Today shows why we should have signed James Beattie

That thought did cross my mind, although it's pretty trivial really. We just need someone who can hold the ball up well and win it in the air. Guly cannot play as the lone striker. Anyone who was at Swindon would have seen he just can't hold the ball up and do the work on his own. I'd have started with Barnard and Guly, but even that wouldn't have worked too well IMO. We need a big lad in January.

Yeah, we should've signed Beattie for one game.

Think to be fair his point is that, ok maybe not Beattie, but we should have bought in a big centre forward on loan as cover for Rickie.

We have gambled on his fitness until January and barely a week after the window slammed shut we have lost that gamble.

Some say sods law but we have gambled with the chance of mainting our place at the top of the league for me I'm sorry to say.

We're building a team with a future, it won't be made up of players from the past

Agreed. We have had a blistering start to the season and we should celebrate this. I remain consistent in my view that we will finish mid table comfortably (17th), and that our rookie manager will learn from the season and put us in good shape for a play off place next season !

Hopefully for your sake you are on a wind up. But in case you aren't...

- 17th in a league of 24 isn't midtable.

- 17th in the Championship in 2010/11 had 56 points from 46 games. Saints currently have 42 points from 20 games.

Do you really think Saints will only pick up 14 points from the remaining 26 games?

That would be something like Play 26 Win 3 Draw 5 Lose 18

TBF I think we should be building a team for promotion and then take stick when we get there. I wouldn't have a problem with a journeyman centre forward (not necessarily Beattie) as cover for Lambert, who then gets discarded once get promoted.

Today doesn't show why we should have signed James Beattie, to me it shows that our academy isn't producing very much these days and that JonnoQuick and probably Steve De Ridder probably weren't very wise buys.Where are the kids that we've always produced...Hoskins,Doble aren't they supposed to be the bee's ******.

Lambert was always going to get injured sooner or later. We failed to bring in a similar player to him. Beattie on a free would have shown his worth today I'm sure and the loss of Lambert wouldn't have been such a miss.

All in my opinion of course

Was thinking the same after we went behind.

Anyone clubless at the moment ?

When you get hold of a wind up, you really dont let it go do you? I.e the Hoddle one.

Please bore off

As Beatle Saint said we took a punt and we lost. It really is sod's law Lambert got injured the week after the window shut and in that same week Maynard and Sharp (two rumoured targets) stuck the knife in.

There is a long way to go and there is time to remedy matters but if NA has erred so far it was not getting in say a young 19 or 20 year old Reserve Premiership nos 9 (a bit like Beattie when we originally signed him).

With the Chamberlain money presumably at his disposal he "stuck" when perhaps he should have "twisted".

What Chamberlain money?? Don't doubt that most of it has already been spent.Fox,Jos,Cork and De Ridder won't have been give aways not to mention what we'd already spent last season.150K here, 300K there...10 million is quickly blown, if we indeed got as much as that.

It's the same old same old with us and money, we bought De Ridder to replace Chamberlain...turned out well that then.

Why does anyone think they are similar players? Physically prehaps. Lambert has great touch and control. Beattie does not. Lambert is great at bringing other players into the game. Beattie is not. When Beattie played for us our tactic was to get it into the channels and let his power win it against centre halves. We don't play like that at the moment. I'm

Sure many of you who know f*ck all about football and think Guly is sh*t and Harding is brilliant and who sang for Bradley Wright Phillips to be brought on will think he is the answer to all our prayers. He isn't.

Beattie? No thanks.

Adkins should've heeded my advice in January, and signed a less well known, cheaper Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield. We'll regret that one.

Blips will come along, I have no doubt Adkins is looking for a striker in the January window.
