Saint_clark Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Disappointing, but still top of the league. On to Blackpool. Not sure why Merrington gave us an in depth analysis of Burnley at the end there...
Edmonton Saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Shocking afternoons work. Toothless performance, never sounded like getting anything.
Saintandy666 Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Too defensive. We missed Chaplows ability to attack, and Lamberts holding play/ability to finish. Oh well, onwards we go. Next game is at home!
saint_disco123 Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 we need to sort out our away form, get chappers back thats for sure, barnard sorry but you clearly arnt up for the CCC
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 (edited) Very poor result! Adkins has got to sort out our form soon!!! Edited 3 December, 2011 by SOTONS EAST SIDE
Liquidshokk Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Oh yes. I remember these days where we can't beat the bottom team... Shudder. Missed Lambert and Chaplow clearly...
Ohio Saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Very very disappointing result. Not the end of the world, but it feels like it.
Rasiak-9- Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Very, very poor I'm afraid. Away form simply has to get better. We weren't even great against Hull in midweek. Anyone else think that the squad is simply knackered? We've only used 17 different players I think this season which is the last of any side in the league - reckon that could be catching up with us? If so it could be a long winter.
Saint_clark Posted 3 December, 2011 Author Posted 3 December, 2011 Shocking afternoons work. Toothless performance, never sounded like getting anything. Completely disagree. It was only the last half an hour or so that sounded shocking, it sounded like an even, end to end game before that.
Cestrian Saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Not ****ing good enough. Our away form is ****!
RobM Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 We were always going to have a bad spell, this is it. Equally, teams struggling at the moment of the league raise their game for teams at the top of the league - just as we used to in the Prem. Disappointing to lose, disappointing to realise quite how little attacking threat we pose without RL, but we're still top, the season is still young and I'd rather suffer now while there is still time to pick up. But I'm not a wrist slitter, so probably don't fit in with some here.
trousers Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Top of the league. Played 20. Points accumulated 42. 2 clear of 2nd. 8 clear of 3rd. 12 clear of 7th. Excellent return from the first 20 games.
Mowgli Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 You answered your own question... ...its Dave!! (Another) bad day at the office. Some work needed on the training ground to make the most of the next 4 games. How lucky are we though. We hit a bad patch (everyone knew it would come) and we are still top of the league. Bad patch behind us now. Blue line.
Dalek2003 Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Only the second home win for Doncaster. Congratulations due and to be fair BBC 5 live say it was deserved. Look forward to the comments of NA and those at the match.
alpine_saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Urgent, urgent foray into transfer market required in preparation for opening of transfer window. In the meantime I am going to pray Lambert is back by the next game, and Chaplow for the Pompey game (probably a folorn hope)
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Some laughable comments today. Disappointing sure, but meh, we're doing enough for mid table, and probably enough for promotion.
Toadhall Saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Not great but West ham ****ed it up so no harm done.
um pahars Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 That really is a fccking p1ssser. Wasted a chance to stretch our lead and now in danger of being closed down to 5 points. Need to have a good hard look at our away performances
CB Fry Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Still on more than two points per game, and WHU lost as well. Still well on track for promotion. But a couple of signings in Jan would give us some more options up front which I think is critical is we are going to deliver top-two.
Dr Who? Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Still top but not played well for a few games now and still manging to win at home. Losing to 2 teams in the bottom 3 in a week, without scoring is not right for the TOP team!! On to Blackpool!!
opthomps Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 we dont want to be losing to the teams at the bottom. Pressure is growing on us keeping up this immaculate home form. not ideal. Bring on the january transfer window, and a good striker.
alpine_saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Very, very poor I'm afraid. Away form simply has to get better. We weren't even great against Hull in midweek. Anyone else think that the squad is simply knackered? We've only used 17 different players I think this season which is the last of any side in the league - reckon that could be catching up with us? If so it could be a long winter. yes
Lighthouse Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 It just wouldn't be Saints if we didn't go up North, freeze our tits off and get beaten by a crap team who haven't won at home all season. We really do miss Lambert horribly. I can't say for certain that was the case today, but when we lost at Palace and beat Swindon we looked terrible going forwards. Same in the past when we lost to Plymouth and Gillingham (both of whom went on to get relegated)
latter day saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 how frustrating ! why do we seem to freeze away from home? no shots on goal in the 2nd half is terrible for our team. wonder what Nigel will have to say ?
obelisk Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Some work is needed on sorting out these dire away performances. Losing at Doncaster FFS! And Donny are a team that just can't win at home .. until Saints show up of course. Oh well. Time for the pub.
Saint_clark Posted 3 December, 2011 Author Posted 3 December, 2011 The players only came back from an international break what, 2 or 3 games ago? Tiredness is not an issue.
S-Clarke Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 horrendous result result, to sum up our horrendous away form! Only one reason we're doing so well, and that's because of our home form! We really need to sort out our away form because our inevitable defeats at home will occur, and we are throwing away relativity ''easy'' away games....when we have away @ boro, whu and Leeds to come. I think we miss Chaplow without a doubt, we miss his drive, energy, harrying and the general pain he makes of himself - he gave us an edge in games like this. Without him we lack that bite and our midfield is pretty boring and uneventful. Lallana quite clearly isn't fit, and we didn't have Lambo. All equals a pretty poor afternoon really. Blessing is WHU's result, amazing. We just need to pick ourselves up, beat Blackpool, thrash the skates and win our 2 xmas home games. Do that and we're looking good. Still a long way to go, but you feel this is the inevitable slump - but the question is how long will it go on for..?
Weston Saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Shocking result leaves question marks about our away form. However we are still top and this might just send the right message to Cortese and our owners that we need to splash a little cash in January to strengthen in certain areas.
Bensfcno1 Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Nearly everytime we mess up teams around us do......Although dissapointing not to win and also not to score in 2 away games is worrying. BUT....We are still top and after 20 games gone, we are gna be at least 6 points above 3rd! We cant win them all, although im sure we need to strengthen in jan, hopfully an impact striker and a winger. COYS!
Saints foreva Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Confuses me as to why people think we will smash Pompey away. If our players are finding it tough to play away at the likes of Doncaster then I hate to think how they will cope at Fratton. Awful Saints, ****ing awful.
alpine_saint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 We were always going to have a bad spell, this is it. But I'm not a wrist slitter, so probably don't fit in with some here. I hate posts like this. Comfy, comfy acceptance of the avoidable...
Stepgar Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Gutted! Serious work needs to be done to change this away form. I think NA struggles to know what to do away from home. Worst result of the season IMHO. Two away games to the TWO worst teams in the division and he played off the park and offer no threat up front. Shame on you Saints. Hull game us a game and we can consider ourselves lucky, Blackpool on Saturday and you just know KP will go all out to score against us. And then on to Fraton Park. They will have not fear when they play us. And will go all out . I can nothing but a loss down there. And that is partly due to our significantly poor away form.
CanadaSaint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Sh*t result, great-looking league table. We were without 2 of my 4 "must play" players - and a third is playing poorly. Our rivals will suffer the same fate soon enough. Still, carry on wrist-slitters.
niceandfriendly Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Not sure why Merrington gave us an in depth analysis of Burnley at the end there... Probably because he'd written it down, purely for the listeners at hoooome Adam!
Boris Karloff Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Gutted. Everyone - apart from Adkins, it seems - knows we don't have adequate back up for RL. Please Nicola buy a forward in January.
Wade Garrett Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 I thought first half v Hull was average because we played Morgan, Cork and Hammond together and had no real width. Sounds like we struggled similarly today. Disappointed, and I think it shows how important Chaplow is for us.
badgerx16 Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 "We are Southampton. We're top of the League!"
ulstersaint Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Two away defeats against two bottom teams - and poor performances from Saints in both games. Nigel has done a fantastic job to lift Saints to top of the Championship, but he has got his team selection and tactics badly very wrong in these away games and lost points. Our next away games? P*mpey and Brighton!
Jimmy_D Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Shocking from us, but at least other results bailed us out. Need Lambert and Chaplow back. Blue Line and on to the next one.
Rorski Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 We need another option on the wing. Not sure De Ridder is the answer. NeedChaplow back. Really need another striker. Billy Sharp?
Lighthouse Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Not great but West ham ****ed it up so no harm done. Yes, there was loads of harm done. Leeds, Brighton and Blackpool have all closed in on us, with Boro and Cardiff still to play. You're deluded if you think we're in a 2 horse race for the title.
Dalek2003 Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Very, very poor I'm afraid. Away form simply has to get better. We weren't even great against Hull in midweek. Anyone else think that the squad is simply knackered? We've only used 17 different players I think this season which is the last of any side in the league - reckon that could be catching up with us? If so it could be a long winter. This is precisely what I predicted back in early September and is beginning to happen. However, I am sure that we set out the season to simply secure our status in this league, which we should achieve. In this case should be happy !
pingwing Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 We're top of the league Sam Vokes kept us top of the league! Or something similar
SuperSAINT Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Wow, that made for depressing listening. Pretty much no positives to be taken from it. How long is Lambo out for? Anyone know?
S-Clarke Posted 3 December, 2011 Posted 3 December, 2011 Two away defeats against two bottom teams - and poor performances from Saints in both games. Nigel has done a fantastic job to lift Saints to top of the Championship, but he has got his team selection and tactics badly very wrong in these away games and lost points. Our next away games? P*mpey and Brighton! and in typical saints fashion, 2 away wins!
