we can exert some pressure.

Not so silly as playing Schneiderlin to score goals, I think though Fonte would be a big miss at the back with only Martin to come on. I still can't get Butterfield's hat trick v Premier League Wolves a couple of years ago out of my mind. If Barnard had to start it would give us some optional cover if he was on the bench.

there is of course a third option:

Bristol City and Doncaster both had better than average keepers.Didn't that happen to us at Walsall last year? not that he was above average he just got exceptionally lucky.

At least 2 pretty decent saves at least from Ikeme on Saturday and the old pompey reject wasn't too dusty either.I bet if donny had had their habitual hack we'd have scored at least 2.

Absolute rubbish. Neither keeper had anything to do in either game.

The problem with playing Fonte at CF is that we'd need cover at the back. Why not run with Turks brilliant idea, recall Jonno Quick and play him at CH? Makes about as much sense imho.....

Really ?? the 30 yd rocket from Guly going into the top corner that Ikeme turned over didn't look 'nothing' to me.

Ikeme made at least 2 good saves....look at the highlights.

The only save from the Brizzle and Donny games that came close to being excellent IMO was Lallana's first time shot against James after he had been played in by Morgan.

The others were pretty routine - Guly was never going to beat Ikeme at the near post from that distance. Keeper was well behind it throughout.

He used one hand above his head and stayed on his feet. Was never going past him

I don't need to re-watch any highlights thanks. I stood through both games at the time and know that the reason we didn't score in either game wasn't because of excellent performances from either keeper as you wrongly suggest. Both had pretty easy days.

I'm still waiting for the "Saints Players out drinking in a Pub Outrage" thread. Didn't they realise they have a game in 4 and a half days time FFS.

Talking of playing players out of position, a half serious suggestion would be Richardson at right mid, with Butterfield right back. Richardson has shown he's good getting forward, some good crosses from the bye-line, plus provides plenty of defensive cover, with Butterfield being an excellent crosser from deep. Unlikely I know.

Butterfield is an obvious one for me, he is such a good passer of the ball. I prefer the idea of him at RM but a look at those goals would easily convince anyone otherwise. I really don't want to have both wings open when you don't have an attack that can open them up. There is only a real need for change if we are not functioning as an attacking unit, but I am having difficulty seeing anyone but Fonte being able to make that difference if that is the case.

Butterfield has made 1 league start this season with 0 sub appearances. Doubt if he's even in the frame this time.

Expect us to go with the same start line up as last Saturday but a different tactical schema myself. If there's a change it will be Barney instead of De Ridder, unless of course Rickie is fit.

One thing that does puzzle me however is that Cork can play right back but not right midfield...go figure.

If NA was gonna play bothe Richardson and Butterfield on the right, I would expect FR to be the more advanced player. Mainly because he's better at getting to the byline whereas Butters is more effective crossing from deep. Doubt it will happen mind.

I'm pretty sure Chappers has mentioned on twitter he lives there?

How funny, a colleague of mine went to school with Chaplow and is a friend of his on Facebook, I asked him if he would ask 'Chappie' if he was in Winchester recently, he replied "??? No mate, I don't do Winchester".......oh well.

He does live in Winchester, as does Harding, Adkins and Crosby. Probably a few more too

If we make the mistake of starting all three central midfielders in the same team there is a good chance we will lose. Hull first half was hopeless and didn't improve until Cork was taken off leaving the standard two central midfielders. I don't care which two but all three is hopeless.

We need De Ridder & one of the centre midfielders on the bench to change things around. That leaves Barnard having to start up front for us and a vacant right midfielder slot that needs filling, why not

Frazer?

Just a thought, put Guly back on the right & bring Fox in with Harding to at the left, leaving Lallana to float.

Still think we'll give Lallana and De Ridder a kick up the backside and then play 4-3-3 myself .

Don't think the attendance will be especially good for this one as the Uni are doing reduced student tickets again, unsurprising perhaps as we are so close to xmas and it's a 12.45 ko, but still disappointing as we are top of the bloody league! Anyways lets hope Rickie is back as I can see us losing our unbeaten home form.

Davis

Frazer-Jos-Fonte-Harding

Guly-Cork-Morgan-Lallana

Barnard-Rickie

would be my line up if possible.

I think it will be a very poor crowd unfortunately. Prob just on 20k. Nice to see the club yet again giving priority to random students that fancy a cheap afternoon out, as oppossed to long-standing Saints fans.

reckon they'll get a decent crowd myself, last home game before Christmas and all that. Plus at 12.45 pm there's time for getting dragged to the shops afterwards.

At least 24K is what I'd predict.

Spot on. We need the width to create space and stretch teams.

On Sky. Plenty of other Saints games coming up. Less than 1k away fans. We won't get anywhere near 24k.

Back to winning ways with Cork and Hammond in the middle.

If Rikee is fit up front with Guly..if not..start Barnard with Guly.

De Ridder and Lallana on the wing of middle four.

Team to start...

Davis

Richardson Fonte Jos Fox

De Ridder Cork Hammond Lallana

Guly Lambert (Barnard)

SUBS Bart, Martin,Spiderman,Harding and Ward-Prowse.

4-1 win for Saints

Blackpool are bringing about 400. Attendance won't be over 21k.

i agree, Blackpool fans won't fancy the trip, and personally i think the ticket prices are too high for games like this, it is interesting to compare with Birmingham who have category A,B,C and D games so lower prices for less popular matches. i'd rather keep the £27 in my pocket and watch on sky, keeping the money back for other games, will use it for Brighton away instead.

From the Adkins interview on Saints Player I would say Lambert won't play.
Without Lambert this really will be a test of our home record. Blackpool are no mugs and I can see them giving us a real test. Must be a fairly bad knock for Lambert to be out for at least two weeks.

adkins said pretty much the same thing when lallana first got injured but ended up missing the next few games. i think he wants lambert fit for poopey game so probably wont risk him for tomorrow if he is not fully fit and will hope we have enough in us to win again at sms. not sure we will have enough goal threat with out him in the team.

i think he will keep with the rigid 3 in midfield (cork, hammond, morgan) with guly and lallana playing behind barnard.

I've just watched the interview and I actually came away thinking the opposite.

He said pretty much the same thing just before Lallana made his come back earlier in the season. They also did the same thing with the training footage....made sure that Lallana wasn't shown training, to which everyone said "No Lallana this weekend - he wasn't in the training footage". And this week? Not a sign of Rickie in the training footage.... Make of that what you will....

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Lambert is named on the bench.
