10 points. Sometimes you just look a fixture and think yea...guaranteed loss there, we shouldn't but we do.

Hopefully Barnard will get a full 90 minutes at some point instead of 15 minutes here and there, especially with Rickie injured/out.

I think this just shows we need another striker come jan', without lambert and with key players in Lallana and Chaplow not fully fit we're struggling. Fortunately i do think it's just a blip but why the **** did it have to happen just before the skates!

We sounded very sterile today. But Im not going to get downbeat. I will leave that to the mirserable few.

I think some teams set out their stalls to snuff out our midfiled channels. We need Chappers , Rickie Dan Seabourne and co back in the team

We were doing well up to the recent international break. This stop start season is also contributing to our odd blip,

Still Im not disheartened still a lot of points to play for.

Doncaster will take points of the top sides as well

Yes, there was loads of harm done. Leeds, Brighton and Blackpool have all closed in on us, with Boro and Cardiff still to play. You're deluded if you think we're in a 2 horse race for the title.

This. And some of those teams have a helluva lot more experience for the slug-fest over the last 2 months of the Championship season than us.

Shocking result leaves question marks about our away form. However we are still top and this might just send the right message to Cortese and our owners that we need to splash a little cash in January to strengthen in certain areas.

Just spent £1.3m - so doesn't seem to be a problem with funds. I fully expect to see a new striker arrive in the transfer window.

Top of the league. Played 20. Points accumulated 42. 2 clear of 2nd. 8 clear of 3rd. 12 clear of 7th. Excellent return from the first 20 games.

Mate it's how's you finish that counts. And we can't seem to finish away from home.

We need another option on the wing. Not sure De Ridder is the answer. NeedChaplow back. Really need another striker. Billy Sharp?

We need some pace up front, without a doubt. Maynard for me, or Sordell....someone to stretch the opposition, because we just don't have that at all. Pace can get you out of jail in away games.

De Ridder is an impact player for me, he just doesn't have the same effect from the start that he has when he comes off the bench. Very frustrating player as he promised a lot more than we're currently seeing!

Implying that our squad is made up of players that have never been involved in a 46 game season with something to play for in the final run in?

I guess it is a good thing to be able to say this is the first time this season I have been really annoyed about a bad result.

Away form really needs to be sorted out, we can't rely on winning every home game all season. Still, if Boro and Cardiff don't win we're still in a very healthy position and the result is kind of cancelled out !

horrendous result result, to sum up our horrendous away form!

Only one reason we're doing so well, and that's because of our home form!

FFS, its ****ing terrible being top of the league isn't it? Bad result agreed.

Still according to Alpine this game was on the eve of our derby away to Skates, so no chance of putting things right at home to Blackpool next week, pity as I was planning on going to the game. I guess Hammers fans will be slitting their wrists, they don't even have home form to fall back on, I guess they will be relegated now.

Some people just need to grow a pair.

Find it frustrating how their best players and spine of their side seem to be loans (Fortune, Ikeme, Goulon, Ilunga and Beye)

We should be doing this. Other than an unfit barnard nothing on the bench.

De Ridder doesn't seem good enough to start.

Even West Ham losing ****ed me off a little, cost me £700 in accy!! Terrible day :x

Gutted! Serious work needs to be done to change this away form. I think NA struggles to know what to do away from home. Worst result of the season IMHO. Two away games to the TWO worst teams in the division and he played off the park and offer no threat up front.

Shame on you Saints.

Hull game us a game and we can consider ourselves lucky, Blackpool on Saturday and you just know KP will go all out to score against us. And then on to Fraton Park. They will have not fear when they play us. And will go a

l out . I can nothing but a loss down there. And that is partly due to our significantly poor away form.

Wouldn't agree that today's Doncaster are one of the worst teams in the League, Habib Beye would get into any Championship side because he's a really good player. We should snap him up if his parent club (who is that by the way) don't want him.

Don't know if Rickie would have got much change from him either and Barnard..well he's just not in Beye's class.

Im afraid we should have signed another forward good enough to play with or replace lambert if hes injured. We sold aoc for 15 million we probably should have made sure we were covered because it is now costing us. People say lallana is our best player but for me he is not a patch on lambert. On the plus side our home form is fab and we may now realise we have to change something away. Great that we have done so well but one defeat was understandable away today was bad enough but the performance was just terrible.

Adkins tactics costed us greatly today, I know it is only one game but does it show how importand Lambert is to us and that 442 is most effective formation? Stupid one in the hole, diamond to retain the ball well didn't work today. But at least west ham couldn't take advantage but if we are serious about promotion we should be beating teams like Doncaster and Bristol.

Nige has to learn that Hammond, Cork and Morgan do not make for an offensive midfield. This hands the initiative to the opposition. Surprised after what happened at Brizzle and in 1st half v Hull he persisted with a line-up that clearly does not work for us. Very disappointing to lose to a team at the bottom but as others have said - nobody expected us to be top.

I'm delighted mate, this season has exceeded my expectations without any doubt. We're in a stunning position. It's just that our away form is starting to cause a bit of concern.

It's true that the only reason we're top is because of our home form, our away form has been questionable all year - bottom half I think. I don't think we can just ignore it and I'm sure Adkins isn't, it's a problem and needs to improve for the new year f'sure.

Very, very poor I'm afraid. Away form simply has to get better. We weren't even great against Hull in midweek.

Anyone else think that the squad is simply knackered? We've only used 17 different players I think this season which is the last of any side in the league - reckon that could be catching up with us? If so it could be a long winter.

Possibly. But part of our success has been playing a consistent team who generally know what each other are going to do. It's hard to know where to draw the line balancing the two (which is why Adkins gets the big bucks and I don't). I think we do need to bring in one or two players if we can get the right ones - it's not simply our decision. But I also think that two poor away results is not a cue for panic and despondency (or elation as it seems for one or two people) given what we've achieved this season.

We will lose games that we expect to win. Adkins will learn the lessons and I am confident he will strengthen where necessary and where possible.

Another totally inept away performance. I said after seeing us lose at Bristol that are away performances were becoming a concern. [With Portsmouth and Brighton our next two away games, with the fragility away that has been becoming more and more apparent ,it is difficult to see us getting any thing from those games, which will be played in very hostile atmospheres]. The worrying thing is that we have not scored and have created so few chances in these last two games.

We have to be realistic and accept that we were due a dip in form, but against these two particular sides??

I know West Ham lost, but their away record will see them alright, because they will win a few more than they lose at home before the end of the season. Finally with the options on the bench today,it was unlikely that we would ever pull even one goal back.

****ing hell, what do people expect, that we win every game?

I dont know how we played as I wasn't there,(obviously we sounded poor), but I'd take Adkins tactical nous over Dave Merrington's anyday. I nearly chucked my radio out the window when he kep banging on about Barnard. The bloke hasn't played for months, yet Merrington seems to think he's the answer to everything.

At the end of the day, we are still 2 points clear and West Ham had a winnable home game. As silly as it sounds I would rather lose to bottom sides than give our rivals 3 points. Lets see how Boro get on in Bristol tonight before we start slitting our wrists and moaning about losing to bottom sides. Both City and Donny have new Managers and in Donny's case have brought in some Premiership players.

This is a tough League and every single one of us would have taken this position before the season started.

I agree, but we don't know if he 's up to it. Four short sub.appearances for someone who's been out for 6 months ..? sounds doubtful.

The worst problem is without Connolly AND Lambert he is our only recognised striker ....and (I suspect) not 100% match fit, or he would have started.

In the first half we had Lallana and De Ridder as offensive midfielders, what did they do because listening to the commentary it would seem to me that Morgan and Guly were our only attacking threats. Lallana needs to get it together and De idder...well he's just an impact player who thinks he's some sort of stand up comic.

Couldn't care less what happened in the other games, only care about our games and right now we are playing dreadful. Our away form is terrible and needs sorting out. We have lost 3 of our last 4 away games. Only won once in our last 8 away games. The only reason we are top is because of our home form. But eventually we will have to play those teams away and if we lose then it cancels out the home result.

The last two away games have been pathetic results and Adkins needs to sort it out.

Nothing knee jerk, what've been saying it for ages. Get yor head out of the sand.

Yeah I agree, its not knee jerk at all. If you are top of the League and serious about promotion you should not be losing to teams at the bottom of the table who have only won one home game all season and not scored more than one goal in those home games.

We are having a bad spell, with the exception of the second half against Brightion we have been poor since the last international break........oh and how many strikers that we have been linked with are gonna score against us FFS ? Sharp, Juke and Maynard......bloody hell.

If this is our wobble and failing to take any points from our last two aways sandwiched by a win at home, I'd take this now and work to get it right now rather than the end of season when it's too late to do anything about it.

Hopefully we can address our away form now and move into the second part of the season learning from it.

Reading this post, many are saying the same things that were said in the summer, the need for another quality striker and pace.

It's a shame that we have waited for the evidence of something that most people were pretty sure about.

The hardest thing for many people to come to terms with is how our good start will probably come to nothing by the end of the season...all for the wont of a little investment and a manager prepared to be a little more decisive in his choice of experience.

On a plus note, NA is a youngish manager and he will learn which will help us next season.
