Cardiff v Saints - Pre Match Build Up

Fecking let them write us off. I love it when your back is against the wall.

In the old days that WAS Southampton. Backs to the wall, low on ammo, surrounded by Indians.

THAT is when you saw the real SAINTS.

Let's hope that feeling of underdog spurs us on. The more peopple put us down the better. Kids love nothing more than shoving adult attitudes right up their asses!

Not sure really, doesnt seem like they've done much research, the fact that we will be relying almost exclusively on our untested youth was barely touched upon. Nice to see them mention Svensson though!

I think you will find it was spoken about, particulary Schniederlien

SSN just gave us a right slating because Pearson got the boot, an unkown got the job, we got rid of dodd and gorman, paid 1.2Mil on unknown shniederlin and generally shook there heads with everthing concerning the saints.

the only Plus point was that Billy Davies sounded like he was trying to keep himself in mind for a job should all things go arse up by saying how fantastic our club is, fantastic fan base and all things are there for us to be back as a great club.

I know much of there fears were shared by us a few months ago but how come its only us that can see the new manager has earned some respect from both the players and fans? How come its only us that think the way the team is playing we will be OK this season? I know or believe that we wont have everything our own way but I do think things wont be as bad as last year.

I am so looking forward to us raising a few eye brows and turning a few heads and cant wait to see what the so called expert pundits will be saying come xmas.

Little over an hour to go and I cant wait!!!

Early days indeed. This time last season Licka was scoring for fun in preseason, Hammill looked a class apart and we beat someone 12-0. That didn't exaclty set the trend for the season.

I'd have Vignal over Surman anyday of the week at LB. He is far superior both offensively and defensively. All IMHO of course.

I am going for 3-0 to Cardiff. I just hope I don't get outed as being "overly optimistic" come 5pm.

in that he was dreadful, was excited to see him and went to the Lazio game and he was useless and over the season got worse!

I think the only question is the extent of todays defeat.

Losing 1-0 or 2-1 was about our level last season, with the depleted squad Cardiff should be winning 3-0 or 4-0 today.

Today is IMO the start of our relegation dogfight which will be compounded by straight defeats in our next two games.

FFS..... Are you on Effexor?

Thanks for lightening the mood around here.

What I meant was that they didnt explore how 12 of the 16 in our squad today werent playing vs palace last season. Its all change after the summer, but if I had watched that as a fan of another team I would be expecting us to play skacel, rasiak etc, not Mills, Lallana, Holmes, Gillett, James....

Usually hate the summer without football, but this year I've been glad of the break and haven't missed it at all. However I am really looking forwards to the match today :)

COYR's

Same here Spudgun. I got fed up feeling deflated at 5 p.m. nearly every Saturday and have enjoyed the break from it to be honest.

But today, now it's starting again there's that tingle of excitement and expectation and hope creeping in.

No idea what to expect today - could be a thrashing that deflates us all straight away or could be a win that brings a huge wave of optimism? Let's hope the latter!

(Obviously it could be a draw too :-) )

Listening to the Saints TV feed and co-commentator Dave Armstrong is having difficulty NOT to keep referring back to the time when Saints had everything going in the right direction only 5 seasons ago.

It still hurts like hell when you think about it, but we mustn't keep thinking about it. Today is the start of a new season and we're all equal, with equal opportunity. It's a bright shiny new squad [almost literally] with the best defender/captain in the Championship playing for us. Good luck people.

for 'contractual reasons' link not available

It never is, and it won't be all season. You have to pay for SaintsTV to get a Saints-slanted commentary on the internet. It's exclusive to them.

If you don't want to pay, you have to whore yourself around BBC Radio Wales/West Midlands/Coventry etc etc every other week to get commentary, of course biased to the opposition.

Or use that "matchlive" console thing that people put links up to every week.
